  • did along time i don't eat bicuits !

  • But I don't have a food processor.....:o(

  • @Emdooey Neither did most women through most of history. :) Use a pastry blender, or two knives, or break up the butter lightly with your fingers.

  • OOpps ... sorry for the type ! I meant: ''how thick they patted their dough before baking''

  • Wonderful technique ... you do it the way it should be done :-) I used to work in a senior's care facility and the kitchen staff made the most incredible biscuits ! Their biscuits were fluffy and rose much more than mine ever did during baking, and I was wondering how think they patted the dough before baking ... it must have been over 3/4 of an inch. I never overworked my dough, but my biscuits never rose over 2 inches think. Have any suggestions for me ? Thanks :-)

  • @Violette1755 What kind of baking powder are you using? Try using Clabber Girl, it reall can make a difference. Also you can use self-rising flour. Some people swear that using a sharp-edged cutter will make them rise more as using a glass can seal the edges a bit. But these here look good.

  • you're awesome. i like how you baked.

  • @trina8893 Thank you! I am happy you like this! Thanks for stopping by!

  • can u put cheese in this recipe????

  • @vivalulious Probably! What a good idea. Some grated cheese would make these great!

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH! Made these today and they are beautiful and so delicious. Better than anything from the store. I would even say they are foolproof since I think I may have pulsed the flour too much and they are still fluffy. Love your channel and thank you again!

  • @tigesita You are very welcome! Thank you for giving them a try and letting me know. I am very happy these worked for you. Have a great New Year!

  • can u just tel me a substitute of butter milk?

  • @l3ad3r1 milk + 1 teaspoon (5ml) of white vinegar or lemon juice i just made it today with it but i didnt have lemon juice nor white vinegar so i used rice vinegar its yummy!

  • @l3ad3r1 You will find a video on how to make this. I add 1 TBS white vinegar or lemon juice to whole milk. Let it sit for five minutes and it is ready. Thank you!

  • @pastryparrot1 ohh thank u So much... :) was on vacation so cudn,'nt able to reply u thnks u :) ill soon make this cookies... Luv u

  • These look delicious my friend :-)

  • @richardpeej Thank you Richard! I hope you are well! Merry Christmas.

  • I MADE THESE BISCUITS TODAY AND THEIR BEAUTIFUL.....THANKS FOR THE VID

  • @eitoobmiz Great! Thank you so much for letting me know. I am happy these worked for you!

  • Lady! You are the first person on YouTube that I have seen that makes biscuits RIGHT!!!!! Personally, I have always hated bisuits, but a friend of mine LOVES them and he has no idea how to cook, so I decided to learn how to make them. After reading all sorts of cookbooks and how-to's, I started watching these videos to see the technique. Kudos!

  • @bakaboy2000 I have no idea how I missed your comment! So, so sorry! Thank you very much for this! I appreciate it. I hope you have a fabulous 2012!

  • @KissHope LOL IKR but at least her biscuits were well put together. And would you answer me this if RosePetals looked just them, then why didnt i correct her and im not being negative im speaking the truth and why are you still writing back to me when i wasnt even talking to you to begin with. "Geeze go have a biscuit and relax"? REALLY? im a a teen i would never say something like that in my entire life

  • @KissHope My mom is a baker and everytime she makes biscuits she KNEADS and she brushes the top with the egg and milk mixture. and either way why do you care how many i make because the last time i checked i wasnt even talking to you

  • Thank you very much for this video. It is beautiful of you to share your gifts/talents with us :)

  • @Najah971 You are very welcome! Thank you so much for coming by

  • I dont care what other people say im going by what i think i think those biscuits look dry and they were definately not put together why? Because you didnt knead maybe you treated your dough with too much love

  • @chumboy87

LOL and the biscuits on another channel that you looked at were better looking? They were almost exact texture on top and both "dry" looking as you say. While the other person folded her dough over a couple times on the video the person her likely did as well without showing, that is not kneading dough. You just didn't like Maryann's video and wanted to be negative because Rose Petals looks just like them. LOL Geeze go have a biscuit and relax.

