I am very pleased to say that Persona 4 The Animation has greatly surpassed my expectations. The writing is excellent, and although it seemed rushed at first (And occasionally rushed later on), it definitely captures the essence and fun of the game. Only 7 episodes in, and already I can tell this series is a pure gem.

Both of you arguing are entitled to your opinions but I think you're both spastics. I personally preferred P3F to P4 as the P3 world had a darker atmosphere and dealt more with life and death whereas P4 was a little more lighthearted - however it was also -hilarious-, and the gameplay mechanics were refined considerably. Both games are excellent in their own right, to say anything more is really more down to individual preference.

I can't wait for this to be released. I'm hoping they'll have a dub of it too with the official voices in the game. That'd be kind of sad if they don't. It really wouldn't feel like I'd be watching an anime of Persona 4 as much as it would with them. Anyways, looks awesome! :)

The animation studio that worked on "Catherine" was Studio 4C, which hasn't produced anything really noteworthy. "Persona 4 the Animation," however, is being done by AIC ASTA, so it should be good.

I don't recall any recent works done by AIC ASTA in particular, but in general, AIC's adaptations have great (or at least good) animation quality and artwork that's very close to the source material. Recent examples include "Ore no Imouto," "Amagami SS," "Asobi ni Iku yo," "Wandering Son," and so on.

Though it's kinda harsh to call the cutscenes "shitty", Shingenori Soejima is probably one of the most original anime artists i've seen.

Soejima's still artwork is good, but the animation quality in the game cutscenes are blatantly lack-luster- the characters and scenes are stiff, frequently off model, and at certain points you can actually count the frames.

That quality is passable in brief scenes in a videogame, but if I saw an entire series animated like that, I would be sad.

Screen resolution determines display but not animation quality.

I have his artbook and the stills are really beautiful but the cutscenes as you said, i could almost count the freames at times. But it's been 2 years =), Catherine's cutscenes seemed to have somewhate improved to we can pretty much take those cutscenes as an analogue.

@cupidonsarecreepy the funny thing is that the cutscenes from persona 3 were much longer and had higher quality (except for the true ending sequence where mitsuru moved like a fucking puppet). i guess there were some budget issues.

but i think the actual anime will be on modern standards.

I do understand there decision to make Persona 4's story into an

anime,I agree it works much better for animation and is not as generic
