Good stuff! You're thinking about things apart from (or as well as) OMFG WOMEN HAVING BODILY FUNCTIONS!
In defense of the editor(s), they had to deal with both a great script (yay Oscar nom!) and incredible improvisation, so cutting it down and into a story-like shape must have been gut-wrenching and crazy difficult. Still, I agree. They should've hired Lisa Lassek or someone.
@Ttoby89 hey thanks man. improv can be hard to edit so i get that it wasn't as easy to do as most movies, but it was still the weakest bit of the film. that said, as a whole it's completely awesome, so that's not a problem- definitely not the worst editing, even this year! consider subscribing to hear more of my insane views
I stumbled upon you cos (almost more than the film) I've been loving the extras, bloopers, random promotional cast interviews, etc. I hadn't been aware of Kristen Wiig, and now I need her EVERYTHING. Thus I've seen what I'm sure is a tenth of the hilarity the cast improvised that didn't make it. So I don't know whether to love or hate the editor. Mostly I'm pissed off at the trailers that showed stuff that didn't eventually make it.
@Ttoby89 ah i hate it when trailers show cut content! The Box, really good movie but heavily flawed, had some cut scenes you can see a bit of in the trailer that just looked like they'd really address those flaws- so frustrating. Sometimes though it's hard to judge what would have looked better- the Anchorman movie they made out of leftover footage was funny, but not as AWESOME as Anchorman, which goes to show the how much a good edit can change the movie.
