  • Nice version of a great old tune. tommy Roe is unique. So was Robin Luke

  • My favorite version of this song. Tommy Roe is underrated - a subtle, evocative singer who brings all the longing in this song to life.

  • @ivycompton a soft version in the style of Hyland's 'Ginnie Come Lately'

  • Straight in and no kissin....

  • a nice rendition, but not as good as the robin luke. thanks, however for the chance to compare them.

  • I fell in love with a Susie Darlin' at the Heartland Nursing Home and she did me the same way. I had her listen to the Tommy Roe version and it made her cry.

  • @waterqueen1000 a delicate, melancholic song...

  • Robin Luke's original was referred to as being in a "Chalypso" style on American Bandstand. Tommy Roe's version is more of a ballad. They both are GREAT! I play them both, for different moods, for the same mood, for being lifted into a dream any way I want. Both great great great.

  • As a Tommy Roe fan, I love this! However, have to agree Robin Luke is best! Thanks for sharing this!! Cheri/CCF

  • nice easy take on the robin luke song

  • not bad but it's not as good as the original

  • Not bad but my vote goes to Robin Luke

  • tommy roe well Heck yeah!

  • Thanks for the kind worxds, and thanks for watching my videos. Happy birthday!

  • I think I heard this version somewhere but I can't think where from! I love it though! Thanks for posting!

  • Robin Luke had the bigger hit with this song 4 years earlier.

  • @68enxy Yeah I know the Robin Luke version the most, but I know I heard this one somewhere too lol! I listen to oldies all the time so I might of came acrossed it somewhere down the line!

  • A lovely, lilting version of this sweet tune. Tommy Roe's an underrated singer. Very persuasive - a heavenly voice. Thanks for posting.

  • Thanks for nice description. Very sweet, soft vocals.

  • All music is derivative, the same as any other language. One may as well disdain a person who uses a popular idiom of speech, as a singer who emulates a musical phrase such as the vocal "hitch" made popular by Buddy Holly. The real issue is: does the singer perform it well?

Tommy Roe carried it off beautifully, and I like this cover of "Susie Darlin'" very much. It's a tribute to both Robin Luke's original song and Buddy Holly's style.

Good recording, thanks for posting it.

  • My pleasure, and thanks for the interesting comment.

  • I LOVE Tommy's version of this song! I almost feel like I'm listening to Buddy Holly!!!!! Thanks to Brian for sharing and to Basil for posting it!

  • Thanks again Brian & Angel.

  • sbb i have a 45 of diane from manchester square.thats the only place i've ever seen it.good tune/rocker.

  • hi ssb, have you heard "Diane from manchester square"?i thought it may have a special significance since your from the UK.

  • Haven't heard of that one before, I'll look out for it.

  • this sounds like the intro to some of brian highlands tunes(ginny come lately)

  • It does!

  • P.S. That's what Jagger really meant when he said Holly was the most original (white) artist.

  • Just a bunch of cheap Buddy Holly rip offs just like the Beatles. Only the black artists were ripped off more than Holly was.

  • maybe the record company told Tommy he had to record this song, nah they never demanded anything of the singers who am I trying to kid?

  • Boy those Buddy Holley roots run so deep..Ya think?

  • sorry I am an Elvis fan....bland just does not cut it....

  • Robin Luke gets my vote.

    this one lacks energy....

    makes me fall asleep

    =louis

  • I prefer this version to Robin Luke, although I like Robin Luke too

  • Why did he even bother after hearing Robin Luke. What a whast of time.

  • I really like the clarity of Tommy's ennunciation. This is quite remarkable. Thanks for the upload! 10+ stars!

  • Me too, kind of a soft southern drawl.

  • meglio la versione di robin luke!!!!

  • Both versions are good, each one in their style.

  • Thought he was going to break into Ginny Come Lately with the opening bars ...

  • not a bad cover of Robin Luke the original dot 45 version from 1958 is still the best....

  • See? You have THE fans...Basil.....

Now about that Andrews Sisters doctumentary.....ahem.....

I love this version.....he makes it seem so effortless.....Thanks for posting.....

  • Still only seen the first 2-14mins, I'm going to catch the next showing tomorrow.

    Poised...

  • Patty is poised to fly over and sort out those little Brushes!!!

    ;)

  • Just as well you don't know that Mrs Brush mentioned yesterday she prefers Susan Maughan's singing to Helen's.....

now breathe deeply....deeply..... Although she conceeds that Helen's songs are the better tunes, especially TALLLLLLLLL Young Stranger.

  • First the "rubbish," remark, now this....inform Ms.B that my cousin is a Harvard grad and a psychiatrist...she does perform therapy via telephone...trying to breathe...it's not working...

    America's Most Wanted...... ;O

  • Basil you sure can pick'em. I bet your collection is pretty much the same as mine. Was the original Robin Luke?

  • Thanks for the compliment. Certainly Robin Luke was a few years before this version.

  • Glad you liked it.

  • Thanks for a fantastic walk down memory lane with this great song. 5*****.
