  • He reminds me of my Dad. Who was from Davidson OK. His mother died. When he was 8 years old. and moved to California when he was 10. He past away in 2005. He was my Dads favorite actor also. They had a lot in common. Black hair dark eyes and kind of a smart Ass too.

  • My late mother would delight in telling the story how she stood there sipping tea with James Garner at the Shell Houston Open, circa late 70s. My mom was working as a fairway marshal and Garner struck up a conversation with her at a refreshment stand. He was a total gentleman but she marveled at how he enjoyed the adulation he got from his celebrity status.

  • Jimmy has to be the most natural actor ever to grace the little screen!!! The man has his feet planted on the ground ,a down to earth good guy!!!

  • Bring Garner back to play Rockford on the remake.

  • Fabulous talent. He had great looks and personality and from what I am hearing on this interview he is really a decent guy. Every movie or show he is in has been wonderful. We have the entire Rockford Files series on DVD. And I am working on getting all his movies on DVD.

  • He's a very smart and wise actor. His talk about learning to listen is very good and very relevant in everything.

  • Love James Garner he's a great star my favorite tv film he appeared in was Breathing Lessons opposite Joanne Woodward they worked very well together and are still friends now both of them were nominated for Golden Globes she won he lost and she also won a Sag award for her work where he wasn't even nominated

  • I could listen to James all day, what a nice man he is. Like most of the postings above Rockford was great, love it. Knew him better in Maverick the years Westerns were on TV nearly every day. Loved him in the comedies with Doris Day, they had a wonderful chemistry between them. Such talent he has.

  • Did we know...

James Garner- Merchant Seaman ww2, US Marine Korea-wounded and recieved Purple Heart.

  • James Garner is one of my favorite stars. I loved watching Rockford Files, still do. This is a great interview. I appreciate Jame's openness about his life. Thanks for posting this!

  • This is a really interesting interview. I'm a huge fan of James Garner from "Rockford Files". I saw a rerun of it last week while visiting my folks, and it was easily the best hour of t.v. I saw all week. Why can't we have more real t.v. like that? I've always liked James Garner in everything I've ever seen him in. Everyone likes him.

  • good interview

  • This guy, James Garner, had a real hot go in the Korean War. He scored three purple hearts; which means he put his backside on the line on at least three occasions, in military endeavours which did not contradict any commands of any senior officers, and did not hazard or compromise Allied strategy and personnel in any way, and duly advanced his own side's military situation; and in actions which were cross-referenced and countersigned by a sufficient number of qualified witnesses under oath.

  • I did not know that James Garner was a war heor.

Growing up watching Maverick on TV in Perth Australia in the late 50's and eraly 60's, Mavercik was my favourite show, like many of teh other cowboy shows. Thanls James. (ps. He did look like may father as well).

  • That's right, he was shot in the ass by his own people. Got a purple heart for it too...

  • i love james garner- JIM ROCKFORD RULES!!!!

  • He reminds me of my father. Who was from O.K. and lost his mother at a early age and move to calif because they had job out there. not a acting job, But driving a truck. My Dad had black hair and was born in 1928. the same as Mr. Garner

  • dcgj45, just wondering who would've given you a thumbs-down for your comment! Youtube idiots!

  • James Garner is the only actor I actually respect. Rockford Files still is a great show to watch and there couldn't be any better man for the part, so natural.

An all around cool guy and great driver!

  • Only one? Surely there's another couple out there.

  • His fan club is the only fan club I've ever joined. He's just so democratic and he's so wonderful in "Rockford Files" which I could watch forever and not get bored.

  • His "rockford files" tv show was a great show. Still great watching even today.

  • He is top shelf.

  • He's getting old but still awesome

  • He's a genuine man's man, nothing feminine about big Jim.

  • I really appreciated him, while growing up.

  • he's a real man! not the metro-sexual shemales of today

  • Comes across as a really pleasant man.

  • I love when he says, "oh I was tall and dark and looked the way I did." Jimmy...you were absolutely gorgeous!

  • Yeah saunders...tall dark and HANDSOME He is so modest!

  • He's still got it. What a hottie.

  • He's had a severe stroke now.

  • hey hey hey! "bumgarner" is/was his birth last name; you can't just cut it in half.

  • James was great, a real man. Not like the dorky dopes of today.

  • He IS a great man.

  • I'm old enough to remember him in the Maverick tv series. He was great then and great in the Rockford Files. My favorite Garner role was The Great Escape. Man was he good looking!

  • We need more stars like James Gardner. He's a man's man. Very few around anymore. I loved him in all of his movies, but my favorite was Murphy's Romance with Sally Fields.

  • Actually he's extreme left.

  • So?! He can't be a man's man and liberal?!

  • James Gardner?

  • He is awesome ;-)

  • James Garner is so good. One of the things that is so great about him is that he can play just about any role you throw his way. Comedy Drama anything.

  • Like everyone has said, he is one class act. I also loved watching the Rockford files, especially watching his car, the Firebird. It was always fun to watch the new season show because you could see the new model of the Firebird.

He was so good in "The Great Escape". He did his caracter so well. He was aslo so good in all his other movies, but the Great Escape was the best!

  • What a class act. He's so, I don't know, real and unpretentious. Rockford Files is one of my favorite shows ever, even when I was a kid.

  • I love this guy. I loved him in Rockford which was on when I was a kid but only got to see a few episodes. So ive been buying the dvds. My kids think he's cool too. Does anyone have a copy of his SAG life achievement award speech? I'd love to see it.

  • Hehe, "what was your question"... :D He's awesome. He's an okie. :D Me too.

  • James Garner is one of my very favorite actors. I've been a fan of his since the original Maverick days to now. He's a natural talent, and he can play almost any role. He deserves a lifetime achievement Oscar.

  • This is awsome thanks, I grew up as a young kid watching him in re runs of the Rockford Files in the early 80s, man that show was a classic and he made that show work.

  • he reminds me of me

  • A class act..a real Joe...thanks for posting.
