  • I love it when my mom makes this!

  • I like you, you are so cute^.^

  • @Maangchi I looked up Cornish hen on Wikipedia and it is indeed a type of smaller chicken (weighing no more than 2 pounds maximum) :)

  • spicy?

  • maangchi when ever i lost my appetite, i watch ur videos... love u maangchi, u r the best.. frm manipur(india)

  • the recipe is good! and i've watched many variety shows and they seem to always put a very spiky stem/branch in the soup to boil too...do you happen to know what that is?

  • thank you,,, and bless you ill try it

  • I so love this dish and I make it all the time during the winter time. When flu season and everyone is getting sick. I never do. I believe that ginseng does boost the immune system into power drive and thins the blood for better circulation of oxygen and vitamins and minerals. I love this dish one of my favorite to make for family.

  • @sweatonme1 I'm glad to hear that you love this soup! Happy cooking!

  • What did you do with the rest of the soaked sweet rice?!?

  • why americans say always "taste like chicken"

  • What are those black hot over the stove soup bowls called? I want to buy them for my home. :)

  • @GracePrincess81 Earthenware bowl called ttukbaegi in Korean. You can get it at a Korean grocery store. Check out the photo on my website if you want. (Kitchenware section)

  • Thank you for the beautiful sam gye tang video.

Could you or anyone else here please tell us if this is 6 year old Korean Ginseng, cooling Ginseng or warming Ginseng?

    Thank you!

  • I HATE THIS STUPID GINSENG, IT TASTES REALLY AWFUL!

  • This looks a lot like a Chinese Chicken soup I made last winter. I had goji berries in mine as well. I like this version with a Cornish hen. Kamsahamnida!

  • i had this in korea early this month. it was yummy! though i had to put alot of salt since it's a bit tasteless :D

  • @watashiwaadilahdesu yes you're supposed to season it yourself. I go easy with the salt though usually so I can enjoy the salt in the kimchi with the soup.

  • awesome video and the music u used on this video is exceptionally good!! Can you tell me which track it is? :)

  • @blinkofaneye2soon Thank you, It's 'Evening Calm (Yuunagi)' by the Yoshida Brothers

  • is this good for women who just got their baby?

  • 안녕하세요, hello!

  • Ginseng and ginger taste different... I like Ginger with the recipe--but I may be strange, or it might be my family memory. I got it in Korea. It was good~.

  • can i substitute the ginseng for fresh ginger and is the dates a must for this dish?

  • Ginseng is damn expensive hahah just amazing unbelievable...

  • I hate to see this videos, they always make me hungry XD... thanks for sharing this recipe

  • your cute! :D

  • 맛있는 ! ^_^

  • hi ,hello from ireland in western europe , nice food i must say

  • Hello. I see you're using the clay pots on the electric stove. I have electric stoves too but I'm afraid what it will do to my clay pots. How do you take care of the pots after cooking?

  • i just known, we can eat ginseng..

  • I made this, but I had trouble finding the ginseng. I also added some other flavors to spice it up to suit my taste. very yummy!

  • Is the rice cooked? or just plainly soaked?

  • @patrickstar2241 just plainly soacked

  • maangchi, you dont add salt?D:

  • @laurysocheerful because meals like this are served in separate dishes to ppl, you have a small salt dish in front so ppl can add in their own salt when they need to. that's why she doesn't add the salt in b/w

  • Hi, is it ok if my ingredients comes out of the chicken or do i have to tie it up?

  • thk

  • what a small chicken :)

  • just made it, tasted just like my mom use to make. :-D

  • @sirpilf oh, good news! You miss your mom now. : )

  • @Maangchi mm nah actuelly i dont miss my mom if i make any lunch for myself becouse i know my mom would be so ignorant to make lunch and im proud that i made lunch by myself ! =D that means makeing lunch any time any type when ever i want... good foods ofcourse.

  • why do u use that kind of pot other than the regular ones? Does that one working better? and do you know where I can get that kind of pot?

  • @joycechu1963 you can cook with a regular pot. It's sold at a Korean grocery store. Check my kitchenware section on my website. Thank you.

  • @joycechu1963 It is called 'Onggi' which is korean traditional pot. it 'breath' because that pot blows.

  • @joycechu1963 Corelle sell it too, it's earth-ware. If not, check your local Chinatown / Korea town

  • my mom really likes this dish, she said the last time she ate this dish was 28yrs ago! lol.. now if go home to the phil. i will able to cook samgyetang for her..

but what if there's no fresh ginseng available, can i use ginseng powder?

  • @liya182 Yes, I think so. Use just 1 tbs powder.

  • i wonder if u put soy souce or any thing for the taste (salt maybe)

  • yumyum

  • please note that there are no dates in the dishes. these are jujubes. they look like small dates but they are very different. you can get them at korean stores.

