  • Steam driven, electrically controlled loco?

  • Steam driven, gas fired and radio controlled.

  • Hi, I must ask have you a chuffer on your Merlin Mayflower, it sound excellent, its just like the real lkoco !!! and whistle, !!! have you any fitting tipe regards the chuffer, as I'm about to one to mine !!!

any hints & tips are always welcome, the Merlin Mayflower is such a great like engine, thanks again for your video.

  • How do the couplers work?

  • @Amtrak1194

Hi, the coupling is done with a three link chain. I'm guessing you think that the loco couples automatically. A tip - this is an edited movie, watch the steam and look for the cut where the coupling up took place, unseen.

    Cheers ... Paul

  • Ive been looking at this real steam engines for a while now! they look amazing! i think! that was a really nice set up! new zeland was such a good place when i went there on holiday last christmas!! newzeland is what england should be!! i will be moving there when im older! my mates think im abit weird tho... for liking the engines... as i am only 20 :S im going to start my collection soon with a small stationary model! :D when i get paid next thats the thing i NEED!!

  • Awesoem, where in Glenfield are you? Perhaps we can catch a peep!

    Cheers

  • Nice Railway there. Sounds Great =)

  • did u know they made the set for thomas the tank engine with this scale of rail way

  • I have a suspicion that it was gauge 1 (45mm) but this loco has real steam and a THIN controller! :o)

  • Great video. What area are you in?

  • Glenfield. You?

  • Christchurch.

  • seen much 16mm? There is a chap in Rangiora who had a garden line but I think it's lifted for relocation.

  • Nice little vid, shame you dubbed over the sound of the model loco though

  • Personal taste really. It was a blustery day when filmed and the sound was all over the place, but I feel it makes the model seem more realistic. Twas more fun to edit too as the sound was downloaded from the web and finding something suitable was an enjoyable challenge.

  • Cracking little railway, is that a Merlin loco? particularly like the sound effects, very atmospheric.

  • Yes, it's a Merlin Mayflower, one of the second generation though so it seems to need fairly frequent attention and fix-ups, unlike products like those from Roundhouse. Stil, it's a 'pretty' little loco and I have a soft spot for it. Thanks for the comment.

  • RE: Gauge 32mmm. Should that be 32mm? or about 1 1/2".

  • Hmm, that's a nice little engine. This is going in my favorites right away. I was considering buying a Mamod, but decided to stick with O gauge and British 00

  • Thanks. I started with O gauge, then to steam and then to the larger scale. The garden means (to me) no scenic modelling.

  • Nice little railway. What class is the engine? And also how big is your gradient which the loco tackles on the last clip?

  • Thanks for the comment. The loco is a freelance design by the late Merlin Models being their 'Mayflower' 0-4-0T design. The gradient is 1:56 and curves round curves as tight as 4ft rad. This is often challenging for the little critters but certainly makes the exhaust bark as they climb!

  • The locomotive is a generic design (freelance) in the style of several British Narrow gauge loco builders. The gradient the loco starts onto is 1:56.

    Glad you like it.
