  • Great job with Blackbird! I think I like the Beatles mic placement best. I like that beefy sound! This video has been very helpful ! Thanks!

  • How would the last technique differ for a jazz guitar (with F-holes instead of soundholes)? Also, what are your input levels for the Samson C01U in System Preferences? Thanks so much for the videos; they've been super-helpful in my endeavor to create some demos with my band.

  • what mic is the best a small diafram mic or the CO1U

  • What chords are you playing?

  • Just excellent! Love the Beatles/PM references (tips)....

  • thanks for the video

    record analogggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg

. the digital sound doesn´t exist!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Hi! I love the beefy tone from the beatles mic placement, but can you use two mics to get an even better tone?

  • Great presentation & excellent tutorial. Thanks for sharing.

  • Great sound. What guitar are you using?

  • I want Rick Astley to be Rick Astlay!!

  • hey man , i was very impressed with the sound of this mic , for the price. My only question before buying it myself is... Would the quality of my laptop ( assuming your using a mac book ) have any effect on the sound ?

  • very informative.. thanks!!

  • for last song I recorded, I used the 3rd position, with my Samson C01 mic, and I think it sounds sweet, never used it before, you people should give it a try!!

here's the song if you want to check out /watch?v=4pPstecDrWc

  • what are u playing at 1:12 ? sounds really cool!

  • Great video man was looking for something like this for a long time, Explained everything really well!

  • Can you tell be how you get your guitar to sound that crisp and studio quality while your recording on video too? i cant seem to figure it out!

  • @TheofficialDana He most likely recorded the audio onto a computer recording program, and used that instead of the camera microphone.

  • you said that mic is not very directional so omni?

which mike pattern would be best for these? cardioid?

whats the frequency response on that mic you use? (generally)

do you know what kinda mic was used on the Beatles recordings?

and lastly sorry for all the questions lol but please respond and thank you for your time :D

  • Since when does Paul McCartney play the guitar on Abbey Road?

  • @Tweak54 Since when did you not know the first thing about the Beatles? McCartney not only played guitar & soloed on some of the most famous Beatles songs, he also played drums on some tunes... Oh ya, he played bass too..

  • @puppiesinspace Well, who would play tha bass if he was playing the guitar, during the Abbey Road recordings?

  • @Tweak54 John or George... Mostly Paul would overdub.

  • @Tweak54 they overdubbed it dumbass... it's not live

  • i loved the first position

  • Hello, I like your videos a lot. Do you have any video explaining how to record multiple tracks in GarageBand? I would like to use 2 microphones techniques (like your BIG room tip) but I do not know what gear or set up I need. Hope you can help me, thanks.

  • @iangsparky All you need is a 2 channel interface. I like the PreSonus Audiobox USB.

  • @GaragebandandBeyond Thanks a lot mate! Right now I am experimenting with a little RadioShack 4 channel mixer but I will check out the interface as I need one, does any kind of special set-up is needed to use it, or just by changing my sytem settings on my computer?

  • @GaragebandandBeyond interface and microphone usb? I preffer XLR sorry for my english

  • i like that song you are playing, what is it?

  • 12 inches out... that is all

  • wich song is it !!?:P

  • Comment removed

  • Why wont my garageband update? When it reachers 90% it says error blah blah

  • nice mic !!! wich song is it ! ?

  • thanks for this awsome demo.. i have this kind of mic and i'm having terrible time finding the right position for my desired kind of sound, but hey thanks to this i have a resource... hehe

  • Hello. I got this microphone. But I'm having hard time recording my songs on it. Hiss sounds are very annoying... Is there a setup that I should do to minimize it? and by the way, I love your demos. =)

  • @niqueablao I would try a new USB cable first.

  • Sorry i i ask a stupid qns... May i know if a speaker is necessary? is it for the guitar output? or the mic output?

  • @SonicXpress If you're talking about speakers to listen to your recordings on, then yes you NEED them. In the studio world we call them Monitors.

  • make a video on how to record lo-fi 60's guitar

  • You should get an HD Cam cuz you're really comical and cool!

  • 1st demo - 1:12 2nd demo - 2:54 3rd demo - 5:08

  • Damien Rice...ay xD. You're awesome. I'm starting with the idea of my own Home Studio... and you are helping me a lot.

  • How do you take that hissing sound in the backround ? I have that problem on mine. Please reply :)

  • @JYUkulele are you using garageband?

  • @SunshineSupermanPA Yup. i dont know if its the place im recording in or something else.

  • good stuff

  • does it need Phantom power'??

  • @TheMusicDude1997 no, its a usb microphone

  • Hey, i have a question, do you have the mic in Max level or what?? I really like this video 'cause , i've this mic and i prefer to made my own melodys with a real guitar, and this video save my life :D, please answer me ;D

  • could you please do a video on acoustic guitar tone?

  • I don't have a mac, would this mic work okay with audacity? thanks!

  • @irishgurlxo Yes it will work with any computer!

  • When I play the guitar and record with garageband with this microphone, I notice there is a little static or feedback noise. Is there a setting that will allow me to reduce that. I noticed in your video the static noise is at a bare minimum.

  • Thank you so much, this is one of the fewest tutorials that actually show the difference. Thanks!!

  • I have a problem with this mic when recording in garage band. It only picks up in the left speaker. Solution?

  • @imawiseman101 make sure that the input is set to mono.

  • Young man, I just discovered your videos and they are HUGE, methinks. , Keep going, please, thank you!

