I think Kevin had the balls of throwing away his job cos he felt he was one of the dwarfs that were performing around in this "Majesty Show",not to mention the assholes in the balcony.I think Adam should have been more indulgent with Kev and with his punk roots.
In those days the Musicians Union would not allow mimed performances to backing tracks. So Adam had to go onto a studio the day before to record music to be mimed to the next day. These days session musicians are properly compensated to prevent such instances happening again.
They were such a great band,,dirk,,wow what an album...then stuart lost it....this is posted as live!..oh yeah..his fekin voice carries well with no microphone! and no guitar leads..pre recorded live just incase!..christ they used to be superb..never trust a man with egg on his face

That's not so uncommon. They record a live version, and then lip synch to it for the live performance.
If you separate all the different guitar sounds, there's no way Marco could play all the different parts in one performance. Heavy reverb, lead, rhythm, etc.
Also, listen to the background vocals on this compared to a lot of their live performances. This has a LOT more.
Trivia....I always loved the bass on king but only recently found out Kevin mooney only played on 4 of the 'Kings' tracks. (adam played the rest, though someone told me it was actually marco)???

Man was i a big fan of this band back then, i still know all the lyrics and i have even seen them play in Amsterdam in de Meervaart. Still the best concert iv ever been to. I remember there was a big group of "Antpeople" there from England.

Marco and Adam are great. def. from a live recording albeit lip-synced. I've never heard a studio recording (not that I've heard 'everything') with this version of Dog Eat Dog. It is similar to their Manchester '80 live performance, although not as fast. thanks for uploading it.
I heard an interview with Jake Burns (SLF) where he said that to satisfy Musicians Union rules you had to record a new version of your song to lip sync to on TOTP (he reckoned they took the sound engineer to the pub and used the single anyway!). Maybe the same was true for this performance. They probably did a live in the studio version earlier in the day to lip sync to.
This (music)had to have come from some live performance. Yes, Adam sucked at lipsync; but the speed/vocals/ad-libs are from no album tracks. By the way, Marco was/is the MOST under rated guitar of all time!

Yeah. The funny thing is, if you look closely at kevin at 2'05" during Antmusic, his bass guitar strap breaks, and he manages to keep it together for a little while but then obviously gets bored of trying to cover it, so he goes nuts. Yeah, he took it too far and ended up walking off, but if his strap HADN'T broken, would he have still smashed it up and walked??? Thats the million dollar question, and a great advert for straplocks!

This is how I love him , on stage performing and dancing his ass off. He has this look on his face on the earlier videos as if he is/was really nervous or unsure what to do next.

Bow wow wow were a complete Malcolm Mclaren ripoff of Adam and the Ants, after he lost out on the real thing. He recruited some of the original band while Adam went on to superstardom with this lineup, replacing Mooney with Merrick on the way.
As for bands with 2 drummers there was the 80's Techno-Punk band Sigue Sigue Sputnik with 2 drummers who said Adam and the Ants was their insperation for doing so.
Rge Ants used 2 drummers because they were inspired by the (albeit tarnished now) Glitter sound. The Glitterband had 2 drummers as a first - Tony Leonard and Pete Phipps.
Marco used Gerry Shephards silver, star guitar in the Appollo 9 video.
I remember watching this at the time (I was about 15). KM's antics were cringeworthy, but in retrospect he bloody rocks it. The attitude he gives it is pure sex.
Anna, Bow Wow Wow only had one drummer. a great drummer, an original Adam and the Ants drummer.. but as far as another band... ANTZINVASION an adam and the ants tribute band is the only one I know of. And - they were awesome.

Most of their hits were written by Kevin? I'm not dissing Kevin but I don't think that's even close to being the truth. As I look at a list of thier hits all I see under written by is "Ant/Pirroni". Adam recorded some of Kevin's songs much later on.
I LOVE Adam Ant. Always have. One of a kind talent, he is. Way ahead of his time. As far as his being 'mentally ill'.....in this day and age, you ARE mentally ill if you AREN"T "mentally Ill'...........think I'll go out after I am finished writing this and buy MORE of his music..........
Did you guys know that Adam suffers from mental illness? There was a documentary produced by the BBC called ADAM, profiling him with his illness and I heard that it was the most wached BBC documentary of all time. Though I have been unable to find it using the web. Also, for everyone outisde of Britian, Adam put out this excellent album called Wonderful in 1995 or 1998 and the record company refused to distribute it outside of England. It's a great record. Get it if you can.
Some of you may already know that this is the last performance that Bass player Kevin Mooney ever performed with the Ants. Watch the video and you'll see why. There's a story here that has only partially been told...
Long before hosts of "boy bands" danced "in sync," Adam Ant was shakin' what his mother gave him. What an amazingly athletic dancer!!! LONG LIVE ADAM ANT!!!
This is the best live Ant performance I have ever seen. It sounds like they created alternate, "live" versions of these songs for this performance, and maybe lip-synched to those (?). These versions have so much energy! Recording equipment from 1981 never did their live performances any justice.
From what I remember, Kev's strap broke and mixed with his Punk "sell out" feelings about appearing on the Royal Variety Performance, he decided to "swing the bass about a bit" and then chuck it on the floor just for good measure to show it wasn't live. I remember seeing Adam mouthing "What did you do that for?" at the end and then after the show, he fired him. Cheers, haven't seen that for 26 years!!
According to Adam the bass player Kevin seemed unwilling to perform in front of the queen due to his anti-establshment belief & punk attitude. Cool thing
I don't know the context, maybe Adam had done something to provoke him, but it seems like Kevin Mooney was being very unprofessional and detracting from the performance. What's really weird is to see Kevin lay down his bass, then Adam glaring at him at the end, and then that game show style music, and their final bows. A really strange sequence -- and very enjoyable to watch!