  • Those biscuits do not look good at all any normal person would knead the dough that wouldnt make it tough and they look dry because you didnt brush the top with a milk and egg mixture

  • @chumboy87 Thank you for coming by. These biscuits are actually perfect. They are flaky and moist. Rather than base your opinion on looks how about you read the comments of people who actually made these. Have a great week.

  • @chumboy87

Actually most home cooks do not brush with milk and egg, I have seen that done with scones. The mixture would not add moisture anyway only enable browning and typically it is one or the other. Also biscuit dough is not kneaded like bread unless you want a tougher texture, the idea is not to develope gluten as you do in bread. Maybe try the recipe and brush butter on to add to a softer top. Btw how many biscuits have you made?

  • @chumboy87 I think they do that in the north. ;) A little melted lard on top is all you need. (And in the biscuits, instead of butter if you wanna be really authentic about it but most people use crisco nowadays.)

  • What kind of brand flour did u used? It is all purpose or self rising

  • @mzhang91 It is not self rising flour. You need plain white all purpose flour for this. Thank you for coming by!

  • These aren't too far off a recipe from making scones.

Main additions are just egg and sugar.

  • @LarryBundyJr Thank you! I appreciate you coming by!

  • @pastryparrot1 No problemmo, We can't get biscuits in the UK, no supermarkets sell them (not even "make your own" kits) fast food chains like McDonalds and KFC don't either, so I have to make them myself :(

Buttermilk is a bit of a nightmare to get here too, I've substituted it with regular milk and it's come out fine!

  • @LarryBundyJr That's interesting about how rare these kind of biscuits are in the UK. Almost every corner dinner and restaurant in the US has.biscuits or biscuits and gravy in the morning.

  • IT REALLY WORKS! My daughter and I made them and they turned out flakey and delish. I tried when I was young without any luck. My luck has changed thanks to Maryann.

  • @simmplymusical Yay! I am so happy to hear these worked out for you! Thank you very much for letting me know!

  • Looks good Maryann! Ty for the demo!

  • @kokonutbaby1 You are welcome! Thank you for coming by!

  • you cut the bistcuts just how my mom cuts dough for donuts!!!

  • @xxoreoxcookiexlover Great! Thanks for coming by!

  • at the beginning "oh, who doesn't like those?" - you look and sound exactly like roseanne, I want you

  • @GlassPike Thank you for coming by and watching!

  • @GlassPike what do you mean ''want you''

  • This helped. But except the buttermilk part :/

  • @bobysoad666 I am glad this helped. I have a video on buttermilk substitute that is short and works great. Thanks for coming by!

  • @pastryparrot1 Thankyou mam. Your a good baker :) My buiscuits turned out to be great, by following your steps. Thanks alot. At the end I did figure out the buttermilk part.

  • @bobysoad666 Awesome!

  • OMG, imagine working on a farm and making all the ingredients from scratch! O_O Thank God for Walmart & Kroger! <3 ^_^ <3

  • @AnimeGirl1723 Haha! Yes, thank God! Thanks for coming by!

  • Made them today! :) came out great, thanks for sharing!

  • @AllisonG12386 YAY! I am happy to hear this! Thanks for letting me know!

  • @AColorGray

If you are like me I don't drink buttermilk so unless I know a head of time I am making something with it's never on hand. What I do use is a product that is dried powder form buttermilk the brand is Sasco and can be found in your baking isle. It actually has cream in it unlike buttermilk that uses skim milk so your baked product comes out even better tasting. I swear by this stuff. They have a site online at sascofood. Just make sure you refridgerate after opening

  • @KissHope YUP SASCO is what I use all the time. Just finished making biscuits with it

  • @brownnbubblie

Have you visited their website? Has some awesome recipes and many blue ribbon winners. Sasco also makes other products but I haven't tried them yet. Try a couple tablespoons in your dry cake mix next time you make one, you won't believe the texture and the taste.

  • @KissHope I will go there, thanks for the information

  • I am going to bake this recipe on a family vacation. There will be plenty of people there to try them out. I will report the out come when I return. Thanks for sharing this!!!

  • @twistedtoysnec Great! I hope they come out perfect! Please do let me know how they come out! Have a fantastic vacation!

