I fell in love with a Susie Darlin' at the Heartland Nursing Home and she did me the same way. I had her listen to the Tommy Roe version and it made her cry.
Robin Luke's original was referred to as being in a "Chalypso" style on American Bandstand. Tommy Roe's version is more of a ballad. They both are GREAT! I play them both, for different moods, for the same mood, for being lifted into a dream any way I want. Both great great great.
thank you your great for what you are doing keep or history alive they dont under stand the old enflunceced the the new and each came thrue to be how they are and thates magic with out the past the futer will become stail stagnet we live thure te rethem the beat the mellodey i now bad spelling 42 should now better upes 43 just had a birth day tick tock time keepes marching foer all but thankes to you it lives on thankes again peace out
@68enxy Yeah I know the Robin Luke version the most, but I know I heard this one somewhere too lol! I listen to oldies all the time so I might of came acrossed it somewhere down the line!
All music is derivative, the same as any other language. One may as well disdain a person who uses a popular idiom of speech, as a singer who emulates a musical phrase such as the vocal "hitch" made popular by Buddy Holly. The real issue is: does the singer perform it well?
Tommy Roe carried it off beautifully, and I like this cover of "Susie Darlin'" very much. It's a tribute to both Robin Luke's original song and Buddy Holly's style.
First the "rubbish," remark, now this....inform Ms.B that my cousin is a Harvard grad and a psychiatrist...she does perform therapy via telephone...trying to breathe...it's not working...
Nice version of a great old tune. tommy Roe is unique. So was Robin Luke

My favorite version of this song. Tommy Roe is underrated - a subtle, evocative singer who brings all the longing in this song to life.

@ivycompton a soft version in the style of Hyland's 'Ginnie Come Lately'

P.S. That's what Jagger really meant when he said Holly was the most original (white) artist.
heyzog 2 years ago
Just a bunch of cheap Buddy Holly rip offs just like the Beatles. Only the black artists were ripped off more than Holly was.

maybe the record company told Tommy he had to record this song, nah they never demanded anything of the singers who am I trying to kid?

Just as well you don't know that Mrs Brush mentioned yesterday she prefers Susan Maughan's singing to Helen's.....
now breathe deeply....deeply..... Although she conceeds that Helen's songs are the better tunes, especially TALLLLLLLLL Young Stranger.
