  • WOW! Wonder how four lowlife douchbags can not like this. What! just because she has healthy interests and doesnt lie legs splayed in the back alley of a club on a saturday. You go Abby. You are a true rolemodel.

  • @enexiti how about cape town ? the southern tip of south Africa?

  • there are more pirates around africa.. and belive me.. ive been working in benin and togo and there was french coast guard there

  • This American princess cost Australian tax payers 100's of THOUSANDS of dollars that could have been used for the people who's wages were taxed for THEIR benefit.

If she's well off enough for mommy and daddy to enable this, tehy, or their country, (US), should compensate the people of Australia.

If you want to take massive risks, (BP?), then you should take on the costs that can result.

  • @ROOKTABULA Mommy and Daddy did not foot the financial bill. She was sponsored in order to do it. Ya didn't happen to notice the number of corporate logos on the boat did you?

BTW, I was doing similarly risked activities when I was her age, even younger. Going up into the wilderness in areas known to claim lives of experienced hikers. For days or a couple of weeks at a time with nothing more than could be carried on my back. And I didn't even have an EPIRB.

  • lol now she gets a book deal...lol shes 16 so it should be about 30 pages..lol

  • i hear she is considering writing a book, i think the baddes bad ass she could be would be to pay for the rescue, that would be badass, book revenue

  • @hydroplaneracing not too mention the many underprivileged kids that are overcoming real odds everyday. hell, there are cubans and haitians sailing in inner tubes to find freedom. but c'mon if she was Black,Mexican etc. you guys would be ready for child protection to take her away. whites reward white stupidity. remember the little wht boy who stole the fam. car being chased by police? he and his fam. were guests on GM America and was told how cute it was.

  • its annoying when they keep saying youngest, she'll be the youngest american to sail the world cause jessica watson is the youngest to sail the world right now but she's australian and do they really sail the world cause they go past, america, south america, africa, austrailia but it doesn't say anything about europe, asia, or antarctica, don't get wrong, i think its amazing that these young people can do this, i certainly wouldn't have the guts to do it, so kudos to all of them

  • Okay let's understand something here, you can't go skydiving until you are 18 years old. Sailing by oneself in rough seas can be just as dangerous.

If her parents wish to have their little darling out at sea by herself and the law states that it is alright (child endangerment may be an issue) then that is fine with me but let us remember that a rescue out at sea is a very expensive undertaking and no one but Ms. Abby Sunderland and her parents should have to foot the bill.

  • If all of our children were this intrepid, we would have no more problems!! (She foundered in the Indian Ocean but was rescued today, 6/12/10)

  • who gives a damn of her sailing? kids younger than her have been doing it for centuries

  • @mrabuckten my mom has been passed away for 18 years now. try again and try to be normal. i know that's asking a lot from you

  • @mrabuckten If you're going to speak maybe put down the crack pipe and learn to speak normally and make some sense

  • BTW, she did nothing wrong and her age has nothing to do with her being dismasted. She was hit by a large tropical storm. Had it been me on the boat rather than her, it still would be dismasted. So far, I see nothing but competence - especially including her decision to give up on her non-stop goal in order to go back and get the autopilot fixed. A mature decision.

  • @independentview1 Oh get over yourself. Let's just lock everyone up in padded cells, then no one would ever get hurt. Or better yet, let's appoint someone to be the dictator of all that people can do. This person could, for instance, send you to prison for driving - since you are an idiot and a clear and present danger to all the rest of us. 50,000 die each year in car wreck, most of whom are under age 20. Only one or two people die in long range sailing accidents each year. Let's ban YOU.

  • @gorillapilot If someone is an adult live on the edge all they want but don't expect help when their stupid, childish, ego trip gets you in more than you can handle. Those under 20 make up a small portion of drivers but make up a large amount of deaths in car accidents. People under 20 can't even handle a car. Only one or two people a year die in long range sailing accidents because most people are intelligent and mature enough to understand a pointless danger when they see one.

  • Abby, I'm proud of you, God in Heaven is with you, help is on the way baby, don't be scared of anything, remain the heroine you've proven you are, I'm praying here. Cheers!

  • why are lots of people here so negative....hey, Abby made her choice to pursue her dream, so be it. Sailing is her passion and she is well aware of all the risks and dangers. I hope she is safe and sound.....God bless you, Abby.

  • abby where are u now? hope ur ok.

  • I hope they find her alive and well. However trying to sail around the world that young on a small boat like that, all by yourself with no assistance is not that bright. She had a love for admiration and sucess and it might have just cost her her life. And there will be noone to blame but her

  • @fasteddie847 no one to blame but her??? nah how about we blame her parants for allowing it to happen... they pritty much caused this to happen

  • @4everthesystem Maybe a little bit on her parents. But if this girl is old enough to sail by herself she needs to take the brunt of the responsibility. I hope she makes it home safe but doing what she did wasn't bright. Abby knew the risks, but she was blinded by her lust for fame and fortune and it might have just cost her her life and she deserves most of the blame

  • @4everthesystem How do you know? Do you know the family personally?

  • @fasteddie847 I agree with you up to the end. Her parents should be held accountable for child endangerment.

  • @independentview1 I still disagree. This girl is a sharp cookie. She knew the dangers of doing this solo. It's just like a 16 year old is reckless driving and kills someone on a bicycle, etc. Do you blame her parents? Of course not. Abby knew the risks and dangers. She was overpowered by her lust for fame and fortune and it might cost her her life. And there will be noone to blame but her

  • @fasteddie847 I guess that would depend if her parents knew she was a reckless driver and still let her drive. I would agree Abby was overpowered by her disire to be famous and it sounds like that desire was fueled by her parents. There is no way any responsible parent would ever dream of letting a child attempt this.

  • Praying for your SAFE return Abby!! You're a fighter and a winner, dont' give up!!

  • Awesome! missed yah! much love!

  • Good luck girl!

  • @Hallbergrussy, I agree. I hope that she is succesful.

  • 16 year old Aussie Jessica Watson is over halfway now with the same goal! These young people are so brave and inspirtional! I hope both Abby and Jessica make it home safely! So glad to see them living their dream!

Oh and the 13yr old Netherlands girl has actually been given approval now and leaves very soon on her trip!

  • i have to study her for school she is sooo amazingg
