  • Does Anyone know where I can buy an entire new screen. Ive looked all over ebay, and the internet but I cant find one. Please help!

  • Jew

  • Glad you still play gameboy :D its sick :)))

  • The slinky has been around for a thousand years. It just didn't get popular till stairs were invented.

  • I kniw why its stupid inventions just wow your just playing the one you bought

  • ive opened them with a small flathead

  • Original GB is a thing of true beauty! Sadly a killer on batteries.

  • @broken1394 Maybe, although I have to say my Ipod would run out of juice a long time before the gameboy and after 19 years my gameboy still works, the Ipod died after barely 2 years. Suck it modern technology!

  • or you could of just used the gameboy you bought .

  • @Travroxit It's not the same... -.-

  • I'm so disapointed, the Play it Loud gameboys must be built differently...I bought a replacement screen for it, but have opened it up to find it doesn't come apart after all the screws are out. I found that there are actually three plastic clamps, and then two more upsidedown screws holding it together. How can you possibly take out upsidedown screws? I can't even understand how they put this together in the first place

  • @TRJ22487ISDEAD oh great, and I totally broke it. Now I've got a black screen with working audio. I think the ribbon got damaged. Dammit.....It was perfectly fine outside of the external scratches. Shit shit shit. I really wish I hadn't tried this.

  • @TRJ22487ISDEAD Damn...I'm smacking myself even more. I was wrong about those upsidedown screws...it must have just been a bit stuck or something. I guess the Play It Loud's are the same as the original....hmmm...well now I've gotta replace this ribbon. Anyone know where to buy this ribbon? Or should I just try to take one out of another gameboy? I can't figure out how to disconnect the end of the ribbon connected to the board the screen is on...does it just pop out like the other end?

  • @TRJ22487ISDEAD WAIT A MINUTE! I just constantly keep topping myself in the "you're a moron" department. I don't need to try to fix this ribbon whatsoever. All I need to do is find ANY original game boy and just take the board from that and put it into my Gameboy. Duh! I can't believe how obvious that was. Well, I suppose I can't be too upset by all of this. Sure I broke my Gameboy in the process of this, but I learned a lot about the inside, finally figured how to pop the screen...its all good

  • where too get a trigram screwdiver

  • Thanks for the vid.

Good explanation and nice Super Mario characters btw. ;)

  • what the fuck was the point just use the one you bought working you just made life for yourself alot harder

  • @waslookat1me yea exactly what i was thinking...... if he wanted to make that new gbO look like his own old one then u could have just exchanged the plastic cases so it has the same scuffs and scratches....

lame video.... i thought you would actually replace just the screen not the whole circuit

  • do you know where I can get a new DMG Protection Screen ?

  • @OpticalHaze They sell these on ebay for a pretty good price, just search for something like "Gameboy Screen" or so and you should find it pretty easily.

  • umm... whats the point?

  • Should adjust the titel tho I wanted to know how to replace the screen. Not the screen and the board its attached to.. but thanks anyway :)

  • i found my gameboy screen sort not in the center of the transparent scree cover plate, how to corret the position of the screen plz?

  • there is no way

  • The ribbon is called a Zero Insertion Force (ZIF) connector. My laptop's full of the damn things.

  • nice shirt

  • @cavemano123 thanks!

  • @cavemano123 duh because he is Jewish

  • Would it at all be possible to back or front light it?

  • @sasukruto hmm, maybe front light it, not sure

  • @StupidInventions BTW, there is a way to repair the vertical lines on the screen, the horizontal lines however can't be. With the vertical lines you just run a hot solder iron over the ribbon cable on the bottom of the screen. Remove the rubber strip before doing this and have the system powered on and darkest contrast to see your progress. For things like backlighting, you can visit either nonelectronics(dot)com or kitsch-bent(dot)com.

  • @sasukruto It's very possible. Mine has a green backlight. :)

  • @KendrickArojas indeed

  • if u dont mind me asking.... what b/w pictures do you have there hangin at ur wall in front of ur desk?

  • @TheCanmadman not sure, it's my sister's room,

  • get a new invention called a ipod touch you can play tetris and more and its touch

  • @twistedmadlard um, good point...

  • @twistedmadlard i dont think you understand the intention of this video.

