  • 2012 juarez, my 2006 ss just had that problem and my engine light was on. if yours is on then get it scanned at autozone. mine was the thermostat. most likely the same thing

  • anyone has a 2008 cobalt ls with coolant ----?

  • i totaled mine :( i miss it so much

  • My 04 cavalier has similar results even though my car seems a tad bit quicker off the line

  • @FordHaten its lighter lol what do you expect?

  • The 2.2s didn't have Variable Valve Timing until 2009. The 2009 and 2010 2.2 Cobalts should have it though. The HP and Torque difference is very minimal from what I'm reading.

  • @kcg795 the 09 cobalts on up do have VVT

  • its about right, but mine is about a second or 2 faster. did you remove your air resonator/silencer?

  • @DeltaChristian360

doubt it. unless you have a supercharged or turbo ss your not 1 or 2 seconds faster. Maybe 1/2 a second faster if your manual and if your auto exhaust and intake isn't adding enough power to cut 1-2 seconds off your time lol.

  • @coupe3kgt you are sort of correct. my mistake its actually about .75 to 1 second faster. i timed it with a timer instead of counting in my head so i counted a seond faster in my head. but i didnt time it when my engine is below 195 F. when im going somewhere, usually far distance my car will hit 200 F and thats when i time it.

  • @DeltaChristian360 wtf, 200? I'm at 180 in a Supercharged one.

  • 2.2s don't have variable valves.

    i own one.

  • @fordruleskiasux I know

  • My Bugatti Veyron could eat the guy's cars below mee!

  • what kind of gas mileage do you get and do you think a 6 foot 2 person would fit confortably

  • @pizzaisgood14 well I'm 16 about 230 6'0 (football) and when I sat in it I was fine but I do recommend you test it yourself.

  • I have a 2007 Lt3 stock with the 2.2 4 cyl man trans. I have recorded my 0-60 times between 7.4 and 7.8. my buddy has the exact same cobalt just with an auto trans and his is a lot slower then mine.

  • i have a K@N drop-in with a cat-back and im at a 0-60 at 7.8 seconds.

  • my stock cobalt lt (automatic) does about that same time also. it has 65000 miles on it. cant get an accurat time cuz where i live, cops are everywhere. had to slow down. theres 1 even in my nieghborhood parked about a block from my house.

  • my ma's minivan gets a better 0-60

  • 5mpg YAY!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Trifecta can reprogram the automatic transmission for better shift points.

  • cool! hey what year model and engine do u have?

i ALso have a chevy colbalt 2008 im not sure how many L's but i know its 4 cyl ecotec btw its a 4 door auto transmission , also whenever i try speed up from 0-60 the higher the rpm will go is to 5, however i dont push on the throttle all the way down im scared to blow out the engine if i do, i guess is me cuz i dont know much about cars so do you push on the throttle all the way to get to 6.5 rpm like on the video? Chevy Colbalt is pretty fast

  • for 2.2l auto cobalt owners, try this (if you don't already know about this) : at around 25, put it in "I" and floor it, reeeal nice punch. and also around 65-70 through it in "L" and floor it" very nice as well. (regular "D" will not shift down at that speed)

  • @liquidr0x0r what do u mean 65-70 floor it again? didnt u already floor it at around 25?

  • @FateAtYourWindow well I mean different instances haha. like if your just cruising at either of those speeds, and want to get the most accel, that's the way to do it. at least with my '08 ecu

  • @liquidr0x0r so i assume u r talking about the numbers in Km/hr.

and what about from 0-100, what gear would u be on at 0, do u switch from D to I to L at 0 to 25 to 70?

it seems that on D i can never get over 4500RPM

  • yeah, i've got the same one. I like the accel. just wish i could get a lot quicker 0-20. sometimes it feels reeeeeal slow at the take off. as compared to my friends '06 mazda 3, which is extremely quick from the start but then doesnt keep the pace throughout the speedometer. oh, and also, with a proper launch technique, and brand new tires, i can get about 7.4-7.5 0-60 in my 2008 2.2l 34,000 miles.