  • Actually you can record two tracks at once with GB, if your soundcard, (ADC converter setup) has multiple converters that work simultaneously. I have recorded 8 tracks at once on my ensemble, and before that 4 at once on my m-audio sound card. Currently eight is the max I can record. I don't even bother having Logic on my laptop anymore, with garageband being round. Regardless, you can stereo record, or even record a live drum set on garageband. If you have enough ram!!!!

  • what interface/preamp are you using?

  • love your stuff man... very amiable guy

  • hey mate, great vid!

just wondering, are you running the C01U straight into a usb port on your mac into garageband? or is it through any kind of interface?

    cheers

  • @spooky23boo It's running directly into the Mac. NO PRE AMP!

  • @spooky23boo It's running directly into the Mac. NO PRE AMP!

  • AWESOME

  • excellent demonstration. Thank you for making this. Less is more. I am reading george martin's book "All you need is ears" and he said (I cant remember the exact wording) but something like using less mics makes for a more natural sounding recording. Also he used to record an orchestra with one mic. Check it out on google books

  • connected to computer or macbook?

  • "something else that ends in AY" hahah now that's clever.

  • thanks for the info it was very helpful. on a side note though...anyone ever tell you you look like Styles from Teen Wolf?

  • Great video! You know your stuff :D

  • Thanks for sharing this. It's always good to get a few alternative mic placement ideas for acoustic guitar.

  • nice vid. however, why buy a usb mic? why not invest in a good audio interface and mic. a usb mic will only be so useful for a short time relative to xlr mics.

  • do you plug your usb mic directly into the usb hub or can you run it through a compressor, etc before?

  • mate whats the mic stand you use? please cud ya gimme a amazon link? :)

  • It's just a regular tripod boom mic stand. Nothing special

  • hey Lewin, thanks for the lesson.Your video on "Road to Spencer" was the first song i learned on mandolin, so thanks for that one too.

  • i really like the 3rd technique

  • good stuff you´r playing...

  • wow! real good!... can really hear the amazing acoustic sounds. great vid :D

  • Fantastic i've been looking for a microphone thats affordable for recording my acoustic stuff.

I mainly finger pick and have a shure SM57 but I can never get the warm sound I want, maybe this will do the trick.

  • Is it now the SAMSON C03U a better choice? Can it be used with other programs like protools? thanks for the review.

  • Hey man, love your vids, but you're wrong about only being able to record one track at a time on GarageBand. I've done two at a time, and I know you can do at least 8. That's what the "record" activate button is for on each track. This is definitely possible. Keep on rockin'.

  • thanks for the comment. can you tell me how you record multiple tracks at a time?

  • To record multiple tracks, just make sure that you assign a different input for each track first. If you choose the same input, only one track can record. Then, like Lemons said, make to record enable each track that will be recording. Note.....if you click on the track itself instead of just its record button, then it will enable that track and disable the recording function for all the other tracks.

Google.. "recording multiple tracks in garageband" and the first link will explain better.

  • Yes. Now, this is only possible if your interface has more than one channel. Plug one mic/instrument into one, plug your mic/instrument into the other. Make sure you have 2 basic tracks. In "Input" under "Track Info" select one channel for one, another for another. Make sure you activate the record button located under the track name on each track. On my version, they turn red. Then hit record, you should notice that each track is tracking.

If interested, I'll make a vid for you. If you want.

  • @GaragebandandBeyond it depends on your interface, however many inputs your interface has is how many tracks you can record. I max out at 16.

  • thanks bro, very useful : )

  • what was that first song or riff you were playing?

  • Hey Lewin - What's the best setup for when you want to capture acoustic guitar and vocals at the same time? Can you use one of these single mic setups, or is it best to use one of these for the guitar and place another vocal mic in front of your face?

  • What kind of mic are you using?

  • I have an SM-58 and a Zoom H4. I get really good results from the Zoom when recording acoustic stuff, but have wondered if it would be good to get something like the Samson or the other condenser mic you use.

  • I would say use the Zoom. Try it about 2-3ft away and lined up with your chin. You'll want to experiment with this position, but it is certainly doable. All the recordings for my duo "Footlooser" are done with one mic.

    Good luck!

  • Cool. That's the one I've been using, but I haven't been very methodical about placement. I'll try it there.

Thanks for the podcasts and the help!

  • I ended up getting a Behringer C-1 with a gift card I got for Christmas (Woo hoo!), so now I'm playing more with these actual mic setups.

Does turning the mic sideways like in the Beatles-type setup you demonstrate give you a different sound or would it be the same if you had the mic vertical and in front of the sound hole? I'm sure I could probably experiment and listen for a difference on my own, but what I'm really trying to understand is the mic pattern.

  • i just bought the mic. but for some reason it's not working..do i have to install anything before i use it? Please help me i would really appreciate it.

  • I tried downloading this GarageBand software but it says its only for MAC. :(.

  • hey love it, as a musician i use a sound studio but i'm thinking of doing it at home because it gives a good flexible life for me :) do you think you could a tutorial on controling EQ and how to get the best from it?

  • Well done. I can't get that kind of sound from my C01U, but I've beaten it pretty bad.

  • i have this microphone for my own music making, u might need to turn ur capture volume down a bit, if u have it at 100% its gonna distort and capture everythin to loud, i keep my capture volume at around 35%

  • Glad you enjoyed it. I would recommend looking on ebay for one. Go to "Advanced Search" and look for people shipping Internationally. I'm sure you can find one for cheap!

    Good luck

  • Nice techniques!

I want one C01U but is hard and expensive to find it here in Brazil =/
