Tattoo may be more of a Dave solo song but this could easily have been a 3rd song of The Best Of Volume 1, and Stay Frosty could be shoehorned into Diver Down and not sound out of place. It might not be a VH1 or 1984 level song, but I;m just grateful to hear THAT sound again, and that vocal/guitar combination. Dave's freeform lyrics and random noises just suit the way Eddie plays far more than Sammy. With Sammy, everything sounded over produced and stilted. This is fun!

@TheHeetmizer Well, i guess it is all a matter of opinion, i don't know about you, but i've been listening to these guys since i was 11 when VH 1 came out....never stopped been true to them all these years, and when i hear this stuff i love it...i don't over think it, it moves me or it doesn't and this stuff is doing just that. Opinions will differ and time will tell how well it does or doesn't do....all i know is that i'm in!!

They are my #1 favorite band of all time, I liked the Sammy stuff too, but I prefer the classic Dave! I don't like the ego's, but if the music is good enough it transcends all! I saw em in 08', they were great, but I expected em to pick up right where 1984 left off, but newsflash to me, those were kids in their mid-late 20's.

@TheHeetmizer I dunno. Tattoo may be more of a Dave solo song but this could easily have been a 3rd song of The Best Of Volume 1, and Stay Frosty could be shoehorned into Diver Down and not sound out of place. It might not be a VH1 or 1984 level song, but I;m just grateful to hear THAT sound again, and that vocal/guitar combination. Dave's freeform lyrics and random noises just suit the way Eddie plays far more than Sammy. With Sammy, everything sounded over produced and stilted. This is fun!

I love em enough to play the CD 100 times before my final verdict but I guess in my older age, I've come to expect more. I don't like words over a previously released song like ripley, but that's their perogative if they cant come up with anything better, God knows they've had time to write the 5 or 6 good Roth albums that us true van halen fans feel they owe us!

@TheHeetmizer They wrote and played "Right Now" back in '85 on a movie sound track. Eddie is alway ripping off himself. Try to look past all the other garbage. This and "stay frosty" are actually starting to make me like 'Tattoo" and I was really bummed when I heard that filler garbage. The Who doesn't have the same energy and focus to make music the way they once did. Black Ice From AC/DC was really good, but it wasnt Powerage or let there be rock. I dig this....R.I.P. @aalton I gotta say just listened to the clips from all the songs on the album, & I'm liking a lot of the heavier stuff I'm hearing! I'm not gonna say anything else til I've had the album a few weeks and had a good chance to road test it. I just cringe everytime I hear Dave tryin to go high, I just want him to finally pass that stone or take that massive he's been holding.

At least vh write their own stuff .This will never be as great as 1984 , but it has the same elements . CHICKENFOOT listened to theres album prob 4 times , ive listen to TATTOO 100+ times n i love it , listen to it next to old VHstuff its still got the magic . Love Van Halen. Like Tattoo. This song is out of place I feel. Miss Sammy and Michael... However, I will be going to concert in May. David Lee is original singer and brings something different to the performance. Hope Wolfie can up his game as far as stage presence goes, and looking forward to rest of album. Good luck Boys!
