I was surprised to see the mid-70's Rankin-Bass logo at the end of the credits. I thought Rankin-Bass started using the newer logo starting in 1983.

No, their two 1983 productions (this and The Wind in the Willows, which didn't air until 1987) used an updated version of the classic theme. The 80s R-B logo debuted in 1985.
