lol.... had to mod to play heel/toe better. Pathetic. I use Heel/toe on short boards with basketball shoes on. If you can do it properly, you can do it in any scenario. You're only cheating yourself. The way you re-positioned your foot :48 is the way to do it on short boards, bouncing your heel off the floor or butt of the pedal. Not hard at all.
people you do not need long boards. It should not be called "heel toe". That is what confuses people. It should be called "ball of foot and toe" technique. too many people feel you need to slam your heel and then your toe. There are many "proper" videos on you tube that will show you how to do it without a long footboard. Even with big feet. I used to think the same thing. Now I can play heel toe on any pedal. I am not trying to sound like a "know it all". Check it out.
@DSDrummer15 I give you props if you can do it in shoes at all. I have to have them off. True, it can be done on any pedal. But the true "heel on pedal" method can put the chain in between you toes if you have large feet.
@chrisfairbanks it came easy for me but i have been playing drums for 10 years and i also play in converse pro drumming hi tops special ordered for me i suggest removing the mod until you build up the ability to play in shoes also try a rolling your feet whilst walking making sure to lift your toes as high as you can to build muscle for speed and control but keep practicing and you'll get better
@severedties24 i didn't like the tiny hard to reach wing nuts and all the different size allen wrenches. i think i could have put up with it if not for the $600 pricetag, though.
So, I find it interesting that heel-toe technique, when slid back on the pedal, doesn't really involve the heel, but is more about the toes, and that area right behind where your toes meet your foot.
@iRhDhLh863 adding a piece of steel to the footboard, kinda converts a normal pedal to a longboard. for people with bigger feet or for people who are learning the heel toe method it makes it heaps easier to learn the motion if you have a longer footboard
you know you aren't actually supposed to hit it with your heel lol, its only named that because it has a rocking motion that looks like you are hitting it with your heel then toe. its the motion that gets it to hit the drum head, not that you actually hit it with your heel.
I'm 19 and I'm really thinking about playing drums cause my bro plays some good guitar and that i love playing drums on guitar hero on expert plus. but seeing this makes me worry since i want to play some fast double bass music, but of course ill have to work up to it.
dude ive just started drums with my band. and im like a beginer cos i used to play guitar for em but our drummer was terrible at commitement....anyway long story. short part is i need to know how to double bass. any tips on how to do it or how to set up cos i can do it with my ankles but not for very long only quick bursts
@samgallagher15 make sure ur sitting up straight and start slow. just do it at whatever speed u can do it continually at, and keep goin. then speed it up slowly.
the heal-toe is very easy!! but my probleme it's that i have a shorter pedal!! i can put the back of my foot on the extreme of pedal!!! what can i do??
drop your feet randomly on the pedal, slightly change the angel to the heels, when u hit the bassdrum u quickly put preasure on your toes. i hope this explaination is right:p
y6eah i can see whare your cumin from weith the long bords but tbh i find i can do it just ass well and just as fast .. well faster than that but yeah even with my heal on the floor.. but hey i gess thats no longer heal toe more like um arch toe.. haha
It's down to personal preference. Alot of drummers I know prefer to wear shoes with very thin soles. I prefer to drum completely bare foot ever since I started. Most people wear shoes, but there are alot who choose to go bare foot. The only thing I'd say it wearing only socks is very hard due to lack of grip. Bare foot gets more feel, but is probably hard to deliver power too if you're not used too it. Where as me wearing shoes makes me feel over dressed and decreases my endurance/technique etc.
Even though there are two bass things on that one pedal, do u still have to use both feet? And if not then what's that little axel connecting the high top and the bass?
I have a mapex m birch right now , So i got the p550a single pedal , and im able to do the heel toe on that , any idea if i would be able to do it on the cobras ? Shoe size - 9.5.
I need some good suggestion :) I wanna buy a double bass pedal , Should i buy Mapex P580A 2009 series or the Junior Iron Cobra ? Or should i just wait for a long time and buy the iron cobras ? Need some good suggestions :)
With iron cobra you cant do heel toe, the pedal is just small it's like a shoe size "10" (u.s) to do what hes doing you need "Long Board" pedals. Most commonly the Axis pedals that are just awesome!! but you can buy the cobras and mod it that way like a long board :P
yes you can do a heel-toe type of technique on the Iron Cobra. you just have to find out where on the pedal to do it, and of how to do it. I upload a video within the next week of how to do this.
@guitar77809 im not sure but it sounds like an electrical kit because all cymbal and snare sounds sound the same and he might use an acoustic bass drum perphaps with them
it's not an electric kit. crumby microphone plus the bass drum i used was the pearl rhythm traveler. it's tiny and low end. i figured the hits would be clearer on the recording.
heel toe is achievable with any pedal, as long as you get the technique right. its also about the settings on your pedal. iwas using a gibraltar pedal with a really light beater and really tight spring, i recently got a dw 9000 double pedal and it has a heavier and powerful-er strike. but if you sert your pedal up tight, you can do it.
on the DW 9000's, with the springs being on the inside, it means you have to have you foot lower down the pedal and i can still do heel-toe very easily
Well done but I'd suggest that you attach the pedal closer to the head if you can so that the beaters dont go so far over the axis line and your motion will become smaller and therefore faster, more responsive.
Such a cool idea, even if I do think longboards are overrated... that after having gone and paid for one... they do make heel-toe easier though... even though I stopped using heel-toe... I'm good at wasting money : )
easier with small me thinks... i'm size 12 and its practically impossible with the pedals i have......thats why that nippy invention he has is so good....
well I'm the same size as you dude and able to do it. Instead of putting you heel down when you play heel-toe, keep your heel up. I hope you understand wat i mean.

hey dude, id mod it a differnt way then this guy, hes on the right track but there are a few things..im making my own on a pearl 80 dallar piece of crap and it made it a shit load easier for me (who also has size 12 feet) so yah it be workin fine
