  • you made my day... hahaha i love my car :)

  • this guy is dumb! All of us real rotary owners know that switching from twi s to single improves the power and reliability dramatically. especially when you know how to take care of it, but ask any one if you have any car with some real power, it's very important to join FORUMS. im going to end this by sayi g learn about somethi g before talki g out of yiur theory as if it were important advice. and its more than pride withall the negative feedback this vid got.

  • @Twanhill125 lol. I have a GT35R Ball Bearing Ceramic Coated single turbo. watch my other videos. This one was made for fun.

  • V8 swap = problem solved

  • its as simple as DOING YOUR RESEARCH and understanding that rotarys are a totally different animal and turbochargers also need special attention (hoses, lines, etc.)

if you can understand rx-7s and the responsibility that comes along with them youll have an extremely pleasurable driving/owning experience

  • this is total bullshit, the rx7 is a legend n a beast for 19 years strong n still runnin hard , im gonna thumps down this video n throw it out my window doin 280 on the highway in my rx7

  • @codeblak4 lol it was meant to be sarcastic. I beat the hell out of this car and she takes it. People worry that its sensitive to destruction.

  • I daily drove my first FD for 6 yrs and put 196,xxx miles on it. I beat the shit out of it daily, with at least 10 8500rpm runs everyday. It was a tank. it was only a 109mph car, but she was awesome.

I always warmed it up fully before boosting.

    I always used 93 octane.

I always coasted to a stop to let the turbos cool down.

i always changed the oil at 2500miles.

    Things that broke:

    Power plant frame (in half)

A small c-clip controlling the flapper between turbos.

Window switch and a door handle

  • They wear out very quick and they're not as efficient as piston engine. They're trash!

  • I love how you're so candid and can laugh at yourself! I often see rx-7 break during track days; All cars have disadvantage and advantages.

  • lol I'm still interested in this car, regardless..

  • man I have m2 cold box intake, greddy intercooler, greddy bov, greddy elbow, 1300cc secondary injectors, 99 spec twin turbos and y pipe, Bönez Stainless DP, RP Competition Fuel Pump, PFC(stock ecu maps), and on 1 rebuild at 80k now... I can boost all day everyday in any weather and have no problems...

  • If R.E. AMEMIYA seen this vid, he would be clowning you! Seriously

  • After watching this video, I can tell that the reliability of this car lies in the driver. I can see why you can't get this car to be reliable.

  • @jts4k lol. we agree on something. Im always experimenting.

You cant disagree that this car requires more maintenance than a normal car. ;-)

  • @emerciv~ do u know that the wankel has no tolerance for detonation?.... unlike a piston engine.

U probably got some detonation and thats why it broke.

  • my fd runs everyday and is 16 years old.. mustn't be reliable..

  • @uunleashedd i just took my baby out last week. ive owned a REPU, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gen RX-7. I blew my first engine because the previous owner had the wastegate welded shut (lol) overboost in cold weather. I blew my second one when i got it home from the mazda dealer (first mistake) and there was oil in my radiator fluid.

  • Hey rx7-8 owners this is an age old question but what type/ brand of oil should you use on rotarys.

  • @Longstuff 5w-20 is fine..

  • Least reliable?? WTF??

I drove mine daily for 2 years and 60,000kms Hard driving, full launches and redlines in every gear, you are saying the wrong things to encourage ownership!! BTW i build and maintain rotaries so do know what im saying!!

Im now going gt35 single with 1680 secondaries!

  • This guy makes it sound like its a case of poor engineering. The FD is actually a reliable car, most of the time people don't know what their talking about or modified it incorrectly. FDs are complex, sensitive, vulnerable, etc. and requires a lot of patience. I think people get this misconception because of the impatient and ignorant people who encounters a problem then gets frustrated and blame it on the rotary ,following with a comment like "rotarys' are unreliable, swap a *insert engine* in"

  • yeahh 7 :D

  • I like what your doing here but its all wrong. You can actually make it very reliable by adding more hp. Such as doing everything to keep it from running hot so aftermarket intercoolers and all that jazz. Really the best information everything you said just look it up on the forums. Some of the best rotar techs are probably on those sites

  • great videos man, i have a question about buying an rx-7 however, I've been looking at RX-7s for about a month now and i really can't figure out what year to get. I really like the '95 model but that is well out of my price range, i want a good reliable RX-7 that i can tune or tweak as well as drive to school and not worry to much about breaking down, i guess my real question would be, out of all the years of RX-7s which year would you say is right for me?

  • I'm assuming he is being sarcastic. If not he should probably quit life because I'd say his FD will stop running since he was ragging on it so much. I still don't understand why people say that rotary engines are unreliable.

  • RX7 CARS ARE FOR ===REAL=== MAN not pussies with there vtec that can look out the window and bam another car with there same engine RX7 ARE NOT HONDAS AND ARE NOT MADE FOR PUSSIES LIKE THIS GUY OR FOR GIRLS 1.3 engine won't take the same abuse as a 5.7 chevy ..... duh you dumb fuckers with weak cars that won't break cause there not even strong enough to break themself!

