  • It was great to hear this from Mr. Newby. My father served with the 65th Infantry Division during WWII and he recounted to us this exact same story as Mr. Newby tells it. My father also earned a Bronze Star and two battle stars during his time in Europe. His name was Corporal William Brandt.

  • My grandfather served with the 65th Division in the 259th Battalion. He landing and trained at camp "Lucky Strike". By the first week of march the 65th moved up to the front at Saarlaurteen and saw some of the fiercest fighting on the seigfried line.

  • @Emrekpelmu lol hurr durr thumbs up this guy is a internet hero

  • Hey Bob thanks for hooking me up with the video.... Pretty dang cool.. I can't believe how great Jim looks... Quite a guy...

  • Proud you should be Sir, and thank you for putting it all on the line for me whom you do not know and was not yet born. A friend of mine's Father was in WWII, he was a tank commander. He got shot up pretty bad when his tank was strafed in his last 3 months to be there, but he survived. I myself was in the Navy 81 - 84. Didn't have to fight thank God, but was ready and willing to do so. You are a hero to me even if you didn't ask for it. Thanks again.

  • I would love to get in contact with Mr. Newby and ask him questions.

  • im from grants pass as well. thank you for posting

  • A humble man who served his country well. Nice presentation. Thanks.

  • Thanks BHAUB for doing this video. Do more! Thanks, Mr. Newby for your service! Some of our local vets at me3tv (youtube).

  • I've passed on your comments to Jim and directed him to the m3tv site... thanks for adding this video to the line up.

Later Jim went on and served in Korea, the tank he commanded is in a snap shot at the end of this video. Had his age not been a factor at the time, I understand he would have served in Vietnam had they allowed. Several years later he went into law enforcement where he later got himself elected as Sheriff of Josephine County.

  • @jjps63 Thank you for your honest and sincere comment's. My family and I have served, some in the 65th From Puerto Rico; from WWI through today. Hero's are always humble. You are a hero sir. Puerto Rico had no representation in thhe congress or senate. That is why the military abused the 65th. Sent them to the front (the meat grinder). Thank you for your service, and enduring the hardships, and your honest words. Dios te bendiga, a ti y a tu familia. Para siempre. Adios.