  • So to save urself buying a new gameboy by just replacing the screen you bought a new gameboy to go through the trouble of taking them apart with all the bits risking breaking your gameboy so you can swap the screens anyone see the flaw

  • @MRR4YM4N i wanted my old gameboy to work again for nostalgic reasons....

  • why did you buy a gb just to fix another one" why not just use the new one -_-

  • @spiderf29 i wanted my old gameboy to work again!

    for nostalgic reasons!

  • @spiderf29 This is what we're talkin about "StupidInventions" :)

  • the only reason i would do this is because my cousin he had like the 5th Gameboy ever made so yeah he wanted to keep it and the screen broke, he was... well... emotional about it, so I looked and looked and finally came to this, THANK YOU!

  • @TTimmyPokemonDude Were you able to fix it?

    Happy to help!

  • hilariously enough you bought a new game boy anyway to FIX the old one!!!

  • @MEGAMAN7659 it was also old... I wanted MY gameboy to work...

  • @TheMrmaximum21 I just bought a whole other gameboy for $10 and took the parts i needed!

  • Please leave the internet alone

  • @MegaBobo234 Thanks MegaBobo!

    Nice username!

  • Hey, I'm not trying to be a smart ass here, but don't forget to try and take the screen cover from the other gameboy and glue it into position on your own one!! It would be a shame if the replacement LCD screen on your game boy got damaged after all the work you put into fixing it!!

Also keep the other GameBoy for spare parts, it might just come in handy! Hope I'm not too late saying this...

Very good vid by the way, if you like Tetris there is a storey about it made by the BBC on youtube!

  • @colmcarrigg thank you very much for the advice!

yes i did take the screen cover from the spare one, and I keep the spare one for parts.

Ooh cool, ill try to check it out!

  • how do you replace the screen cover?

  • @9Karma9 i do it in the video, no?

  • your a MOT !!!!! (member of the tribe) Like me! How do you initially remove the screen cover to replace that? Thats causing me difficulty. PLAESE HELP

  • @9Karma9 you have to open up the game boy and remove it from the inside... not sure if that's the screen you're talking about but let me know if that helps!

  • your a MOT !!!!! (member of the tribe) Like me!

  • @9Karma9 coolio! Never heard the term MOT before.

  • I just picked up a gameboy at the local flea market 2day and I also got tetris! Works great surprisingly (tho it cost me a good 15 dollars;)

  • @austatarimaster $15 is a good price for a working gameboy... got to love the classics.

  • "memories of blowing into this as hard as you can to make it work"

  • @avernales123 me too... good times!

  • @bruspeed hahaha thanks!

  • he baught a new one anyways. Why would you go to the trouble of swapping the screens for no reason. WY NOT SMASH IT LIKE WE DO!!!!!!

  • @TOAHENDRIK I wanted my own gameboy to be working again... for sentimental reasons...

  • this guy is an idiot, he has a whole new gameboy right next to him!!! just use the other gameboy!!

  • @qweqpo4224 I wanted my own gameboy to be working again... for sentimental reasons...

  • ugh pokemon silver destroyed the screen on my original gameboy so i just bought a color lol

  • @metakight4 ugh. that stinks!

  • @StupidInventions ya i know but i love my color more then my originlnal one because i didnt have to pay 30.00$ for it lol i just took my gameboy apart and sold the useful parts to my friends and made like 90.00 so atleast i got money from it lol

  • I cant open my game boy. I took the trigram screws out but I cant open my gameboy.

  • @Wild2Do maybe theres still a screw attached?

  • if there are vertical lines they can be fixed by using a soldering iron aplying heat on the brown ribbon beneath the screen. Note that you must remove a little black rubber piece with its adhesive tape, that's were you have to put the heat on it.

Just apply the heat on that spot, (30w soldering iron works perfect) and you'll see the screen vertical lines come to life.

this only stands for the vertical ones, not the horizontal ones.

  • @analogInsert awesome! thanks for the tip!

I'm a bit scared to put a soldering iron near my beloved gameboy, but maybe I'll give it a shot...

    Thanks!

  • @analogInsert a little bit of extra pressure works also (couple layers of electrical tape over rubber bit,as the screws pull the case together the screen comes back to life)an iron can stick the solder back down but can also cause it to disconnect making problem worse, its up to you,i say if tape works stick with it,ps the tape trick also works where the ribbon connects to the board(on gameboy pocket)

  • why didnt you just use the other gameboy????