  • @143travieso funny because i have a 1981 mazda rx7 and my girlfriend loves it, theres a kid in my autoshop class with a 86 camaro(its a V6) and after he got the car no girl will go close to him because his car is constantly breaking down, im still fixing up my car but is one of the best cars ive ever owned, and i use to drive a 2003 dodge dakota with a v8

  • Without all the details of making it more reliable or easier to work on: after market rad, met AST, and go single turbo

  • @dnuofntsol so true. I ended up doing most of those :-) II should do another video on how to make the car reliable.

  • The car is 15years old and turbo charged too , if anything breaks is bount to happen so you think ,but im still waitting for the car to break is been more reliavable then my other 15year old cars that i have non turbo charged huhhhh!!!!!

But yeah do your maintance get all the reliavable parts for cooling and get the best tuning even if cost alot at the long run you wont regret it check my fd3s just painted last year red/pearl at youtube channel baho30 or djreact18

  • man, I've been saving up some money to mabe some day be able to buy and legaly street drive an RX-7 FD. Its been a big dreem of mine a long time, and strangely enough this video did not chane my mind, even dough I know I wil some day be tearing my head of for actualy buying one :P .

Sometimes, when I see anRx7 passing I just can't help having an orgasm....

  • I totally agree with you. thats the sort of passion thats needed to own this car. I love it so much, this video was a little funny. I just want to make people aware that its not like owning a sedan. but hit me up if you buy one. Its a dream to drive. I still orgasm driving it.

  • emerciv, you rock! this is one of the best and realistic videos about the rx-7's! We love rx-7's Love from Greece and keep it real!

  • Im going to be doing a video write up of Water/Methanol injection to balance the controversy of this little vid :-)

  • People who owns and say that Rx-7 is unreliable = CAR DESTROYERS LOL! Meaning you have to take GOOD care of your car not by abusing it.

  • @heromiami305 dude i bought one today no bull had it for 3 hours and the act race clutch broke or the throwout bearing went out so in less than 24 hours of owning it i will have to pull the tranny and hope it is something with the clutch and not the tranny it has a ton of mods 341 hp hks greedy parts etc.but dame i had it for a 3 hour drive from where i bought it and it broke i want to cry i have no money for a tranny!! please pray for me lol...

  • what people should do to get prepared for owning this demon are the following:

    -Research

    -Research

    -More Research

    -Learn the 13B Rotary

going single and getting an auxiliary injection kit to go with it as well as a proper tune should be something any owner should consider. kill the heat. kill the threat of detonation. the rotary engine is actually alot tougher than most make it out to be so long as the owner knows how to maintain and drive one!

  • You got it. Im working on a Blow off valve video first. Then ill do one on maintenance of the car.

  • Yeah its good to see that there are so many rotor lovers out there!

Cheers from an RX8 owner from Greece!

  • 1)What about the quick oil changes?

2)What about the warm up before you boost it and wot? etc. etc.

Bro please make another video and speak with more respect for the RX7 is a legend...

  • lol! retard, probably yes. Ive caused alot of the problems with my car. Agreed on the engine heat issue.

The only thing i disagree with: this video was meant for beginners. Installing a cooler running single turbo without a cast iron 22lbs of manifold is not in their ability, or price range.

There is alot you can MODIFY to make the car reliable. But most newbies (myself included) dont focus on that, do they?

  • this guy is a fucking retard. the issue with the FD is engine heat. increase oil and water cooling. get the big heat soaking twin turbo setup off of there and it will run beautifully for year.

sell your fd you fucking homo, go buy a civic

  • thank you for this video, you are a star. Here in ireland they go cheap as 5k, and i was thinking of getting one, but now i know its not car for me. Its not bad car, just not for me. I do have mx5 now, and ill stick to it. thx!

  • Yes I'm being tongue in cheek. I love my car. The most of my problems originated from my own stupidity. That said, this car is not very forgiving. I think everyone agrees on that. :-D

  • This video is meant to be sarcastic right...?

For a 15+ year old car my FD is very reliable, and I have it pretty well modded (pushing 380 rwhp). I drove round trip from FL to NY this year, and went on at least 2 "cruises" (read: lots of fast aggressive driving) and the biggest problem I had was an oem clutch line failure (easy fix).

My car runs great, makes a lot of power, and almost never lets me down (no more often than any other 15+ year old car would!)

  • haha i like this vid but im still going to buy one but maybe this guy should get a new tuner sounds like he has been thru alot of rebuilds

  • And whats makes so many people hate the rotary engines is that when they are putting on a big turbo and trying too squeeze out as many HP as possible, and then they break down. The engine have too be tuned like it's a rotary, not as a piston. And I think thats the whole reason too all this unreliability talk =)

  • Well, I understand what you mean. Buuuut, I can't decide if I'am agree with you or not. I mean that if you just treat your car the way it's sould be treated, then the rotary engines are just as reliable as a regularly piston engines. But I can agree that they are abit more vulnerable.
