@givebirthathome Also it should be noted that this should NOT instill fear or anger towards the citizens of China. Rather it should instill fear/anger towards the government of China which is an undisputed one party system (which creates a distance between citizens/culture and government).
Personally, I do not have a problem with Chinese people. In fact I have many Chinese friends. I do, however, have a problem with the Chinese government (which is more authoritarian than it is "communist").
interesting point @giverbirthathome. I believe we should give attention to both because I do not think that worthiness of attention should be based on whether it is negative or positive. Rather it should be based on impact on society and the people.
This clip is worthy of attention because it had a huge impact on society and the people. This resulted in China becoming a two-part system: Capitalist Economics and "Communist" Politics.
@HZSimon Maybe "authoritarian bastards".. To the extent the protests were about abuses of the system by a new elite, it was more by the betrayal of socialist ideals than wanting to copy the U.S.
n June 1989 in China. People and students to fight for democracy and freedom. Against the dictatorship and corruption and dictatorship. Has been the Government to draw large numbers of troops and military vehicles and tanks, machine guns, killing unarmed people and students. Resulted in a large number of students and innocent civilians were massacred. manufacture of bloodshed that shocked the world in June. The Government lied no casualties and missing.
Given the complete news block out of the Tiananmen massacre, in China since '89 there is an entire generation in China that know nothing. Not only should CBS and other foreign media commemorate this tragic event every year, but also seek to archive it and come out with Chinese translation so that this and the next generation can review it. You notice CBS said nothing in this video. The real footage and sound did all the talking.
I wonder how often CBS covers positive or neutral Chinese stories? In what useful way does this inform American people? Is it disproportionate to the attention paid to other government repression going on at the same time?
Should we use our limited learning time to look for the positive things we can learn from other cultures and/or help them, or promoting anger and fear towards them?
the same government that committed this atrocity is in power today. let that sink in.