Kevin was fantastic in this clip, this was amazing. This is by far the greatest performance I've ever seen. Why would Adam have hated Kevin for it?
I guess it's because it came as a 'surprise', the last thing you want in a live show is an unrehearsed surprise.

This is how I love him , on stage performing and dancing his ass off. He has this look on his face on the earlier videos as if he is/was really nervous or unsure what to do next.
That must have been a really hard song to get through live, it's so fast and wordy. I know he was lip synching here but in concert he didnt miss a not. and the sweat that poured from him...

Bow wow wow were a complete Malcolm Mclaren ripoff of Adam and the Ants, after he lost out on the real thing. He recruited some of the original band while Adam went on to superstardom with this lineup, replacing Mooney with Merrick on the way.
Still adore Adam though <3

As for bands with 2 drummers there was the 80's Techno-Punk band Sigue Sigue Sputnik with 2 drummers who said Adam and the Ants was their insperation for doing so.

Rge Ants used 2 drummers because they were inspired by the (albeit tarnished now) Glitter sound. The Glitterband had 2 drummers as a first - Tony Leonard and Pete Phipps.
Marco used Gerry Shephards silver, star guitar in the Appollo 9 video.

Anna, Bow Wow Wow only had one drummer. a great drummer, an original Adam and the Ants drummer.. but as far as another band... ANTZINVASION an adam and the ants tribute band is the only one I know of. And - they were awesome.

I do believe that after this peformance kevin moony quit the band as he thought the band was going to pop doing soppy gigs for tv etc. etc, as you can tell he was pissed off and just had enough by the looks of him...

and as far as Adam sleeping around, I didn't get the impression of what I read of his past that he cheated on his wife but when single superchick2 ,yes , he was a very busy man with the ladies. I know I read somewhere that he did know his wife was unfaithfull and it hurt him.but If she was unfaithfull to adam ,why would you say poor carol/eve?

Most of their hits were written by Kevin? I'm not dissing Kevin but I don't think that's even close to being the truth. As I look at a list of thier hits all I see under written by is "Ant/Pirroni". Adam recorded some of Kevin's songs much later on.

Did you guys know that Adam suffers from mental illness? There was a documentary produced by the BBC called ADAM, profiling him with his illness and I heard that it was the most wached BBC documentary of all time. Though I have been unable to find it using the web. Also, for everyone outisde of Britian, Adam put out this excellent album called Wonderful in 1995 or 1998 and the record company refused to distribute it outside of England. It's a great record. Get it if you can.

"Antmusic" was Adam & The Ants first and biggest single in Australia, spending 5 weeks at number one in 1981.
Dog Eat Dog was the follow up, but not as successful. Still a good song though.

This is the best live Ant performance I have ever seen. It sounds like they created alternate, "live" versions of these songs for this performance, and maybe lip-synched to those (?). These versions have so much energy! Recording equipment from 1981 never did their live performances any justice.

I love how Mooney put down the bass and mocked the whole "lip synching" thing though I understand you do it for technical reasons.
It added a very dramatic ending to the whole thing.
Adam and the ants could never be commericialized that's why the game show music seems so out of place.

From what I remember, Kev's strap broke and mixed with his Punk "sell out" feelings about appearing on the Royal Variety Performance, he decided to "swing the bass about a bit" and then chuck it on the floor just for good measure to show it wasn't live. I remember seeing Adam mouthing "What did you do that for?" at the end and then after the show, he fired him. Cheers, haven't seen that for 26 years!!

I don't know the context, maybe Adam had done something to provoke him, but it seems like Kevin Mooney was being very unprofessional and detracting from the performance. What's really weird is to see Kevin lay down his bass, then Adam glaring at him at the end, and then that game show style music, and their final bows. A really strange sequence -- and very enjoyable to watch!
