What country are you living in that you think it's just been the last 9 months that the economy has been going in the toilet, and people have been out of jobs?!?!? The country has been going downhill since Bush took office, and even in the quarters when there was an "increase" in jobs, there were usually job losses among good jobs, but an increase among minimum wage type jobs. The military has always been a place for those of little means to find a way up, but it's so much worse now.
In the last 3 and 1/2 years I've had 3 different jobs, none of which I was fired from. Only recently, with the housing crash, did work truly become hard to find.
Until the housing crisis, areas like the southwest were BOOMING. Places like the Detroit and Cleveland (the area in which I grew up) have been dying for 15 years, far before Bush ever took office.
In fact, many fields, especially those in technology, are still thriving.