  • No, these bisquits are not done right. It is obvious that they will crumble in your hand, not light and flaky. I lived up North for awhile and this is how they make bisquits. WRONG. There are a lot of recipes on youtube for Southern bisquits. Check one of those out. If you think these are good you don't know what you're missing.

  • @christschool Have you actually made these? If not please do and then comment. These biscuits are actually very light and flaky as thousands of people who actually have made them can attest. At any rate, thank you for coming by and watching. Happy Easter.

  • @AColorGray YAY! That is great! Thanks for letting me know!

  • @AColorGray Check out my video on making buttermilk substitute. It is super easy to make and your biscuits will come out better. I don't recommend only milk as the acidity in the buttermilk will make these rise better. Thanks for coming by!

  • Man, This is the best biscuit recipe I have ever found, the flakes melt in your mouth, I have made them three times now, and I have never made home made biscuits before, always store bought. But thanks to her I will never buy a store bought buiscuit in a can again! You have to check out this nice ladies recipie for biscuits and gravy, I made them at work and now I am the man! Now I will impress my wife and cook her a nice batch! This lady needs to be on T.V.

  • @t10bravo Thank you so much for your comment! That was nice. I am very happy that these worked for you. Very happy!

  • I am learning to cook in bulk , If I were to make this double or triple, Would you suggest they be cooked and frozen or the dough cut and frozen ?

  • @SasyBecause I would definitely cook them first. Thank you for coming by!

  • Hi there.... at what point and how much should I add cinnimon and raisins

if I were to add them?

  • @DoshUnScripted I don't know what the weight if the raisins would do to the rising of your biscuits. However, if you were to ass them I would add 1 tsp. cinnamon to the flour and process it with the butter. The raisins would have to be folded into the dough before you spread it out to cut them. I would be curious to know how that works out for you if you give it a try. Have an amazing week!

  • @pastryparrot1

Oh My, That sound like a chanllenge.., hmmmm .... im GIDDY!

I guess Ill have to try it now !

    (misty eyes).

  • @DoshUnScripted Haha! Good luck!

  • FINALLY A GOOD BISCUIT VIDEO!! THANKS SO MUCH

  • @acebpd You are so welcome! Thank you for watching.

  • Sausage fingers!

  • @justdoingbussness sausage winny

  • Hi, I loved your biscuits, I have seen some other recipes, and I noticed that you used buttermilk rather than normal milk (opposite to other recipes)...

Perhaps a silly question... but would you please explain why you prefer to use buttermilk? Thank you!!

  • @CTAWorshipper Thank you very much for coming by! I like using buttermilk because it gives the biscuits a special tang. It also, I find, makes them more tender. Have a happy Sunday!

  • @pastryparrot1 Thank you so much!!! You too have a great day.

  • @CTAWorshipper One more thing! The acid in the buttermilk helps with the rising as well! Take care!

  • @CTAWorshipper Um, most recipes use buttermilk; hence the name "buttermilk biscuits".

  • @CTAWorshipper ... actually, most southerners use buttermilk.

  • ghetto biscuits lol. they look awesome

  • @eezenwa Thank you! Have a great day!

  • Thank you so much...these are great.

  • @stinkingdog101 You are welcome! I am happy you like them! Thanks for coming by!

  • I love your biscuits! =]

  • @chazoh27 Thank you!

  • Is it necessary to bake the biscuit at 450F vs 350F as in other biscuit recipes?

Does the temperature has anything to do with making the biscuit flakier? Thanks

  • @puggychu I do not know if the hotter temperature renders a flakier biscuit. I do know that 350 degrees will not work for this recipe. I made a mistake on one of my printed recipes and got a very upset - rightfully so - viewer who let me know that her biscuits took forever to cook and were ruined. So please keep with the higher temp when making these. Thanks for coming by!

  • had to use the buttermilk sub(w/vinegar) but came out very good! thanks!

next time i add the cheese & garlic butter

  • @xxdjcharlierockxx Yes! I am happy these worked out for you. Take care!

  • I made these and used butter crisco...they tasted very salty

  • @bowler8 Sorry to hear that. I hope you have a fantastic 2011!

