The art work -is- called Anime, which is pretty much the common term for japanese styled animation. If you were to refer to it in comic format, you might call it Manga, or Manga styled.

It is TECHNICALLY more animelike than the Mario games usually are, but you're right in that it's not the super stylized shiny eyed anime people are used to.

I like the way it's drawn too. It's like half anime half western-cartoony. Wish Nintendo would make more games in this style. Whoever draws it is leet.

Dude, Fawful is the only true 'Idol' of the Mario and Luigi series, by that I mean he's the only non-staple character to show up in all three games as I am aware. (hell, he's a major plot point in 2 of them)
