I really would like more on your guy moving by the oscilating fan. I tried it and I cant seem to make him light enough that it make the fan stop moving, dont want to burn motor up. Can yo help?
its actually kind of hard and doesn't work real well. we removed the wood blades but not the part that attaches to the rotating part of the fan(only because the tree we had it hung in had screwy branches that hindered the rotation). other wise you just need to equal the weight on all three other blades. cut a hole in the end of one blade and use very heavy gauge fishing line. put wood fence boards cut up on the other blades and use a hanging demon guy(we got ours at walgreens $15-$20).
we gave up on it this year in favor of other stuff. it just broke down too often and didn't rotate well in the wind and as you know living in this region the wind can come at any moment. this also happened to the flying ghost above everyone's head on the zip line. wind knocked it down on top of kids on halloween night so no more of that either.
check out this year video. it will posted thursday night (but a version with actors on halloween night will be on later saturday night or sunday.
yes we are. we have very high winds today and tomorrow so our yard haunt is currently closed for repairs and some of the ghosts are in hiding. We will hopefully post a new video by tuesday night
where is your yard haunt?? and please send me a link of yours so i can see it. feel free to ask any questions on how i did my stuff and i may ask some from yours.
I actually used small gear reduction motors that are about 32rpms. I got the motors from my work(printing presses). All our decorations are handmade or the things that move the store bought decor are hand made. We spend much of sepetmeber and Oct putting it all together, then starts christmas decor!!
If you have any questions, just ask and I can probably guide you through it
We have many new things this year.. the video of the 2008 haunt will be up by monday or tuesday, so check back.
Awesome! How did you control the moving parts, was there a small motor you attached to it or did the device come with the decoration? Get something like that at radio shack? I am impressed and motivated to make my haunt better this year!
We are almost finished with the 2008 version of the yard. stuff has moved, changed and several new additions. PLEASE COME BY. The haunt will be active 26th-2nd of 2008 this year. Tell your friends. 74th & Thorburn St. Portland, OR
I know where you are, we drove past your display a number of times and thought it was wonderful! Thank you for the close-up, we may put ours on next year.
We also made the Southeast Examiner Paper front page with our Christmas display this year as well. over 7000 lights!!! Unfortunatly we are moving this spring as this house is VERY old (1904) and we can not have children in this house and we want to start. We will leave a comment on here when we do move and have the room for next years display.
thanks for coming by, we did have actors in the yard on halloween as well it was a blast.
2009's haunt is up and running!!! come by Saturday night and let us know you saw it on youtube!!!. we'll post the non actor version of the haunt on thursday and the actor version late saturday night or sunday morning
My hubby and I did some deco too. I love that your props move, we hope next year we can get more stuff and things that move (it's our first) I love the skeleton trying to lose weight. You should check out mine. Cool yard.
are you in portland?? how did your night go last night. we had around 100 kids and adults. We had three actors in the yard, with chainsaws and knives, and spooking the kids. it was very fun. We are moving next spring so we'll see if we do it at our house next year or at a friends in portland as well.
Nope, I'm in Alberta Canada. We had around 125 kids with adults (too many middle schoolers if you asked me so they got 1 piece of candy). My husband was dressed as Jason and the parents dug it more than the kids. They're getting harder to scare each year. Next year we're hoping to do something better and have my brother in law & his girlfriend help us scare the kids. We're doing it in my backyard cause people can go around the back.
nice nice, yeah we had a few of those "you can't scare me" kids, but they sure ran when i chased them out of the yard with a chainsaw.... We had to hand out 2 pieces per kid or we would have ran out quickly.
well next year take a video of your haunt and put it up on here and hopefully we'll find both of ours again

One of those 'you can't scare me kids' was actually me. Your layout was well designed and you scared the living daylights out of me!