  • * Hi ! I Was Wondering , Would It Make A Difference If I Used Regular Milk Instead Of Buttermilk ? I'm Pretty Sure It Would But I'm Just Making Sure ! =)

  • @ThatKitten Hello! The acidity in the buttermilk will actually help these rise more and get puffier. If you don't have buttermilk simply add 1 TBS vinegar or lemon juice to your whole milk. I have a video called buttermilk substitute that could help. Thanks for coming by!

  • @pastryparrot1 Okay ! Thanks A Lot I'll Keep That In Mind & Go Check Out Your Video =] Thanks Again !

  • @ThatKitten If you use milk instead of buttermilk, just don't add the baking SODA. You won't need the extra acid from the soda if not using sour milk.

  • Hi. Great vid. I love these biscuits.

  • @ChaChaDave Thanks Cha Cha!

  • I JUST TRIED THIS RECIPE...IT WAS WAY TOO SALTY. I CUT DOWN THE SALT TO JUST 1 tsp AND THEY ARE GREAT NOW! TY FOR THE RECIPE!

  • @SALESVIDEOHELPER Thank you for coming by and trying them out. Take care!

  • @SALESVIDEOHELPER I THINK YOUR CAPS LOCK IS BROKEN!

  • Love the video . I'm going to try this recipe!

  • @heavensgardenoutlet YES! I know you will love these! Thanks for coming by!

  • I tried this and my biscuits were awesome!

  • @214jcf YES! Thanks for letting me know! I love when things come out awesome! Have a great week!

  • Just tried these they turned out great thank you for sharing this recipe

  • YAY! I am so happy they worked out!

  • Who do I contact to get a free sample sent to me?

  • That would be great, huh? Have a wonderful day and thanks for coming by!

  • These look wonderful! Can I make these the day before serving or is it best to make them and eat them the same day?

    Thanks for sharing!

  • These biscuits are at their best the day you make them. They will be OK the next day. Store them in an airtight container. However, if you can make them that day I would highly recommend it! Merry Christmas!

  • I have been searching and searching on a simpler way to make biscuits. All the other recipes aren't clear on what to do. And not using a roller is extra sweet for me. Thank you so much...

  • My pleasure! These are delicious!

  • You have been cooking up a storm! You should try out for the TV Food Network Star!! Really!!

  • I did last year and didn't get the time of day! Thanks though!

  • Now those are biscuits..Just give me some honey butter and I will be all set.

  • Thanks for coming by!

  • Wow! Those look absolutely delicious!!! :)

  • Thanks!

  • Oh man, these look awesome. I may just make these instead of buying a package of regular dinner rolls at my next gathering haha!

Question -- I've heard you can substitute 1 cup of regular milk and 1 tablespoon of lemon juice for 1 cup of buttermilk if you don't have buttermilk. Do you think that'll be alright? Oddly enough, my local grocery stores don't have buttermilk.

  • Hi Fez!

OK, what you need to do is put 1 tablespoon lemon juice or white vinegar into a measuring cup. Then you add the milk until it reaches 1 cup - so you need a little less than one cup milk. Let it stand for 5 minutes and then use it. That should do the trick! Have a wonderful day!

    Mary Ann

  • It appears that my first reply did not go through! I hate when that happens! Anyway, go ahead and place 1 tablespoon white vinegar or lemon juice in a measuring cup. Add enough milk to reach 1 cup - so you need a little less than a cup of milk. Let it stand for 5 minutes and then use it. This should do the trick! Have a wonderful day!

  • Both your replies went through, but that's twice as good! Thanks so much for the clarification, you're an excellent teacher.

  • These look very nice :) I love when my biscuits turn out tall like that. They do look nice and flaky. Nice video.

  • Thanks :)

  • 10 stars ! thank you .

  • No, thank YOU for watching!

  • That really looked good. I Like it.

    Thank you Mary Anne

  • You are welcome my friend! Hope all is well!

  • so far i guess. Just spent 14 hours at work.

  • Thanks so much- these are the bessstttttt :)

  • My pleasure! I love these - unfortunately for my waist line!

  • Looks scrumptious!!

  • Thanks!

  • they look delicious...

  • Thanks!

  • Thank you, I like it.