  • hey, if i put a k&g air intake, would it increase how quick it could reach 0-60? i got an 07 chevy cobalt lt stock

  • @DeltaChristian360 The K&N intake has thrown CEL (check engine 'light') for many Cobalt 2.2 owners. I have asked around and Injen (the later one that can be a CAI or WAI) is the best. The Eco has such a high compression 10:1 and running 87 octane, the intake sensor is picky about intakes. It will try to throw a lean code. I hear the JET performance intake sensor is good for this as it modifies the signal to compensate for the extra incoming air so you wont go lean. Basically an intake tune.

  • 2.2L????? Very very very very very very very SLOW!!!!

  • @reidladam Why do you consider 8 seconds to 60 slow for an economy car?

Yesterdays 4 bangers were hitting 60 in 10-12 seconds.

The 2.2 Ecotec has a lot of potential.

In other words it is an inexpensive car with a solid motor that can be modded to be a lot faster than most 4 bangers.

  • @Mike85220 true, but i dont know what mod u can do on an auto transmission lol

  • I have had a 2.4 SS come up on my 2.2 Cobalt and he gunned it when he paralleled me, I punched it a second later but stayed even with him staring at the SS's bumper. That is because I did not know he was going to gun it and I reacted late. The guy had a really perplexed look after we both slowed and I eventually passed due to the set-up in traffic. The 2.2 is only a half second slower to 60 and on the freeway it seems they both pull the same.

  • @2005buickallure The Ecotec is infamous for being a slug when new. Mine was lucky to hit 60 in 9 seconds. Now that I have over 40k miles on the motor, it is hitting 60 in about 8-8.3 seconds depending on the temp outside, how much gas is in the tank, how long since the last oil change and how old the filter is.

  • Add some mods & make it in 5 sec.

  • Its definetly stock because I have the same one.

  • stock? i dont think it is

  • @rgrafton It is completely stock. I currently have over 63,000 miles on the original tires and brakes.

  • Comment removed

  • @atomicshark yeah sound like stock to me as well

  • @atomicshark That is it right there... I remembered getting my Cobalt new, and wondering where the boat anchor was attached. It started to get peppy around 30k. My brother's Cobalt sedan feels a lot quicker on the lows and mids to my coupe. He has 95k miles on his. I have driven many times, and wondered why his was so much more responsive on the lows and mids. I watch all these vids of 8-9 second runs and wonder why some are much slower than your Cobalt. I am sure these motors need broken in.

  • @Mike85220 Someone on the Cobalt forum said the computer program does not allow for spirited driving until it hit a certain mileage as there was a breaking-in period. I cannot vouche for this at all. Another said they put these motors together with tight tolerances. Once they loosen up they start to get a little quicker. I cannot say this is the reason for certain, but everytime a low mileage Cobalt videos a 0-60 run, they hit 60 around 9 seconds, not 8 like yours. That is a big difference.

  • @atomicshark Yeah. My stock HHR does about that time, but it's a manual.

  • @atomicshark i have a 2.2 with 105700 miles on it, and i can hit 90 in 3rd

  • @rgrafton The fastest i've seen a 2006+ civic 1.8L is 7.7 never see a Cobalt under 8 stock bitch

  • @mustangmikeca lol how about how fast is YOUR automatic civic "bitch"?

  • @DOHCCordia I drive a Manual Civic pathetic attempt at an insult

  • @mustangmikeca Seeing as you dont have a prelude that doesnt matter. Lets see your civic race a 2.2 cobalt. or a 2.4 cobalt or a 2.4 G5 Gt or an SS/SC or an SS/TC. You say all these cars are junk so by all means then your 1.7L automatic civic should have no issue beating a junk car right?

  • @mustangmikeca Seeing as how your profile has an auto civics video Id say the only thing pathetic is that even if its a 5spd it doesnt change the fact youd still lose. Just makes it a slightly closer race. So your pathetic attempt at putting down a car faster than yours is pure FAIL. But its amusing that you keep trying. Its like a ricer flyby that gets denied over and over. Tell you what. If your ever near stl chicago or kansas city I will race you in my auto cobalt (daily driver).

  • @DOHCCordia I don't have any videos on my profile of my Civic and it's a 5-sped anyways bitch

  • @mustangmikeca Tell you what. If your ever near stl chicago or kansas city I will race you in my auto cobalt (daily driver). Will be down in texas at the beginning of june. So could even do oklahoma or texas as well. I mean your ULTIMATE COBALT KILLING CIVIC wouldnt have an issue beating an NA auto cobalt now would it?

