TAKE IT EASY! Eventhou this is a classic bossa song this is not bossa (it hasn't the emblematic bass-armony-chords from an strict bossa) we can waste hours arguing.
U JUST FEEL!
A guitar teacher from the conservatory told me about the origins of jazz, salsa n' bossa, and in some point (musically) they face each other, they are quite close, like brothers, and the teacher wasn't talkin'bout theory (some facts can be dubious, many truths) but common sense! If u play bossa or jazz u get it! FEEL!
I'm sorry for this, but you must not marvel Iggy Pop for this. This song is from ANTÔNIO CARLOS JOBIM, the best Brazilian musician of all time, and in my opinion, one of the best of the world. He deserves respect for his work.
It's not only Jazz, without the influence of the brazilian Samba, it will be just another american jazz.
And repeating what someone said here. I would never imagined that Iggy Pop had recorded this amazing song from the masters of brazilian music Tom Jobim and the genious, Vinicius de Moraes.
Actually, Bossa Nova is a form of Latin Jazz, generally speaking. You can have a song with a Bossa feel that isn't jazz, but most Bossa Nova tunes are done in a jazz tradition. By jazz tradition, I mean a written head that's embellished with room for soloists to improvist. Most Jobim tunes are written this way, and this is his tune. He's known as the greatest latin jazz/bossa nova composer of all time.
i like all versions of how insensitive, i did never imagine that Iggy likes Jobim... And he makes it very, very goooood.... thanks for posting i did not know this one....
This whole cd is a big fuck you to everyone whos hating on it. Because he wants you to, hes sick of doing the same shit for 40 some off years. Now its his time, to do whatever the fuck he wants. GO Iggy!
"Insensatez" (usually translated to "How Insensitive" in English, although the Portuguese word really means 'absurdity' or 'folly') is a bossa nova jazz standard composed by Antônio Carlos Jobim, loosely based on Frederic Chopin's Prelude No.4 with lyrics by Vinícius de Moraes. The English lyrics were written by Norman Gimbel.
@MsParapapa Bossa Nova is considered as latin jazz now. Many Bossa Nova songs are interpreted by jazz musicians in a jazz manner. There is not that big gap between modern jazz and bossa style :)
@MsParapapa u must be a sophisticated faggot to make such statements.. very thin line between dese geners.. and iggy pop sucks.. to be honest the myra malmberg version of this song beats any other vocal version and wes montgomerys jazz guitar sure puts the fizz back in yea arse soo much for being a fag i guess.. i may sound rude.. but people like your self are the number one reason for promoting crap like britney and bieber.. i was in your neighbour hood i'd have dropped a flower pot on yea head

@MsParapapa WelI, I beg to differ! The Samba e bossanova IS the essence of jazz, and I know whereof I speak! Listen! open your heart and soul! And please, o please, tell me when you've got it
@MsParapapa bossa nova is very much jazz... latin jazz or afro cuban jazz... there are 3 standard forms: swing, ballad, and bossa nova.... its a form of jazz
@MsParapapa Its an improvisational standard. Improv. in general is directly associated most commonly with jazz, don't get your panties in a bunch over a misidentification of a sub genre. At least people are still listening to decent music, acting like a pretentious douche will only drive people away from excellent genres like bossa/swing/bebop. Embrace the music, don't argue over it.
@MsParapapa Holy shit! I just saw I wrote a comment 3 weeks ago that's almost the same as the one I just replied to you... I am so predictable. This makes me thinking, man... What's become of me? Repeating the same joke over and over again? Do people find me annoying? Do they find me pathetic? Geez, this is strange. I should be more loving and caring. I love you. I love this world. I am grateful for everything! I will live a good life from now, I promise.
It's music, it's a Ballad, and ANY Ballad can be turned into a JAZZ standard which this is; it's been in the REAL BOOK for decades, the Jazz musicians Bible.
What nonsense. PLENTY of Bossa Nova songs become Jazz pieces. Don't be ridiculous.
Iggy is god definitely ..... he can sing and play any kind of music!!!!!!!!!!!! i adore Iggy totally.......i really want to kiss his soul and bow to the ground in front of his contribution to music....Iggy is my idol.....he is the greatest rock icon of all times.....
MsParapapa, do you enjoy the music/song?
