  • Did this guy just have the nerve to tell me I need a camera to film a documentary? I don't believe him.

  • Would be nice, if you are talking about lighting, that you show us an example that is well lit and not two shots that are lit on a terrible way.

  • @jaapvw66 He gives more examples in the interviewing video. Btw, you're kinda rude. You didn't hire him to make this, this shit is free. Stop bitching.

  • thank you man!!

  • Are shotgun mics any good?

  • Just like the song iam an absalute beginner !

But ive had great desire to do a project like this for a long time so i was wondering if anyone could advise me on the best camera at the best price to purchase, something that will be compatable for all that i need in making a good quality documentary & ofcoarse remembering apart from watching YT & messing about with Windows Movie Maker IAM an Absalute Beginner !!

    Many Thanks in Advance !

  • Great Vid, thanks

  • yeah and u dont need editing software...

  • well this didnt help at all!

  • Hey dude, where can i buy the wireless mic???

  • @mrslowrawsquad ebay

  • Dont forget to bring a towel!

  • does flashlight do the work? ;D

  • Thanks

  • do u have to use a miniDV camcorder or cany you use a regular digital camcorder and burn it on to a dvd

  • @natestuff13 minidv is very good quality dont bother with anything else. The better quality tapes higher then minidv the cameras are for pro film and start at 100k. You can buy a cheap camera that shoots with minidv for £50 off ebay.

  • I am making a very low budget documentary, I use a creative Vado HD pocket camera for a camera, iMovie 09 for editing, iDVD 09 to make the DVD, and my iMacs built in mic for voice over stuff, plus my cameras built in mic for audio. The vado HD camera costs about $100, the iLife 09 suite costs about $80, but I already had both so my movie is costing me nothing. The DVD will be $8.00 and I will have a shorter, more cut version on YouTube.

  • @gtgidemgreen hows ur docu coming?

  • @nigel101 I finished it a long time ago (back in april 2010)

  • my camera i bought years ago before getting into highschool and taking tv production class

that being sed i didnt know about the importance of having a mic input

i dont have the money to just buy a new camera is there any other way to get good quality audio without a mic input?

  • Hey I'm fifteen and I live in south-east london england. I feel that there isn't anything for teenagers to do with film before their old enough to go film school. Add and message me if you agree and want to start a new group.

  • @Statistic100 I'm fifteen too and in America ha!

You can do anything with what you have. Just like this guy said- be as creative as you can with what you have.

I just read up a bunch on independent films and considering the fact that no real adult actor is going to want to listen to a fifteen year old director, documentaries are the way to go! It'll get your name out there when perhaps submitting a script to a production company :)

  • @Statistic100 wrongg

  • Thanks! I've wondered about what kind of microphone to use, and how exactly it works with interviews and live narration. So simple. You're great!!!

  • you'd be surprised at how many people dont look into lighting or separate audio

  • Where can I get those microphones that appear on this video at: 1:36 ? What are they called?

The clip on microphone, how do you spell the word? It sounds like "lav-a-lear", thanks.

What software would you recommend to compile film from a Sony HDR SR12e ? It is HDD. I am researching before I purchase.

    Thanks.

  • lavalier or lapel mic

  • Thanks a million kurtisloew :D

    Gentleman!

  • They are called condenser mics, just look for them on the web.

  • The Microphone at 1:36 is called a shotgun mic, they are used for film and video production avoid visible microphones in the shot. The fuzzy thing is a windscreen to reduce wind noise being picked up. During filming they are attached to a pole called a boom which is extended out above the source of the sound wanting to be recorded ie, actors. They will run you about $200 for a decent one. A boom can be made from a variety of things to reduce cost

  • really?!! i didn't know that making a documentary needs a camera! wow you're such an expert..

  • lol. dats wat i said in my head, lol

  • Well that was about as useful as a screen door on a submarine. What a waste of my time even to watch!

  • It's a bit hipocritical to say that this man repeats himself when you posted your comment twice.

This man is great, he has taut me so much.

  • I think it was a mistake but funny and ironic, nonetheless!