  • @DOHCCordia Oh yeah of course you want your .5L bigger Cobalt to race my Civic because that's the only way you'd win bitch

  • @mustangmikeca My cobalt isnt .5L bigger than your civic dumbass. lol and your talking shit on it so you must be able to beat it!

  • @mustangmikeca lol my cobalts not .5L bigger than your civic idiot. And your talking shit on the 2.2 cobalt so you obviously have enough to beat it! So whats the problem? Your the kid of idiot that would talk shit at a car meet then get the crap pounded out of you for not being able to back up what your preaching!

  • @DOHCCordia I'm talking shit about the Cobalt just because it has plastics worse than a chinese toy factory and it a low resale piece of shit. The prelude 2.2L can smoke your cobalt bitch

  • @mustangmikeca have you seen how bad the plastic looks in the 2012 civic? The magazines are saying a hyundai looks better. Dont think you have much room to talk. And btw a 2.2 (H22) in stock condition just barely edges my dd out (sad considering my cobalts an auto 2.4) Now an H23 5spd with exhaust and intake I edge out by a car and a half at 90. So bring your sisters hand me down car (your car) out and see how your shit talking mouth does against an auto cobalt (it really sad you wont win)

  • @DOHCCordia A stock Prelude 2.2L is 6.7 0-60; .4sec faster than a manual 2.4L Cobalt unless you modify if it coursebitch

  • @rgrafton Thats stock... i can do the same in my cobalt without trying

  • what is the maximum shifting speed in 1st, 2nd, etc ?

  • @222Panther222 when floored in "L" in auto, it goes to 35, then 75, then idk haha, i know around 105 it switches a gear.

  • I wonder if it is thanks to the new fly by wire system and the fact the motor is a 10:1 compression ratio. That is pretty high and when running 87 octane, is pushing it. I bet the fly by wire even though you have it floored, sends a signal to the throttle to open up at a rate to prevent ping and detonation. More air coming in probably makes the computer just compensate even more.

  • The best time for stock I have seen for the 2.2 Cobalt coupe is 7.97 seconds. Seems like most people are hitting 60 in 9.5 seconds though. Here it timed out to 8.4 seconds. But what is interesting, the others hitting it in 9.5 seconds have an intake, exhaust or both.

  • @Mike85220 I do know that the 2.2 Ecotec takes a while to break in. It is very slow when new. Mine took at least 10k miles to start showing any signs of waking up. I have 40k now, and it is as quick as it will ever go which is about 8 seconds 0-60. I worry about adding bolt ons as all the videos on Youtube seem to indicate slower times.

  • hm.... You could probably shave a good .5 sec or better if you ran it on lower fuel. I mean, i know its FWD but you had a full tank.

  • slower than my 2009 Dodge Charger SXT LMAO

  • @vinylcollector08 its a 2.2

  • totally downhill

  • i raced an 08 i believe, kinda half assed the take off, but with a full load of people in my monte, and we were side by side the entire way

  • Horsepower and torque are some of the most misunderstood concepts in the auto world. A car with less specific torque is not necessarily slower.

  • if you turbo'd the Lt it might be faster than the ss due to the bigger engine

  • in theory yes, but not the new ss engine. its worked completely different. direct fuel injection.

  • are you sure you dont have any mod on it ? what year is it ?

  • nevermind, i just saw it on your profile, its a 08

  • 5 mpg is good, the new silverado goes to 1 mpg when you floor it. haha

  • come join chevycobaltforum[dot]com

  • The Cobalt 2.2 is an economy car, so why is it everyone chimes in like my Porsche will stomp you and 8 second 0-60 sucks? This makes no sense... This video is for people with economy cars and not for comparatives for owners with sports cars.

  • then go watch your Porsche videos

  • + 1

  • hes just mad cause he cant afford one cause he sits at home on his moms titt cobalts are one of the best care ver made by gm besides cavalier but they are basically the same they are nice good on gas and fast when u need them to be

  • i have the same car in manual and i got to 60 in about 6 seconds just before hitting 3rd gear. XD

  • I am glad you have an Ecotec 2.2 that is at least broken in before video taping. Some are posting videos when new, and of course the engine is a slug until it wears in. Mine did the same thing. I am also averaging 32mpg. It is a good engine, lots of potential.

