Being as there is the concept of infinity, a concept of infinite infinities is also valid. Limiting oneself to ten dimensions is akin to being a flatlander. We are still so basic in our understanding of the higher self or higher energy as it were. Like the experiment where a solved crossword puzzle becomes easier to those doing it the first time, we are building this knowledge upon our selves. a very simple question from a lay person.

at 0.24 we hear 'a first dimensional object has length only', but this is impossible. because to tell the difference between the line and anything else, the line needs a width no matter its width is visible for human eyes or not. except for the line represents nothing but an 'imaginary idea that indicates a position in a (geometrical) system, as it said in 0.08. am i wrong?

@fleetwoodmac1982 It represents the imaginary idea of a line. The "imaginary point" has no size, no width, no length; it's just a coordinate, a location. The "imaginary line" is a theoretical connection spanning two such locations; it itself has no width, no weight. We wouldn't be able to "see" it; the two-dimensional representations of points as circles and lines as very-thin rectangles are visible abstractions for our benefit.

The problem with all this is that trying to rationalize the true nature of higher dimensions is as impossible for 3-dimensional beings as it is for Flatlanders to understand the nature of dimensions higher than their 2 dimensions.

Assigning dimensionality to, for example, bifurcations (choices) along the timeline is simply an arbitary device - and should be presented as such.

Ultimately, such conjecture is merely (and necessarily) a stab in the dark as to the nature of higher dimensions.

Well, the other 7 dimensions (according to the most recent, legitimate theory of Strings--M-Theory), excluding the 4 that we experience (Length, width, height, and 1 dimension of time) are theorized to be infinitesimally small! The dimensions are predicted to be curved and so I don't think that all of Rob's logic is correct. Besides, his examples are completely useless as they are 100% impractical because we have yet to test predictions that exceed the known dimensions.

Rather than trying to fruitlessly rationlise higher dimensions using arbitary criteria as Rob does, it is more useful and constructive to treat them simply as mathematical constructs.

I use the analogy of a stage. If we are sitting in the audience, we know there is a flat curtain in the back of the stage, and at either end, is a curtain panel. As the actor enters/exits stage, he passes between a panel, and the back curtain. Depending upon our view, an optical illusion takes place. All the curtains appear to be a single, solid curtain, and the actor appears to us to be popping in and out of the higher dimensions, in the middle of what appears to be a solid curtain.

Although I know the ant on a newspaper thing is only an analogy it seems to present a problem to me and a massive hole in the entire theory:

The ant on the newspaper is not a flatlander and the newspaper isn't entirely flat either. This much is obvious. But you can't talk about folding dimensions through other dimensions on the premise that we are already folding 2dimensional objects through the third dimension. Because we have never done this - absolutely everything in our world has depth.
