  • A little off topic, okay, and yeah, I listened dutifully to what you say about Haiti, but what I'm really thinking is, "samples from 'Wake Up Everybody', an anthem from my teen years, how cool is that?" Missing Teddy Pendergrass . . .

  • damn jay, seems like the crazies are going around in the usa. cant remember so much bullshit ever being posted on your vids. what happened?

dont want to be all negative: as usual, you are right, and you are able to articulate your opinion in a way that is... well... sublime :D

  • bout fuckin time some one makes a video the rite shit

  • @TheAkashdeepJabandar shut you stupid redneck ass up.go back to fucking your own family or whatever it is you rednecks do.

  • @TheAkashdeepJabandar uhm... you are aware of the race of the person you are accusing of being racist, right? so you're calling him a self-hating racist or what IS your point? I probably shouldnt even dignify your comment with an answer, but... felt like doing it anyway, maybe shine some light on your obvious ignorance...

  • Word to the comment below about the world not standing around and watching, but helping to engineer and enact the poverty that is there right now.

And much Love for the Nation of Heroes comment. PEACE.

And if you ain't got no kind of money: shed a tear, say a prayer and consume less.

    One,

    - Brother Chimaobi

  • i would like to give but i know the government well the illuminati has some suspicious plans all of a sudden caring for haitis?? wtf b4 the earthquake half of america had no clue what a haitis was idk search up on the illuminati and pen ur eyes with the holy spirit

  • The people of all the world must not contribute to colaborationist institutions. The donations must be sent to the peoples organizations and unions, like Batay Ouvriye, that acted against the occupation long before the earthquake. Otherwise, the donations will be diverted by corruption of government or will be used to support politically that government and the occupation regime.

  • The people must know that Haiti is being occupied by military forces of US, and was previsouly occupied by the "peace" forces of MINUSTAH (Brazilian-led occupation since overtrow of the elected presidente J.B.Aristid). The MINUSTAH attacked workers strikes and student protests, and did not any humanitarian aid (as said by gvnmt propaganda in Brazil). The responsibility of the catastrophe lay on the occupation that maintained the poverty, low wages and no democracy at all.

  • Good point, but the world did not just "stand back and watched", the world actively took part in engineering the poverty in the first place by bringing dictators into power and making Haiti sweatshop central.

  • does anyone else think this guys voice sounds a little like obamas?

  • Thank you for mentioning Doctors Without Borders, rather than the obvious American Red Cross. ARC has lost my respect when they billed a family friend of mine for work done in Florida after a hurricane.

  • doesn't france owe haiti $21 billion? i think it's been time to collect...

  • why does France owe them money?

  • Because after the Haitian revolution (which started out as a slave revolt), France sent Haiti a bill for slave reparations- essentially making them pay France back for when they kept them as slaves. Haiti started paying that bill in 1804 and continued to pay it until the "debt" was cleared in 1948.

  • haiti paid france back for reparations ?? what ?

  • @bearberry842 ....if they collect that sum(if it really is that much...if so, please elaborate) The corrupt gov't will just pocket it like they have been doing. That Government needs a regime makeover.....ASAP!

  • I appreciate the message you put out, and am glad you did -- gives me something to throw onto my facebook.

  • I think this is my favorite statement on Haiti. And it's short and to the point. I'm going to share it.

  • you convinced me to make my first donation ever.

  • Much Respect to you putting that historical information in this video. It is always important to inform..And to all the ignorance...KILL THAT NOISE!

  • Well said.

  • @BOINKER1 No, and no. Haiti's not even an island.

  • Wait what? No it's not an island by it self. But it is occupying an island though, so Boinkers second question is actually valid in that aspect...

  • @illdoc1 It's actually half an island. It's a country located in Hispanola neighboring The Dominican Republic in the greater antillies.

  • Didn't those white people enslave and import those black people against their will which is why they were on the island in the first place?

  • Wyclef Jean's org is a scam.

  • @bsnowman Nope. The concerns raised about Wyclef's organization do not justify calling it a scam. Even the primary follow-up on the Smoking Gun documents, at Gawker, make that clear. There is ample evidence and corroboration of the real work Wyclef and his org have done for his home country.

Legitimate questions have been raised about how well they manage their money, and whether they're the most capable of applying donation money quickly & efficiently. But that does not constitute a "scam."

  • But any dissenting comments are blocked?

  • @bsnowman no, only those that are disruptive and/or disrespectful.

  • So I can post comments.

  • Test

  • People are putting so much emphasis on the way that the Haitian government treats its people and everyone else... what about the PEOPLE of the nation that have gone through so much? Don't we have an obligation to help other nations and other people for the sake that they are people, just like us?

  • Good Vid, good thoughts. However there were many freedom fighters before the 18th Century- William Wallace to name but one!

  • Thank you, on behalf of all Haitians, for this video.

  • I've heard that untold millions in donations to Haiti are disappearing into Swiss bank accounts.

  • and who told told you that lie?

  • And I've heard the moon is made of Swiss cheese. Just because someone says something, you're not compelled to believe it. If you've got something like evidence, let's have it.

