usually how much do they charge to crop a dogs ear, and how does one know if the vet is a good at it? because i just got a dobe few days ago. its my first time owning one so i am new to this, i had pets before. does any one have suggestion tips about a dobe?

I breed dobermans and had a bad experience with one vet cropping Apollos ears so ask to see pics first of others they have done. We paid $400 to have our males done. Thats is the norm make sure you get them done before they are too big

I'll settle for medium but in MY opinion i like them short the dobermans are ment to have their ears cropped to make them look sleek and elegent (unless for guarding purposes) not to make them look like a fucking rabbit. Pitbulls are cut too short they hardly even have ears and although lately i dont really mind i used to hate it. Ill admit that would look horrible on a dobe. But i havent seen any too short... yet.

Genetics 101

A red dobe is always dd (recessive). A black dobe can be DD or Dd. Each parent gives one of their collor genes to pups.

The crossing of a Red with a black will result in Dd or dd. Dd is black Dobe; dd will be a Red Dobe.

Beautiful Dobes. Hard to find a non-beautiful Dobe, IMHO. Just the same, crossing a Red with a Black will yield heterzygous pups--all Black if Daddy and Mommy are Homozygous. BB for daddy and mommy is clearly rr since she is red. In this breeding, pups will be Br (Black/tan (rust)...shades of color or more complicated. These pups will go on to reproduce either Black or Reds, depending.

There are a lot of Dobermans in this video that really look the way they were meant to look---powerful, muscular and not at all like the spindly-legged skinny creatures we see at American dog shows. These are working dogs designed to take down a full grown man in defense of their master. To accomplish that task the dog needs power and muscle. The average American show Doberman would have neither the strength nor the fighting spirit to mount an effective defense against an assailant.

German's Doberman is different than the American Doberman.

German Dobi is bigger, more build on the chess & more square on the jaw and tail is crop very short, usually the ear is also crop more square. Usually has dark mask.

American Dobi is slimmer, a little taller than the German's Dobi. The Jaw is usually longer & narrower. The head is slimmer & longer. The tail is usually croped couple inches longer than the German's and the Ear is usually cropped higher. Has slim & tall appearance.

difs are in the coat, muzzle and stop. euros are harder to come by and usually a bit more expensive, but people are full of shit. a dobe of euro lines is generally less 'intensively' excitable and displays discipline in it's thought processes - watch the mom, or dad... if they look like they think like a human, and stare through you and not at you its a euro. i got one, black/tan, german lines sine 8 weeks - now four - runt of the litter, 1500, schutzhund family, no papers.

It was done originally becuase they were security dogs and they could locate sound better with ears cropped and theyre tails are docked becuase they are long and weak and can be used as a weakness point by the attacker. But it does hurt the dog and i dont see any reason to do it if you dont need to.

It's true! Doberman's are sporting dogs the ear cropping and tail docking serve a purpose...mine has both and she's beautiful. The cropping is not as painful for the dog as you would think...