  • @letabba jujubes are just korean names for red dates :)

  • Khamsahamida.

  • great video+greatsong it sounds relaxing!!

  • this is great!! thanks Maangchi!

  • @rosycolor Thank you, it's 'Evening Calm (Yuunagi)' by the Yoshida Brothers

  • how many pounds is that chicken?? thanks

  • @schweetheartmonkee It says cornish hens weigh on average about 1 1/4 lbs

  • @Maangchi Cornish hens and chickens aren't the same thing correct? I know that Cornish hens are smaller.

  • You make such good dishes that are so good for u ^__^ I am going to try this!

  • dear maangchi, i made this soup last night. but it kind of tasteless, was it because i skipped gingseng and date? i wanted to add more salt, but salt gives you hi blood presure, right? thanks before.

  • @ilovekangji Add some salt before eating.

  • perfect video

  • those things are not optional :) brilliant

  • the juice looks and sounds deicious...but i don't understand; do you eat the whole contents of the bowl including the chicken and the ginsdeng roots?..ty

  • did you soak cooked sweet rice or raw? and can i use brow rice instead?

  • omgeeee it look sooo yummie! xD i <3 your hair!!!! ^_^

  • The chicken looks good and fresh, I like that.

  • Thank you Maangchi for this video. I would like to try to make this. I have some questions:

    1) Do I use one cornish hen PER person?

    2) Can I use a large pot and then transter to serving bowls later on for each person?

    3) Do I simply multiply the amount of ingredients by the number of persons?

    4) Can I substitute dried ginseng for the fresh one I see here.

    5) Is the ginseng used here north american ginseng (& not Korean Nor Chinese ginseng)?

THANK YOU for answering my many questions.

  • Answer

1: Usually 1 person gets a whole Cornish hen, but if you don't want a whole one, have a half one.

    2. Yes, you can.

    3. I guess so.

    4. Dried ginseng is too hard to be cooked easily. I recommend using fresh ginseng.

    5. I don't know the answer

  • I love your recipes and can't wait to try these myself, all very healthy and delicious !!! :)

Thank You for taking the time for these great how to Vids

  • do you remove the skin of the chicken? or is it ok just to leave the skin on

  • I use the whole chicken. : )

  • 감사합니다 =]

  • I love your videos! They always make me hungry! =)

  • great video! Just wondering could we substitute sweet rice with normal rice?

  • yes, you can use either sweet rice or rice (short-grain rice known as sushi-rice)

  • thank you very much, i'm definitely going to try this sometime.

  • I am going to try this soup, but Korean ginsing is very expensive. I do not want to use Chinese ginsing or Califoria ginsing because they do not have the same medicanal value. I tried this in a restaurant, but now I can make it myself. Thanks for the recipe!

  • Aww maangchi this is amazing!

    your a cooking genius

  • Do you eat the chicken too or only the vegetables?

    Your videos are great!!

  • yes, of course you can eat the meat, soup, rice, garlic, ...except for chicken bones. : )

  • wow, I know how you feel about this dish! Certain food reminds me of my old memories. : )

  • I love ginseng chicken soup!!!! so tasty.

  • I use black small chicken instead and will it still taste the same

  • yes, the taste will be the same!

  • I guess the chicken meat would taste better when u add boiling water instead of the cold water, so that the chicken can be cooked immediately, meat would taste better.

In chinese ginseng chicken soup, checken would be first boiled in hot water, then, drain off the water, before really stewing soup. XD

    Thanks for sharing.

  • thanks so much for all of these great recipes :)

  • I had Asian chicken wings that had like just sugar and vegetables mixed in and cooked in regular oven. It was the best chicken I had ever had. Do you know how to cook it?

    energizing but not too storng

  • Korean chicken's dish looks yummy.

  • Yummy! This is what I always order when I go to a Korean restaurant. Is sweet rice the same as glutinous rice?

  • yes, children can eat it. I never use dried ginseng because it is still hard by the time I finish cooking my samgyetang.

  • how can i get sweet rice...?? i already tried to make vegetable pancake and it was a success!! but the flour is a bit too thick...hahahs.... =) =)

  • This video is great!! I love the recipe, it kind of reminds me of the food of Morocco, because we stuff cornish hens with dates and rice too, but this looked so good, because I adore garlic. • I remember when I ate this soup for the first time, when I was visiting Korea. I ordered it off the menu, expecting just an ordinary chicken-and-rice soup. My shock was complete when I saw the whole chicken in the bowl, with the inside stuffed w/ rice. I managed to eat everything, and I enjoyed it. Thank you for allowing me to see how the soup is made, and for bringing back wonderful memories.

  • I understand that you were surprised at the whole chicken in an earthenware pot. : )

  • Yup, sure was. You're the best.

  • Why do you have to scoop the bubble off the pot?

  • because it's like foam and you don't eat foam
