  • I can not withstand the negative pressure anf hold my breath for 42 minutes so let's ignore that to

  • What if he took a ladder down to the exact center then jumped off? Would he just bob about the center, or would he fall in one direction?

  • wouldn't you get stuck in the middle after lots of trips down and up?

  • @XxMineYourOwnCraftxX not if were ignoring air resistance, which would cause you to slow down

  • If Gravity is the curvature of space and time, what dose it do in the middle of the Earth?

  • @apspacking well lets say you manage to get exactly in the center of earth...gravity would probably be pulling you in every single direction

  • @clokedbigman well actualy i have ask this same question and i came with an answer , impossible or there is a paradox because if you jump in the hole there is a holle under your feet so there is no mather under you to create gravity , only the wall can attrack you .. pretty sure you will fall on an angle till you touch a wall or there is some thing else then matter that create gravity on the planet ..

  • @GHOSTTOYS i have no idea what your talking about

  • That's a good question

  • Right before he jumps into the hole, he puts on a pair of Harry Potter quidditch goggles!!!Look them up on Amazon or simply on google images!!I noticed because i own some myself!!!:D

  • wait wait wait why would he keep falling if he passed the center of the earth? momentum? not gravity because gravity pulls things to the center of the earth not down

  • @vivalaryan54 His inertia. Objects naturally want to keep doing what they're doing until an outside force acts. He wouldn't slow until gravity decelerated him at the same rate he was accelerated.

  • Dear PBS: It's "hole," not "whole." Geez.

  • @GetMeThere1 fixed -- thanks!

  • Magma would be shooting out like a guy with premature... you know.

  • I b3t teh p3nguins could get outa dare!

  • haha i have wondered that

  • Neil deGrasse Tyson is teh WIN ^^

  • the core is made out of nikle!

  • What else havent we come to realize yet even with all our Technology, like FFS they are trying to make a blackhole, im sure the whole Hollow earth theroy will take time to come to public knowledge.. and to the Conspiracy theroys, they are some of the ideas back in the past that have come to be common knowledge in our time, as what i stated before, Flat earth, center of the Universe.. lol like come on. use ur heads logic is impressive stuff once u denounce hearsay statements from the unknowns

  • wait wait wait, billions of tonnes of rock and metal above, pressing down in all directions WILL move very quickly into any hollow cavity. zero evidence for the earth being hollow, yes people do your own research but dont get it from idiots and conspiracy theorists loool.

  • First, to test this out take a Beach Ball, fill it with sand, water W/e u like as long as it is natural... let it all lump in the bottom. now make that bal spin equal to the roataion of the planet, what u find happens is all the materials inside now find there way to the outter lining of the beach ball caused by centrificugal force. the same with with each planet is going on, in a sense they are growing,Just think 1500yrs ago we were the center of the Glaxay, 400yrs ago the earth was flat.

  • @KirbSleep that beach ball test take place on earth not in space so the gravity from the planet will act on the result

  • hahaha

  • i just hope they hav donutz at the centr

  • yea but what would happen if the "yoyo efect finally came to a stop? would the center of the earth have 0 gravity and you just flot around

  • that's a pretty nice question, I thought about that question too but still have no idea what would happen if we stop at the centre.

  • you would probably get smashed to pieces by the force of gravity.

  • haha I got an answer for ya..... he said "what if there's no air resistance" right? if there's nothing that slows the you down from the yoyo effect, then you're gonna end up exactly where you started, no matter how many times you flip around.

ya dont feel wind pushing you back = ya keep ya speed. unless there's other forces pushin ya backwards other than gravity which is assumed to be uniform with both goin faster and goin slower.

  • @andrewwalsh626 yes this would happen if air resistance was factored in, and eventually you'd just be chilling there floating around, eating doughnuts, but without air resistance, there would be nothing to slow you from stopping and the yo yo effect would keep on going.

  • I do this every weekend. Mad fun!

  • Exactly what I thought would happen.

  • Yeah i agree with mg03nma. I mean of coruse it would take a logn tiem but after all of the pushing and tugging of the gravity it would cancle its self out untill he cam to a stop at the center.... Althoguht he would get a nasty sun burn before that lol.

  • "sun " burn ? , dont u mean super massive core of the earth heat rash

  • so wait.. without air friction, spinning earth, or burning core.. he would appear on the exact same spot on the other side of the earth assuming the second half of the "fall" is equal distance as the first half?

  • wouldent he lose som of his inertia? så after a few (many)yoyo tripps hed simply just float in the center

  • How would he lose the inertia? He said to discount air friction and the spin of the earth. What are the forces that would cause him to lose inertia?

  • What is the answer to life, the universe, and everything?

  • 42...

  • yeah um... That's getting old...

  • No its not! :|

  • its interesting that most people don't realize that there is no gravity at the center of the earth.

  • Why do you say that? There is gravity. If you were in the center the gravity would be all around you.

  • What I meant is that there is a "micro-gravity" environment at the center of the earth.

At the center of the earth you are pulled equally in all directions. The sum of the effect would be like being weightless.

  • @inthefade yeah no gravity, but tell me about the pressure in there

  • this makes me happy. :)

  • neil tyson's the best!

  • i love neil degrasse tyson. he made me interested in space.

  • Great info for kids and adults.

  • wow, I didn't know that!

  • Thats amazing.... NOVA scienceNOW is my favorite show. I cant wait for the new episodes!