  • @komninos99 because I wanted my old original gameboy to work! :D

  • i miss the sound of turning on my old game boy and playing tetris. it was the only game i had lol

  • @BrownEyedStatistic Tetris for the gameboy rules!

  • would it be possible to use the screen from a GB colour screen in an origonal game boy? if so wat would happen to the picture quality, wat differences would there be, and could u potencially play both the origonal and the gb colour games on it?

  • @SynisterDanV01 I don't think it would be possible to attach the screen. I mean maybe, but still the original gameboys "computer" wouldn't be able to read the color cartridge or send the color signals to the screen, at least I don't think so... You'd have to ask an expert! :D

  • i was playing with my old game boy color (the only game i still had was Pokemon yellow) soon i started to play the whole day and then night came i turned on the game boy and got so annoyed. there is no back light !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i had to use a flash light to play. im spoiled by my DS light.

  • @lambyxxx yeah, in the good ol' days there was no backlight... the only reason gamers had to go in the sun!

The Sega Gamegear had a backlight, but it sucked up batteries in seconds!

  • y would you do that if you have two gameboys and one works perfectly fine and the other one just has a broken screen y not just play from the one that work.

  • @coolbuilds500 because I wanted MY old gameboy to work... for nostalgic reasons...

  • that's cool i would have kept it out of the case and make an awesome one

  • @lambyxxx hmmm interesting idea, maybe I'll make some weird type of gameboy!

Somebody made a really cool Steampunk gameboy, google it, it looks really cool!

  • do you just reply to absolutely every comment you get? lol, never seen someone so avidly interact with their viewers.

  • @M0VEZIG I read every comment, and try to respond when can... it helps that I dont get that many comments so it isnt that hard...

  • Comment removed

  • happy to help!

  • why don't you just not waste your time and use the one you bought on ebay

  • where would be the fun in that?

  • 2:16 he looks like the sims 3 fast forwarding when you tell them to tinker.

  • ha! funny!

  • 12 dollars damn you got ripped off...lol just joking

  • lol, whats it going for on ebay now?

  • Thank you Stupidinventions don't listen to any of the hater out there, hey how can replace the protective film, not the screen but the front plastic that protects it, my screen works fine but the front casing is really scratched.

  • Thanks, lol

that part should pop out quite easily, and i believe you can buy just that part on ebay for pretty cheap...

  • y replace the screen with nother amboy if u have one tht works fine right next to u?????

  • because I wanted my old one to work again..

  • stop talking

  • ouch :(

  • Don't listen to him! You rock!

  • lol thanks!

  • right! the video is interesting, i always wanted to know how the gameboy's guts looked like.. but... i am really upset about the outside form is so squary and.. gray sad.. stupid inventions could you make a cooler outside case?

  • i guess I could, but i like the grey case, it reminds me of a simpler time, lol... google the term Steampunk Gameboy and you can see a really cool gameboy case mod

  • You let me get this straight, you got a perfectly good Gameboy from ebay in good condition, and you took it apart to replace just the screen with your original gameboy that was beat and with no screen protector.... How does this make any sence.... I under stand that you did it to show people thats cool but its not that hard to do at all... BTW can you answer the question already ARE YOU JEWISH!!!

  • I suppose you miss the point of "stupid inventions" and the humor behind it...

  • glad somebody gets it Javinax.... :)

and yes Turk, I am Jewish, I didnt realize it was a mystery...

  • this is a simple procedure.

    @FullFreakFilms:

It would more than likely be easiest to replace the speakers. Simply get yourself a soldering iron with a micro tip and heat the solder connecting the speakers. Then simply twist the wires around the new speakers, solder them into place and ta-da

  • good suggestion!

  • Hey is there anyway to remove the actual screen from the GB board? I've got one with a bad screen goos speakers, and one with a good screen and bad speakers.

  • hmm, not that i know of, I would ask a reall professional, but you can always buy a new gameboy for pretty cheap on ebay

  • Thanks for the reply. I took my chances with the speaker on the one and it turns out it worked. So brought a GB I got for $2 to life for about $4 total!

  • Sweet!

    so happy to hear it!

Feel free to make a video of the now working gameboy and post it as a video response to this video.

  • but you already have a perfectly good gameboy already?

is the gameboy with the good screen broken in another way?

