Something similar happened to my laptop whilst I was at uni a few years ago. Turns out that because I was such a dirty bastard and smoking about 20 cigarettes a day in my dorm room for about 6 months, the smoke had made the dusty air worse and had clogged up inside the GPU fan grill!

Pulled a shit load of that stuff out of it, and the laptop was fine, no more overheating when using high graphics programs :P

best thing is to clean it every few month. have the case fans blowing air in 1 side out the other in a loop. keeps the fan blowing down on the cpu less dust free makes a diffrence but not a lot or get a watercooling setup and a decent case with dust filters.

I reccomend using a Que tip and scrape the dust off then run under cold water then pat dry with towel then use a blow/hair dryer put on hot and dry out the water in between the rails
