Hey guys, come on... This is a great movie and we all root for William Wallace and the Scots because they are portrayed with sympathy in the movie. However, this movie is about as accurate on history as Star Trek is about the future. We can all speculate as to what kind of person William Wallace was or Edward I was, but two points: A) We don't know and B) who are we to judge?

@jimbot1980 The first war of Scottish independence and the basic outline of Wallace's life was portrayed fairly accurately,it was Wallace's personal life that was portrayed inaccurately. Also, Scotland was under the harsh rule England and the Scottish people were being oppressed(and even killed for disobedience)by the English. Wallace fought for the freedom of his people so they could live as free men and prosper, while Edward fought to subjugate the Scottish people. Wallace was the better man.