  • Fuck you and your stupid Cobalt. I hope you total your stupid ass Cobalt.

  • Fuck all yall bitch ass teeth niggers, All yall need to stop refrigeration and get real prizons. If yall dont fijure out what you is you never tealize what you be made of.

  • My tahoe(5.3 v8) would get owned by this car. :/

  • my mom used to have a 06 cobalt LT 2dr but she got rid of it and bought a 09 mustang v6 pony XD

  • I was a the local track yesterday. Cobalt LT's best time 16.8. It was faster then a new stock Civic and stock Lancer. I also have a Mustang GT and it's not fast enough for me. I guess it depends what we expect.

  • No way, your lying., My mom has a geo metro tha nigger slaves pull because the engine blew out years ago biatch

  • Cobalt LS\LT are slow. I know, I have one. Not sure why botter post such video here...

  • I wouldn't call them slow by any stretch... I know i have one. They are fast for a 4 cylinder

  • What? 0-60 in a little less than 8 second is pretty good for any car, but especially for a little 4 banger LS/LT stock whose main design was just fuel economy.

  • Comment removed

  • The Ford GT is hot. You should post some vids of you driving it. BTW, why on earth would you comment on my lowly Cobalt when you drive a super car?

I could almost understand if you commented on my GTO video, but even my GTO doesn't come close to the GT. Weird.

  • lol that dude dont have no ford gt.

  • you dont have AN education. FAGGOT

  • dont have AN ford gt? hahaha yeah thats real proper spelling huh PUSSY

  • bet you'd feel pretty stupid if i posted a video of it?

  • you dont have one man its okay.

  • i met a guy who was trying to be a hardass with his colbalt, i shut him up pretty quick, haha i just wanted to see what was up with these things, cause i run into them on the street all the time and they always wanna race...

  • sorry, every guy i know who has Colbalt SS is a fag, plus i was sort of in the heat of the momment when i got my GT i know ive seen . I had a GTO once, i loved the thing, 6.0, black. super smooth ride...

  • @cchshockey4 OHHH RLY?!

  • moment*

  • owned

  • no offense it's just who cares about your ford gt its a super car this is a cobalt so who cares man really!!!!!!!!!!!. not trying to be rude or anything just really.

  • I have this car in a 5 speed manual and it is definitely quicker and more nimble than the auto.

  • Is it Auto or Manual?

  • Auto.

  • Cobalts get the full HP range at 3600 rpm which will destroy any car in its class in a race up hill. Destroys Honda, and VW in a hill climb any day.

  • who races uphill?

  • @drudawg911 who races up hill? dumbass

  • @Pimpabe2009 i do, my car has more torque than you have brains fag... ooo owned, if you respond to this comment you are officially flagged as being gay.

  • @drudawg911 wow ur really mature huh? fuckin idiot...ur cars torque is shit...well same as the driver i guess...what a shitty car

  • @drudawg911 Hill climb requires torque there chief. The Rabbit/Golf, which is probably in the same class, has 177 lb-ft of torque which is reached at 4,250 RPM. The Cobalt has 150 lb-ft which is reached at 4,900 RPM. Yes, there's a weight difference, but the torque to weight ratio is higher with the Rabbit/Golf. So I have a hard time seeing it kill a VW in a hill climb any day.

  • @drudawg911 even an old audi 2.8 would destroy this. and up against a 3.0? no chance, the 1.8t gets full stock spool are like 3400rpms not to mention there absoulute torque monsters...and add a chip boom 200-215hp and over 250ft lbs of torque

  • @drudawg911 so you mean cobalts get their full 152 ft lbs of torque (at crank) at 3600 rpm? thats like 110 to the wheels! HOLY SHIT THATS A LOT! these things run 16.5's in a 1/4 mile if you're a good driver. who does hill climbs anyway lol DUDE lets race on top of a hill!

