  • To play like this probably demands more of a musician than being able to perform at breakneck tempos. What a great performance from all the band.

  • Comme ça le fait..........Magnifique !

  • :)

  • This is the first song I've ever truly understood

  • does it get any better????????????????????

  • Respond to this video... my favorite jazz musician

  • There's also the ghetto version, "I'm gonna want you, fool!"

  • sublime

  • Freddie slays me

  • Daaaaamn. I had this album back in the early 80's. I know it was released before then, but a neighbor had it, an once i heard it I had to get the wax. Unfortunately it, along with hundreds of others, was lost in my roommates eviction. Dexter was a baaaaad man.

  • love DEXTER!

  • Hey guys the Dex version of Lady Bird got taken down. I uploaded the exact same vid to my channel for your viewing pleasure, no bull. Enjoy! /watch?v=EtuFaEzHJpM

  • This is inspiring. Makes me want to write a script for a dark movie.

"There she was, all dressed in pink. Standing in a crowd like she never belonged to one. Every little detail spelled trouble. But why couldn't I stop looking? The moment you saw her, it was already too late."

  • madrecita !

  • I think this is my new favorite sax player. It doesn't matter what he's playing, he pours his soul into every note. I prefer this over the players that just swallow notes as fast as possible without chewing first.

  • This makes me damn sad...

  • 5:13... that´s God!!! Tank´s alot for the post!!! I Love Gordon!

  • I enjoy every single note from his sax. My soul has a pocket just for him.

  • The tone Hubbard creates from 3:21 onwards reaches you straight to the bones. Pure excellence...

  • that breathy sax is irresistible! I've been craving for this type of jazz for ages, but didn't manage to find any decent vids

  • In Webster's dictionary, this comes before aardvark.

  • There is only one Dexter Gordon! Absolutely amazing....

  • Frank Sinatra's finest creation, dedicated to Ava Gardner when they were having a stormy time. Dexter Gordon shows how a ballad should be played.

  • Beautiful saxephone. Late nights listening to this interpretation are promised to be full of inspiration.

  • @melissamunroe - Oh I sure hope so!

  • @melissamunroe - Oh I sure hope so! had the pleasure of hearing a Dexter Gordon tribute tonight, it was great!

  • The one guy who voted this down should have his head examined.

    Walk long and tall Dexter.

  • @saxismyaxe Head ? what head ??? ;-))

  • @MrNepau

    True!

  • Angelic..

  • Oh My God...I surrender to your Will...

  • mellifluous

  • Freddie Hubbard plays at his best here ~ at least from what I've heard of Hubbard (a lot, but not all, of his recordings). This is a stunning piece of jazz, the equivalent of the Miles Davis-John Coltrane "Kind of Blue" adventures. Thank you for posting this masterpiece!

  • Hi Anne, laat pa even naar Dexter's solo luisteren. Het is een erg goede opname, je hoort Dexter gewoon ademen...dacht dat hij deze LP 'clubhouse' niet had, kopen zou ik zo zeggen dan!

  • Hi Anne, laat pa even naar Dexter's solo luisteren. Het is een erg goede opname, je hoort Dexter gewoon ademen...

  • Of all the jazz giants, Dexter is my favorite.

  • @JiveDadson haha he was a literal giant, like 6'6"

  • @KidDelicious11 More like 6'5"...but yeah, he was long and tall...while i think he was great, there were many who could match him on ballads...Wardell Gray, Coleman Hawkins, Johnny Griffin, just to name a few. Actually I think he overplayed a lot of his ballads and did not use dynamics as effectively as some of the others mentioned above. I think part of his appeal is that he was kind of a "last man standing" in jazz after a lot of the others had departed....

  • @soulfullyanointed you forgot "Frog" Webster.. Quite good at ballads! ;-)

  • @sabsaka Actually every single famous saxophone player is good at ballades... Lester Young, Coleman Hawkins, Ben Webster, John Coltrane, Dexter Gordon, Illinois Jacquet... They are all wonderful at ballades.

  • Hi everyone. ;-)

I found this old piece of jazz so inspirative, I did an a capella version of it. You're free to see and comment it.

And you may all be proud of such a good taste in music.

  • Hi everyone. ;-)

I found this old tune very inspirative. So I did a little a capella version of my own. I am open to all comments.

You should all be very proud of your refined taste in music.

  • music where a lot of mucisians can do up their inspiration from, NO MATTER what genre you are in,

    this is history

  • "A time to love ... a time for good music.

This is the moment of good music ... Excellent"

  • How well I know, Ms. Rikki

  • Freddie Hubbard is the perfect foil for Dex on this occasion; beautiful control and lovely, beautifully-timed phrasing. What an absolute joy it is for us to recall these superlative talents with this beautiful track.

  • Omg that is soo beautiful I've been playing for 4 years on my tenor and I hope to come close to that in my future

  • Things like these send you to a different state of mind, no use explaining.

All you who sit with your eyes closed and your arm hairs up know what i mean.

    Thanks for this music.

  • This guy influenced me to ever start play jazz.

or to even listen to it.

He touches something deep inside me with his sax

  • Absolutely sublime!

  • In 1974 a friend asked me if I ever heard Dexter Gordon play sax. He told me he was a major player. I'd heard bird, Hawk, Prez, and a lot other's. I was sure there wasn't left anyone else worth really listening to. Then I heard Dexter. My life has been richer. Thank God for good friends.

  • No one does it better, just a Marvelous performance.

  • Dexter Gordon, musical genius, a talent from God.

  • This cuts right through me - so sublime. genius.

  • Dexter , nessuno come te...

  • One of the great jazz tracks.

    Simply superb.

  • for me Dexter was the boss of ballads, poors his heart into every note. Thanks for posting

  • Amazing song... And Dexter's sax...

  • This is the jazz art form you seldom hear now. What a shame..

  • Insane.

    Just...totally insane piece of music.

  • dexter r.i.p.you are fab and cool

  • Love you dexter

  • wonderful*******************

  • that's beautifule... it makes me blue

  • Amazing.

  • WOW!

  • Dexter Gordon and Freddie Hubbard: The Batman and Robin of jazz ballards.

  • dear god...

  • @slowitdownsome Just breathe......I understand...Breathe with me..

  • It doesn't get any better then this!

  • Amen.

  • Please someone could post" isn't she lovely ? played by Gordon..Thanks

  • I called it MUSIC, every note has some thing to tell abot. Every note is like a frame...

  • love this song

  • Как будто первый и последний раз целую свою единственную любовь. Голова кругом.

  • This is just about the best jazz tune ever done. Hubbard definitely makes me weep.

  • Dex was a poet. A dream tone. muscular but sweet. And of course phenomenal knoweledge of the music itself. What a technique. And yes echoes of Brownie mumur distinctly through the late Hubb's horn. Phenomenal. To die for

  • This is music for the soul. It's easy , soft and smooth. Just what the doc ordered after a long day. Thanks for sharing.

  • ♥♥♥♥♥

  • Dexter played ballads like probably no one else could...his tone is perfect for this kind of tunes.

  • this makes me choke up everytime I hear it, and i've heard it many, many times now....

  • @rikkigroen i know exactly what you mean - seriously heart touching music

  • this tune can make anyone a fan of the sax and trumpet. Both are terrific here.

  • This is wonderful......he is the best!!!

  • Wow, this is a gem. Never heard of the album...on BlueNote- how did I miss this?!

  • same here. just great.

freddie and dex are second to no one

  • One of my favorites. Dexter's playing is so heartfelt and pure. Freddie's vibrato is so vocal. Wonderful jazz from the masters!
