God your a lucky man to have done that, I envy you, in the right way. Castaway is my all time favourite film and it always will be. A true work of art and of love. I remember when I first saw this film, I was with the love of my life and so happy. I thought I was able to show my feelings with ease because of her, but I was wrong. I wish some people told the truth about love. Some just don't know what love is, I wish she would have known what it was and forgiven me, because that's what love is.
I think it is certain he went after Bettina. Otherwise, their chance meeting on the road makes no sense. Also, notice that the last direction in which he looks is the direction in which she drove off. I don't see any other conclusion.
Well I had to sync up the movies to beleive it but everything seems to be spot on, the angle is slightly different but doesnt take too long to realize everything is in its proper place from trees to light poles and road signs, marking on the roads etc. Good job thats kind of sweet. I would go there everyday and ponder my lifes tough choices.
Looking at this, the message of the whole film to me seems to be:
Life is open to us. We are free to choose our path. Nevertheless, there is only one person standing at the crossroads. That is ourselves. No one else is there to make our decisions for us. Every decision we make in life is ours and ours alone. And we are responsible for the path we take in life.
We may not be stranded on a desolate island, but we're all ultimately alone in choosing our own path.
I'm from the town near that. It's Pampa Texas...This scene is outside canadian...let me tell you its a very small, flat place in the middle of nowhere lol
@austencovin I plugged those coordinates in my GPS. I will one day go there, before I die! I will play the sound track with this very same music also. Then I may just put a bullet in my head right there in the intersection this is so depressing.
One of the best closing scenes ever, and you did a beautiful job in capturing it. Don't listen to the nay sayers, you were brave and ambitious to attempt this, and it was worth it. You done well... peace.
for all you cast away fans....it was truly stated that inside the box was a waterproof universal cell phone. No joke. He is at a crossroads in his life. He can go any direction, he looks back at the ranch, ultimately hoping to settle down with the woman. As seen, the husband (other half of her name) was broken off the archway of the gate. The package, if opened could have saved his life. But sometimes what you have in your life, isn't always the right thing. it's fate....spectacular movie
He meets a beautiful girl... with the FED EX sign back her car (wings), the same picture he had on his "boat" to leave the island (here we guess the island means Kelly too). He understand she lives where he put down the very package...(the scene before he told his friend "I just have to keep breathing. Maybe the tide will give me something"). He realises it could be this girl. Coincidences you know. This is a very romantic ending. I like that. (sorry for my english)
@felixramosbledard Sorry for your english? No need! I didnt see a problem at all. If english is your second lang., good job! Most people on here cannot even type and that is their first lang. lol
Man, I'll explain. Tom Hanks put down the only package from fed ex he didn't open to survive. He asks if someone's there but nobody's here. He just wrote near the package "this package saved my life. Thank you", and he leaves. Then he's at a crossroad (what a symbol!) and he don't know what to do next.
Good job man....I always loved that scene...Chuck Noland was literally at a cross roads in his life, haven't we all been there one? I thought the movie ended with us all hoping the best for Chuck. I think he went back to the house where Betina lived and is there today, sitting on the porch with her and the dog drinking a cold Doctor Pepper.
@CropDusterMan ....... with lots of ice ! My fav movie of all time. There is so much meaning to the end of this film. It is all most certain he went back to the house to be with Bettina. You could tell when Chuck got back to the real world it was difficult for him to be around people. When he came to the crossroads in Texas he found his "new" Kelly in a unpopulated area for which he had been accustomed to the last 4 yrs of his life. Perfect sound track !

Nice, but what was the point?
You should have made this a younger version of the same character.... but at the end, we see that he's looking at a "Person for Hire" Fedex sign. The sign that led to his getting marooned in the first place.
It would be a funny, ironic statement about life's choices, which is what that scene from the movie was all about.
@paintball2591 Yup! Same here man! However, you cannot help think of how his life would have been if he never got off that plane. To see his true love get married and have kids is heartbreaking.

I didn't love the movie 'Castaway' all that much when I first saw it but over time it has REALLY grown on me, ESPECIALLY the very last scene.
I just got done watching it again and was curious about exactly where that intersection was so I typed it in and came up with this video which does actually capture some of what I love about that movie's ending. 8-)
Great video. Where exactly is this intersection? From google maps, it looks like Tx305 and Tx213. The movie says it's on 83 but I don't see anything close on 83.
Dude, that's awesome!!! Thank you soooo much for sharing this self-made video with us! To me, that is one of the most emblematic moments(if not the most) from this great movie.
I live in Greece, which is an amazing country, but I do admire very much this kind of landscape near your home. I don't know how to describe it.... it just makes me feel fine. :)
I love when the lady gives the directions to Mr. Noland...:
"Well, that's 83 South. And this road here will hook you up with I-40 East. If you turn right, that'll take you to Amarillo, Flagstaff - California. And if you head back that direction, you'll find a whole lot of nothing all the way to Canada".
Absolutely applaud you for taking the time and having the drive to make such a clip years after the movie came out. The last few minutes of the film is very moving and you did something here that brings that feeling back.
