yeah anyone can go there, just go ever longboat bridge make your 1st right turn and park then walk to the beach and make a right and go all the way around to the tip.. i grew up on that beach.. so many great memories there.. i miss it
this vid is so sad what has happened to the beach there recently, its all erroded and no access unless you go down sunshine st to the public access. Will they vote to dredge the sand?!
@Dari1213 ummm have u been there recently? I went last week and public access is closed. You are probably thinking about the main beach by the road. However, there has been loads of erosion and it does not look the same.
When my love and I first spent our first day discovering this gorgeous beach together, we didn't bring anything with us but our swimsuits, and we were parched after a day in the sun and saltwater...
I had to comment because your video was the first time I learned the true name!
Beer was gifted to us by a very generous couple toting a 48 pack of Bud Light passing by on the interior headed south.
Bud Light never tasted SO GOOD!
So that said, it will be easy for us to remember "Beer Can Island".
Great video.....It really hit home for me....I have spent many great days there.....by the way who does the song that was with the video....the artist and the title if you could shed some light for me....thanks again
I still have shells lining my driveway I collected from Beer Can Island in 1983. I lived on Anna Maria island for many years. I burned many a brain cell in The Stumble In and at The Anchorage.
hey this is my favorite place in the whole world we take our pontoon boat to the sand bar by jewfish then we go fishing the beer can oh was that smugglers cove mini golf
I was raised on Longboat Key from 1951 till mom sold the house in 1979. During that time, beer can island was sometimes an island and sometimes connected by a strip of sand. We learned how to water ski in the late '50's when there was a deep cove there, before beer can got its name when it split off during a storm. So, is it connected today or an island? Thanks.
i never wrote that??