  • We must be missing something here. That *does* seem like the obvious better solution.

Or at least transfer over the whole front half (with good screen cover) from the other Game Boy, right?

  • for nostalgic reasons, I wanted MY old gameboy to work... also to teach people how the gameboy works and how to fix their own...

  • thank you, i can finaly repair my gameboy

  • happy to help!

You should make a video response once you fixed it!

    :)

  • sorry, I have no video camera

  • thats ok!

    good luck with your gameboy!

  • Are you Jewish?

  • yes

  • Oh wow, I had this problem too, but when I shake it very very violently, it starts to work again except for the rightmost column of pixels

  • really? that doesnt sound like its good for the gameboy, no?

  • @StupidInventions No, not really. But I'm going to use this gameboy until it totally breaks :p. I have a spare on hand when that happens.

  • Coolio!

    enjoy!

  • Wow watching this brought back memories haha I had a red on I believe, well I just turned 15. It was my brothers (who is now 18) and I remember it ever so slightly =) But I will never forget that classic Tetris music! :D

  • everyone knows the tetris music! gotta love the gameboy!

  • hey can you play some video that teaching us how to put a green light on a gameboy????pls help

  • what do you mean by a green light?

  • what i mean on green light is that (CAN YOU TEACH US HOW TO PUT LIGHT ON OUR GAME BOY) or make an invention to put a light on our game boy??????wish you luck if you do that......

  • Great video! So useful! :)

  • thanks!

  • your still getting a new one so no real point

  • yeah, but you could buy a broken gameboy with a working screen for even cheaper and use the screen... so basically if you have two broken gameboys you can make one working one with this method...

  • thats what i was thinking

  • the single most ridiculous fix/mod i have seen. you did absolutely nothing.

  • read the comments, after watching this video, some people were able to take two broken gameboys and make one working one out of it!

I'm sorry if you didnt enjoy this video though, check out the rest and I think youll like em!

  • @StupidInventions

    Ok man...nice job then :)

  • lol thanks!

  • i did. i was reiterating what others have said. i guess your channel fits with what you do though... and some people enjoy it so props on that

  • The point of this video was to just showcase whats inside the gameboy, and show how if you do damage the screen, you can very easily replace it with a new one..... that you can get on ebay for cheap... i for one thought that was good to know... yeah we live up to the Stupid Inventions name...

  • You had one that was working, why take both apart to build one? xD

  • because I wanted MY old one to be working again... I did it for nostalgic reason...

  • Do you think you can make it into an mp3 player?

I've been thinking about trying it, but I have no idea how.

  • somebody made something like that actually, do a google search for iBoy... hope that helps!

  • lol im so subcribing, do u sell ur products?

  • thanks for subscribing!

no we dont sell any of the Stupid Inventions at the moment, but who knows?

  • where do you live im from philippines if you are in the philippines too i gonna give you my old game boy pocket if you want because i collected all the gameboys from the old one to the newest ones

  • i live in New York, but thanks anyways!

  • Give it the BGColor screen! >8D

I know.. it's out of the question. But would be nice. Yeh?

  • that would be awesome!

  • i have a gameboy COLOR that works.. jealous?

  • very much so!

but I still have my gameboy advance that plays gameboy color games, plus a gameboy and gameboy color emulator on my Nintendo DS... :)

  • lol, gbasp+psp wins. :)

  • lol awesome!

  • woa 20 years. i dont have one of the original gameboys but thanks for making this vid for all the ppl that do.

  • yeah, the gameboy is old!

    lol, no problemo!

  • yeah, the gameboy is old!

    no problemo!

  • lol. u could just play on the other gameboy

  • wheres the fun in that?

  • the FIRST ds (not the lite or dsi) the touch screen would break down and wouldnt sense the stylus

  • that sucks!

you could buy cheap replacement screens from a website from china... message me if you're interested and ill send you the link... its complicated to replace the screen, but worth a shot if its broken anyways...

  • nice collection, ur lucky you have all that stuff

  • lol thanks, i think the next toy im going to buy is a wario figure... when I have the money...

  • lol NINDENDO characters

  • I actually found an old Link action figure too that I used to have when I was a kid thats now on my desk too :)

  • lol u are right

  • thanks

  • why dont u just change the new pcb into ur old gameboy cassing?
