  • "get that on video holy shit"...lol!!!

  • @bigworld3001

Ya that was 2009 august fishing trip to Shearwater ( Bella Bella B.C.) We're also Kayaking the same area this summer. Cheers

  • @007frigger Hope you have more encounters this summer! Please post them if you do :>)

  • Great video! The tail slapping can be a good ro bad sign - either playfulness or anger which means when the slap the tail usually means back off, go away, this is my spot/territory but usually they travel but it can also be playfulness. Cant say for sure but still really neat to see that :D

  • BC? Where was this? You sound Canadian

  • @EvatheDiva00 It was @ Shearwater ( Bella Bella) B.C. There were 2 females & the bull. Yes they could have taken the salmon in a second. Summer 2009 on a fishing trip. We were going to release the fish( as we had already done 12 previously that day. Very luck day for us to interact with nature this way.

  • @EvatheDiva00 what gave it away? the Canadian flag on the boat??

  • @sentient001 haha i didnt even notice the flag until now. i just know of anywhere else with orcas that close to shore

  • @EvatheDiva00 All good, I was just bustin your balls lol

  • Seems like they were trying to help you out by killing your fish for you (heh). If they'd wanted to eat it themselves they would have just bitten it right in half (or swallowed it completely). Maybe they thought you were having a hard time getting it, and swum over to help. They hung around right until you took the fish out the water, and like I said, if they'd really wanted to take it they would have. Or, maybe they were just in a playful mood. the one slapping its tail certainly seemed it.

  • you were sooo lucky, some people pay good money to see orca in the wild and dont get half as close.

  • So cool, what an honor to actually witness that. Being on the boat an all.

  • What amazing footage!

  • Yea well in the moment we were so flabbergasted that no DNA or sex checks were done

  • That wasn't a he eating the fish, it was a she. Males have the larger fins, females smaller. A male orca's dorsal fin can grow up to 6 feet tall :)

  • It was actually both/either. There was definitely a big male in with the group, and the others could have either been females or juveniles of either sex (without them having rolled over you can't be sure).

  • That is amazing footage!! good job! they loved interacting with your fish? what was it? salmon? thats soooo cool - good job! always take your camera with u fishing!

  • WOW!!! :-D that really is awesome! when that huge fin comes towards the boat, your words were my thoughts exactly! (vid deserves way more hits) great video

  • That's so awesome! Great video!! =]

    That looks incredible.. good footage!

That bull orca was huge.. his dorsal fin must've been at least 5 feet tall!