  • @WoodenSwordL read up of haitian history.. the haitian revolution was a revolution of the entire Haitian people. they are heros.

  • i know you're saying this b/c you don't know Haitian history. So I'll forgive you. But if you know Haitian history you'll realize the Haitian revolution's positive significance to US history and world history.

  • @WoodenSwordL

Because one guy came from there and "did stuff"? Wow, you look really intelligent right now. Go to college. Read some books. Please, for your sake and for everyone else's eyes and ears who have to be victim to your blissful ignorance.

  • DOPE ILLDOC

  • Omg marry me!

  • One word: Exactly.

  • I think that arguing that we should give aid to Haiti because it's a "nation of heroes" actually trivializes things...needing aid in a time of natural disaster is not a matter of merit. They're a nation of humans, just like us, and that's enough. In situations like this, entire countries should not be described as if they are individual people-- they are populations of people, such as we have all over the world, and they have the same needs as everybody else. Politics be damned.

  • You're preaching to the choir here. :)

I think the fundamental human tragedy, and the fundamental responsibility that comes with it, are self-evident. I said so in the vid right up front.

But I also think it is a fundamental disrespect to the people of Haiti that the full story of who they are, and our relationship with them, usually doesn't get told. This matters too.

  • You are so on point. Love it.

  • Also, I said nothing in the vid about aid being based on merit, nor said Haiti deserves help more or less than anyone else.

Getting to know the people you are helping, and the ways you are connected, does nothing to contradict the principle that all suffering human beings deserve aid.

Maintaining equal respect for all humans does not require treating them each like faceless interchangeable automatons, and holding back from getting to know them or feeling a deeper connection to them.

  • Oh, I know. It just makes me uneasy to think it might be necessary for some people to be told more than "These people are suffering" in order to be convinced that they should be helped. Like it's a case that needs to be argued.

  • @illdoc1 WORD!

  • Thank you.

  • What you said!!!

  • Great video, I posted it in my blog Carlos in DC. Thanks for recording this powerful message!

  • That was better than all the news networks combined!!!!!

  • Damn you're good. Amen.

  • THANK YOU!!

  • Fuck yeah, Partners in Health.

  • Will you be my favorite life engaging College professor?!?

  • Man you are awesome.....amen

  • YES.

  • The world did not stand by and watch for decades. The US has intervened in Haiti for decades. There was a coup of the elected leader in 1991, and there's evidence the US was involved.

  • What about Haitians being turned away at sea while Cubans have been taken in even both groups faced shitty circumstances in their countries?

  • and this is why I love you!

  • good vid

  • Thanks for recognizing haiti for it's history

  • Thanks so much for the video! Its great to hear someone talk about Haiti's history and why the country has needed help beyond earthquake relief!

  • Illdoc, you're a great guy and a terrific motivator, I love ya man.

    Jbirdy

P.S. We're packing food and clothing tonight.

  • I needed this video to help me with something and you did! THANKS!

  • You said a lot. I pray the vultures are kept at bay.

  • nice work as always, Jay, but I also want to see your take on the extreme corruption that has plagued Haiti for decades. one only has to look at it's next door neighbor (Dominican Republic) to see what a difference a good governorship can make.

  • What? Really? Does the name Batista mean anything to you?

  • Hopefully, somebody will catch onto the idea that Helecopters and other VTOL craft don't really need an airport, and cut out "the airport's not adequate enough excuse"

  • Well said as always!

  • nicely said. You're off my "you irk me" list, lol...

  • OMG, this gave me the chills. You are so right. A friend said: "Between God and the Americans the Haitians finally have a chance to have their country re-built in such a way that honors who they are as a people & takes into account what they have been through historically.

  • I love how it didn't take ages of poverty but an abrupt disaster costing hundreds of lives to move folks.

Like 9-11 & that short period afterwards when Americans kept flags on their lawns & vehicles. Yea, we stopped caring after a couple of months.

Perhaps if disasters were regular, perhaps daily, folks would cease being phony & own initiative.

  • no, people would just get used to disasters and they would loose their impact

  • Good point.

  • you forgot, watch out for scam artists and other bullshit

  • gotcha.........when there's disaster.....there's opportunity.

what better way to infiltrate then when people are in need.

  • Great message especially the long term implications of the country's history and heritage ...stay blessed !!..............and prayers to the people of Haiti !!

  • I concur!

  • luv the post

  • Great post Doc! Haiti was the first to say no to Imperial Colonialism, tyranny and slavery. That piece of shit Pat Roberts said they made a pact with the Devil. If anyone is close to Satan it is his Charlatan Ass. I sent a donation by text. I encourage everyone to donate in some way even if it is just a simple prayer.

  • Very nicely done.

  • Well done man!

  • thanks

  • Nice touch with the flipped "Wake Up Everybody" sample.

  • Damn right man. Glad you made a video on this. The situation there has been desperate for decades, but this has really tipped it over.

  • yup! enough said!

  • Get up. Get out. And give something.

Thats about the scope the decent human thing to do. 5*

  • On point.

  • Donated 2hrs wages.

  • On point as always.
