now I watched more of the video and have another comment lol...it sounds worse because of the loose or missing screws in the front that you mentioned. You do need those screws in there I'm pretty sure.
I was having trouble with my ion cymbals lately and I started to think that it was me and they make a horrible sound everytime I hit them...like a plastic cracking sound. Last night my husband tightened up all the screws for me on the bottom of the green and yellow cymbal and they work perfectly..I get every hit now..not getting any dropped notes or double hits or anything!! I was so excited!!
@ComiCast why do you think the screws wouldn't come out, its because the poles were broken and stuck on the screw so it wouldn't loosen or tighten. there is videos on what guys do to fix this. one guy just keeps the cover off and he puts some kind of putty to keep the circuitry in place.look it up if u want
@ComiCast man you really took that the wong way. if you watch the vid again or open up the cymbal you can see that the screw poles on the bottom are broken off. its a common problem with the ion cymbals(design defect) it turns out they break from hitting edge shots instead of hitting the cymbals on the top like you should on the high hat and ride. you really seem like a hyper person, not healthy, lol.
@TruClassic I apologize for taking it the wrong way, but you never specified that you meant the poles were broken internally. Be more specific and don't make inflammatory comments when you're trying to be constructive (such as referring to me being unhealthily "hyper", but I'll just take that as a defensive response). I'll take another look at the cymbals and let you know if it was the problem.
did the cymbal continue to double hit? cuz thats why you couldn't screw in the screws cuz the little poles that the screws screw into are broken off hence it rattles when struck causing an unwanted hit. i'm surprised you didn't pick up on it, probably cuz u were so worried about video length.
@TruClassic No it doesn't double hit (aside from a rare double hit once in a while, no where near how often it hit before). The screws are tightly screwed, not "broken off" and they are not the source of the noise. I'm surprised you bothered to comment because you were so worried about sounding like a jackass. (the length of the video only showing how quickly and simply it can be done)
black magic! thanks for posting this vid, I was about to buy a new cymbal because it sounded terrible. Never would have guessed that a simple piece of electrical tape would have done the trick
this isnt working my cymbals, they just arent registering everytime. What the hell this is pissing me off. Ive adjusted the top screw literally taking it off. I dont care about the noise I just want a multiple fast hits to register. WTF
I emailed ION and they sent me two replacement cymbals (mine were doing this) and a new kick pedal (it broke as well). All I had to pay was shipping! Thanks to this, now I have two extra's. Thanks ComiCast!
ComiCast! i had the same prob with my kit... the reason why that cymbal is making that atrocious sound is because you have 3 broken nut plates on that cymbal. The 3 screws that you could not remove from the back plate have the nut plates broken behind them... Those nut plates are suppose to be attached to the cymbal. With those 3 nut plates broken, the back plate chatters on the cymbal causing that atrocious sound... Try gluing those nut plates back in place. That will fix the chatter. Rock On!
I just glued the posts back into place with a good quality RC glue and haven't had a problem ever since.

@TruClassic You were right, taking out the poles definitely got rid of a lot more noise. Thank you for the tip.

you have your cymbals WAY too loose... thats why they sound like shit...
HBlakeH 1 year ago
@HBlakeH I literally couldn't tighten them more without breaking the screw, but I forgot, you could touch them yourself.
