This album was my introduction to The Yellowjackets, back in the 80s, as a teen working at a local record store, and playing drums for a local band. Of course "Wildlife" was the first draw, but it didn't take too long to start lovin' the rest of the album. I traveled a lot so this tape & song were always a favorite, planted in my car's cassette player.
Love the comments......."speed seems to increse" and "fly over to a better side of life." I used to play this song like 4 or 5 times in a row and it always me feel better. Love this group.
i love this song by the Yellowjackets. This Album Four Corners, Was probably their most Musically challenging Album up until this point in they're career.
This band knows how to compose a tune! And they do it over and over again, coming up with so many winners. Keeping Jazz alive in this day and age is not an easy thing given what passes for musicianship, let alone music, and even worse what is rewarded (both by fellow 'musicians' and monetarily by the listeners. Can't wait for June to come around so I support them when they come to gig here!
man we played this song for our last concert, in the open section, that was the funnest part in the song, and i must say in the four years of high school, this is one of my favorite song....
One of my favorite CD's of all time. Great music on this one. They tapped into a very special musical vein during this period of their time together and I still look forward to everything they do.

This was the first song I heard of the Yellowjackets...my dad introduced me to them in the 80's. I was like 6 or 7, i can still remember hearing it in the car!!
@GDelva2003 heres what sounds the same.. the accompaniment pattern of the chords (same rhythm), the beginning of the melody is the same (listen to the melody of both tunes and how they start).... not to mention the entire vibe (as much as I hate this word).. same beat too. and the intro of mile high is longer than the brief intro of "rule the world" but is clearly influenced from it as well. just listen to all the specific elements I listed and you will see.
I remember buying this album on cassette while I was at UNC-Charlotte, it was a great album to study by for me. Its the way that they resolve to blues thru the entire song just in time to not make the song so predictable. You feel that this group had worked to finally find something really special in each others musical life. The YellowJackets really put it all on wax with this song, very touching and uplifting.
Oh Yeah, gotta say, still love this song as much as I did the first time I heard...way back yonder, in another space...another time - it's still as gorgeous of a ditty as ever!! :)
So that's who dose this song!! You know i was just looking around. and i just so happen to stumble apon this. Thank you Smoothworld01 you made my evening!
Can I please request "Tortoise and the HARE" off of "Politics"...Album version?

Anyone else sing along with the sax and practically break windows and eardrums trying to hit the high notes?

I had been looking for this song for 10 years, randomly checking the style of different groups on iTunes.
So many good memories associated with this piece, as it seemed to play like background music in my life when things were at their best.

Awesome compositional and arranging skills. This mob is very talented, The Rippintons could not help but be inspired by this level of musicianship.
