If young people don't vote, it's their own fault that old people are running everything.
That said, I didn't vote in the first election I was able to. Hated both candidates. If I'd had the Internet, I'd've known about third party and independent candidates, and could have voted for one of them.
I do believe that young people don't vote. I don't, because my vote does not count. Statistically, it is impossible for me to have an influence on the outcome of the national election for the president. The electoral college is broken. Say no to voting, and jury duty.
I would like to know why on such a show as American Idol you are given more of a choice in voting for a 'singer' than you are for president? I follow, fairly closely, to the candidates speaches, but quite frankly I wouldn't put these people in charge of taking care of a cactus garden let alone my childrens future.
The only two (of the five I know of) I would vote for would be Edwards or McCain. They are the only two who seem 'human'. The others, sorry to say, sound too much alike. I listen to Obama's speach, I think I'm listening to Hillory's, and vice versa. Oh, and also, why is it every time I turn the channel I'm hearing only Hillory or Obama? Aren't there any others? I still don't get why presidential elections can't be like American Idol, where we are given a legitimate choice.
I'm young, I don't vote. I think its immoral. As an Agorist how can I support coercively institutionalizing my social desires. I don't vote, but its not 'cause I'm young. But I do support what you stand for.
im reading off of cue cards and am getting paid to read these lines in front of me. im a robot and will show you marijuna in my messages to make you think i am cool. i am 40 years old and like to look at young kids on myspace and have an occasional lisp when i talk. i am a politian, vote for me.
im 14, and ive volunteered in the last 3 elections. However, i do agree that politics has lost interest in the future generations. I do agree though that, a person who doesn't vote when they could, has no right to complain about the issues that surround the political landscape today.
Why were you bitterly cynical and why did you change your mind? I too am bitterly cynical and if you can give me a reason why people who see the dividing lines between political parties narrowing, the divide between the rich and poor getting greater (power), then I might vote too.
I voted Libertarian in both Bush elections and I will be voting for Ron Paul in the 2008 election. You have my full support because you defend freedom.
that is one way a government controls people, keeping people demoralized, demoralized people are less likely to fight for change making it easier for a government to control it's people
I've never been very enthusiastic about voting because there weren't any candidates I was all that passionate about. However Ron Paul I'm so passionate about I don't care if it doesn't look like he will win at all. Seeing one more vote for him the better.
The 2006 election was the first election I was eligible to vote. I didn't vote because there was no one worth my vote. Ron Paul is the only person I'd ever vote for from what I've seen.
I never thought it was worthless to vote when I was young. From the time I was eligible to vote till now, I voted in every presidential election. I always voted third party and until 2004, I did so with the intention of voting for someone who didn't stand a chance in winning. (more)
Why did I do that? Was I wasting my vote? Hell no. Ever seen Brewster's Millions? There's a part in the movie where Richard Pryor's character was spending money running for office, but wanted no one to vote for him. His campaign was to vote "None of the above". When I was voting for someone who didn't stand a chance, I was actually casting my vote as "None of the above". (more)
This changed in 2004, where I figured since I was voting like this, I might as well start doing better research and look at third party candidates so that I can have two reasons for voting third party rather than just saying "none of the above". That was the beginning of my libertarian discovery and where I stand now.
Great video. I'm afraid that the youth doesn't fully understand the impact some of these issues are going to have on their life. I hope they get educated and get involved... if anything they should do it for their future.
I fully intend on voting for Ron Paul.I believe that one person gets exatly one vote. I also believe that the reason there has been so much voter apathy is that there are rarely any good candidates. I think Ron Paul might change things in 2008. I am also going to look into your candidacy.
Great Vid Ted and from the comments it looks like your right, if we would of had the tools that youth has today, to expose the truth, things might of been different,Today the Kids are smart and if they would just stand-up and be counted we could all come together and Hopefully make some change, it's time has come we need the Generations help It hasn't been a pleasent trip but we brought you this far so you guys need to take the wheel. Peace

Every time a new and interesting video on youtube is posted, or a great article comes out, I post it to my myspace. There are times where I really don't think anyone is paying attention.
As a 21 year old, I try to talk to my friends about this subject but often times they come out with strange and unique saying that must have been engraved in them as children: "Don't ever vote republican," or "vote only for the party your in," or "don't vote for someone you agree with: you'll get someone you don't," or even worse "don't vote for someone you don't 100% agree with" which obviously will leave you not voting.
on top of that, many people just simply don't care. The irony is how pervasive certain christian ideals go into the populous. I once heard "why try cleaning up the environment? The worlds ending anyways," or "Why does it matter who you vote for. They all suck" or "Why bother voting, by 2012, we'll all be dead anyways." This pessimism is shocking and disheartening. It drives me crazy that people simply accept these lies because it's easier.
But then you look at our society. So many people speak so loudly that it's hard not to hear them and wonder "is it really the end of days?" From an atheistic point of view it's simply ridiculous but many impressionable children begin to believe it when they hear it enough. I wonder a lot if the reason kids don't vote is because parents put into them the idea that having opinions different than the status quo is bad, and perhaps that's the larger issue.
I don't vote cuz I don't want the state to steal from me (through taxes)
as simple as that :)
Peace!

theropingeffect: considering your youtube favorites, I actually would trust YOU to vote for 3 U.S. citizens, although that's illegal and unethical.
