Actually in Canadian political discourse the term "The Maritimes" (perhaps note the capital M) in fact does refer to New Brunswick, PEI and Nova Scotia, and not Newfoundland and Labrador. When including Newfoundland the term "Atlantic Provinces" is used instead. Newfoundland is quite different from the Maritime provinces in a number of ways, and became part of Canada some 80 years later.

Slade didnt write this - at least not entirely. The melody for this song pops up all over in an old film called Arsenic and Old Lace made in 1944. Jim Lea and Noddy Holder may well have written the words though