  • @hwhhww You'd be surprised what people do with vehicles to impress someone they don't know. The Cobalt has respectable performance for a compact car. Not a lot of power ,but you can take out any other compact sedan in the market. HOLY SHIT, more like 130-135 ft lbs at the wheels! With a better exhaust and a Cold Air Intake you can get 15 secs on the 1/4 mile. Not bad.

  • @drudawg911 The 2006+ Civic 1.8L does 0-60 in 7.7 seconds so fuck your cheap, low resale Cobalt bitch

  • @mustangmikeca this ISNT MY CAR in this video, your internet reputation and all around coolness factor has been reduced by -10 points for attacking someone who isnt the author of the preceeding video... my car goes .2seconds faster than this so called for-mentioned civic so.... BOO YEA BITCH! my internet greatness rating has been boosted by +5 points for responding to said random comment and turning this into a "who can pee the furthest" contest OWNED ROOKIE JUST ROLLED KID!

  • @mustangmikeca lol i just beat that cicic . dude go check my video called gypsy race night .. bitch lololol

  • @602stevew123 civic

  • @mustangmikeca a cobalt would smoke the shit outta ur piece of shit honda.

  • @illni11 well yeah my 1.7L which is half a liter smaller, of crouse the Cobalt has more power but no the 197HP SI bitch

  • @mustangmikeca ok the top civic verus the top cobalt, the ss will crush an si, there's no comparison, honda sucks! fucking people in asia dont even like them, they'd rather have nissan

  • @illni11 OF course there's no comparison, the Cobalt SS is turbo charged bitch

  • @mustangmikeca well dumbass not all cobalt SS are turbo's most are super charged and some arent even supercharged, an SS with just a 2.4l ecotec engine will smoke a piece of shit si

  • @illni11 Pontiac G5 GT 0-60 7.1sec Civic SI 0-60 6.3sec Boom, shut you down bitch ass, running your cocksucking mouth without facts

  • @mustangmikeca well dumbass you didnt prove shit cuz ur pea sized brain cant comprehend that im talking about a cobalt and not a G5, idc if they have the same engine, there's other factors that go into speed, but you probably didnt know that dumbass

  • @illni11 Regardless, the Civic SI is faster than the 2.4 Cobalt or G5 bitch

  • @mustangmikeca well bitch considering there's no way in hell that it does 0-60 in 6.3 secs id say not, i've looked on many websites even some clubsi sites that say it usually runs 7.6 and best at 7.3! Its not as fast as you'd like to think

  • @mustangmikeca You have an automatic civic not an SI. Quit your shit talking. Go and race half the cars you talk shit on!

  • @mustangmikeca i highly doubt that

  • @illni11 Yeah a 2.2L prelude is 6.7 0-60 and the Cobalt 2.4 is about 7.1 look it up bitch

  • @mustangmikeca well considering your last 0-60 time you said was horribily off im defeintly not gonna believe that a prelude is gonna beat a cobalt. how you even came up with such a horrible come back idk, apparently you realized civics suck so you had to try a new honda!

  • @mustangmikeca A new Honda? I mentioned the Prelude because its displacement is the same as the Cobalt 2.2. The 2.2 takes over 8sec 0-60 bitch even the 2.4L Cobalt is only 7.1sec .4sec slower than the prelude bitch Before people were saying it coul beat my Civic which is 1.7L which is true because it's not a fair match bitch

  • @mustangmikeca No shit, cobalt motors don't have vtec. You know a k20 will make 130 whp out of vtec if they're lucky which is less than a cavalier so point is honda's are shit without it.

  • @supersmashist WTF of course the the Cobalt 2.2L has vavle timing, google it. It's not as good as Hondas VTEC. The base K20 with timing on only the exgaust is 130whp which is 160HP at the crank more than a Cavalier bitch and it has less displacement. It's 200HP stock at the crank in the RSX type S bitch

  • @mustangmikeca 2.2 eco's don't have valve timming the only one that does is the 2.4 and that isn't even designed for top end performance. And no one cares about crank horsepower whp is the only thing that truly matters. Point is vtec is the gayest thing in the automotive world its all of the lag and none of the boost. It's just a wannabe turbo feel for wannabe racers.

