Aound this time OSU campus was poppin on the weekends. it would be like spring break from 5th on the south to lane on the north. Gentrification screwed that up....although the smell of rotten dish rags and barf got a bit old too.
This is great I wish someone had a time capsule of 161 morse and cleveland ave, there was a restaraunt with a big cowboy out front when I was a kid does anyone remember this place
Thanks for sharing this! Did some guerilla-theater in that McDonald's in the early '80's, heard poetry and drank beers at Larry's Bar, concerts at the Agora, bought books at Long's and SBX, there were record shops everywhere, I saw Talking Heads at Mershon on Halloween, and the very brief glimpse of of Trade Winds was really wonderful. In the ten blocks of storefronts across from OSU was a wonderful, creative spirit. Wonder if anyone can find that in that big Barnes and Noble OSU built?
Thanks for this video of campus, I turned 21 the day after you shot this and came to know the area well. I have a video of the same area I shot in 1988 with perhaps a better camcorder (it wasn't mine) that you might like to watch: /watch?v=wB2Z08za1vI
baker hall was where i ate when i actually ate in the dorms. i lived in smith hall. and when I was in school (graduated early '98) that pancake house was a oriental food market. i remember when papa joe's burned down.
I was trying to see during one part of the video where the old Mean Mr. Mustard's bar and thought I saw Papa Joe's bar that burned down in the mid 1990's -- can't believe all that is gone : now :( My friends and I used to hang out at all of these places around 1991-1993, ahhh memories! Thanks for sharing!
I was born at Mount Carmel West seven days before you shot this video. It's really neat to see how things have changed, and how some things stayed the same.
Wow, sure glad you took this trip. My family moved to 138 Chittenden Ave in 1942. I was born in 1956. I attended Indianola Elementary and Indianola Junior High. I remember driving down high street, heading for the ice cream parlor, as yellow pot a dot bikini played on WCOL. I remember the BBF food o rama too!
Wow, this is great stuff. Not sure what TheUsuallSuspect is talking about, the south campus area is COMPLETELY different now. I currently live on 8th and was hoping you'd guys go down towards High where I live so I could see my apartment. Also, I have had tons of classes in Derby Hall (geography major), it would have been great to see what it looked like back in 1985. Thanks for posting this fine piece of video documentation of Columbus and Ohio State history.
Did you shoot any footage of the Pontifical College Josiphinum. It is a catholic Seminary that I attended. I did not become a priest though. i now attend the college of Charleston.

Love the video! Attended OSU from 1975-1979 and also lived on North Campus for a couple of years after that.
Even in 1985 the scenery has changed but still remember the many nights spent at The Char Bar!

Where on 8th do you live? My first year down there I lived at Holiday House apartments, corner of 8th and Neil Ave.