  • @supersmashist Are you for real? Google Cobalt 2.2L valve timing. you're just mad because the Prelude 2.2L gets 45 more HP than your shitty Cobalt 2.2L bitch haha

  • @mustangmikeca 2 things:

    1. I don't drive a cobalt

    2. 2.2 eco's don't have varible valve timing

  • @supersmashist Google Cobalt 2.2L valve timing, you'll see tons of sties showing it has valve timing btich

  • @mustangmikeca you have an automatic civic "BOOM, SHUT YOU DOWN BITCH ASS"

  • @mustangmikeca AND YOUR CIVIC IS AN AUTO "BITCH"

  • @mustangmikeca Fine then race your civic against a cobalt 2.2 or a cobalt 2.4 youd still lose.

  • @DOHCCordia Oh yeah you think the 2.2L Cobalt is so great because it can beat a 1.7L Civic. Compare silimar sized engines, the 2.2L Prelude would smoke it bitch

  • @mustangmikeca And your civic is even slower than that. So whats that say about you?

  • clipped it at 7.72! not bad for a stock cobalt!

  • 5 Inst MPG lol

  • you did not even get to 60 you had to shift one more time . . .

thats impressive for a non ss though

  • civics suck for torque. my friend has a si w a bunch of mods and when it dynoed it was only 187.7hp n 134ft lbs of torque. thats sad.

  • timed it at 7.76

  • I have an 06 cobalt coupe hands down it takes off way better then a civic because it has tons more torque, i know this because i test drove an 06 civic auto and it is weak off the line the main reason i didn't buy it, you can't even chirp the tires, odviously the guy you racing wasn't even trying or you are imagining things

  • Comment removed

  • for some reason my cousin had a rental one and i coulda sworn we lost to so many cars..lol.

it was really slower. i think its a bit slower than the civic to be honest.

  • I would bet money that this run was done down a hill.

  • No. Actually I started on a slightly upward grade. I've driven the '08 Civic EX and it is definitely a bit slower. Get over it. The Civic SI is pretty fast but, again the Cobalt SS easily beats it too. It's OK though, the Civic is a Honda and has great resale value.

BTW, I owned two Accords ('00 EX V6 coupe and '03 EX Sedan) so I'm as impartial as you can get.

  • I counted alittle over 8 seconds... That's pretty impressive if it's really an automatic and the ecotec 2.2. This car could easily be in the 7's if it shaved off some weight.

The 4dr LT curb weights in 3,200 lbs.

    To put that in perspective:

    Corolla LE weighs in 2,550lbs.

    Mazda 3 S 2,906 lbs.

  • Yes, it is a 2.2L automatic.

The curb weight is a hair under 3,000 lbs. According to my registration it weighs 2,809 lbs. but I don't know how accurate it is. I'd love it if it weighed less though. ;)

I really don't mind the weight since it is just as fast or faster that the Mazda3 or Corolla LE.

  • Na, the 2.2 cobalts arent that fast. I raced a dude in one last night and whipped his ass, i have a 2009 Civic. Check out my 0-60 vid, my civic does 0-80 in about 14 or less seconds. 0-60 in 8.8

  • OK, that vid I took is a figment of your imagination. Check out my Accord and GTO vids for something faster. ;)

  • thats still slow though its not like you could beat anybody either!

  • @Edgarwinter too bad it weren't me and my cobalt 2.2. I know how to drive one, the trick to it is first get a roll on race and pull the shift to low gear where your running in the power band, I beat all kinds of cars and trucks including a 5.9 liter ram and a civic but met my match in a modified tiburon, soon get me a chip where i can get rid of the rev limiter and do some top speed run on the highway

  • I test drove both the V8 & V6 a couple weeks back when the dealer had some in stock. Due to the lower price and incentives I"ll probably go with the V6 as I'll get in enough trouble with that. The wife will drive it too, and she's scared of my Durango as it is with the big V8 and she won't go near it. lol. I don't have the space for a third vehicle!

  • I don't like VWs. They're overpriced for everything they offer. Canada doesn't sell the base models that can be had in the USA either. An entry level Jetta 2.5 starts at $22K...while you can get a Nissan Sentra or Chevy Cobalt (base models) for less than $16K minus a couple standard features. Jetta base 2.0T starts at over $27K, 3K more than the 2.0L diesel. I think the new G8 GT will replace my aging '99 Ford Taurus as my commuter vehicle soon.
