I´m from Austria, I discovered country music when I started western riding in the 80´s, and I really was the only teenager in school who listened to that kind of music! So I totally identify with this song! I love it!
Putting peanuts in your coke is like eating french fries with a milk shake, it was about the salt and the sugar tasting good together. It's an old country thing people used to do.
@mrsbelcher1987 It was a common thing they did back in those days put peanuts in their coke. It was a fad thing. That was the main snack at drive in theatre to buy a coke and peanuts and somehow they got the idea to just put the peanuts floating in their cokes and drank it like that. Hard to really explain. I just kind of heard about it and similar to how people put dif things in various foods just because it is fun or tastes good.
Coke and peanuts! HELL YES im 16 and me and my bestfriend are the only two hicks at our school. Gotta love it :) Everyone makes fun of me when i do coke and peanuts!
Now i swear this is me 120%...i remember waring my cowboy boots back in 6th and below and now everybody is that here in the 9th grade its funny how true this song is:)
@haleyflora1234 kinda threw me with that one but I think she said putting peanuts in her coat. but if I am wrong I can hardly wait to hear why peanuts would go in a coke.
@haleyflora1234 back in the 50's and 60's I never drank a coke without putting peanuts in the bottle,,, guess it was southern thing... I thought everyone used to do that !!!!!!
@123456789mischief --- yea, really good, the salt in the peanuts and the coke have a addictive taste have to use the salty peanuts that come in real small clear wrappers (for about 50 cents) made by toms or lance company-- you need to try it... also has to be a 6 1/2 ounce coke ------- in the bottle
@Mattzarkovich Yup call me ignorant for being country and proud of it. Your statistics don't mean shit to me by the way. Talk shit about country being "un-cool" but when you eat your breakfast in the morning, thank a farmer. When you cover up with a blanket at night, thank a farmer. When you buy "cool" clothes, thank a damn farmer. You wouldn't have half the shit you do if it weren't for farmers. And guess what? Farmers are country. That's a fact buddy.
@RNFarmer94 Dude im not making fun of country i stated a fact i like country or why else would i search this song. I never said country was bad its just proven that its not popular or cool. @RNFarmer94 lol thats such a great comment I'm sorry but incorrect information doesn't make me feel bad. Also, my statement is true by the way its not intended to offend someone obviously your to ignorant to realize that. If you like county and you think its "cool" then good for you its a matter of personal preferences, and opinions. Bye

i wasn't listening to country music like dat but when i met this nice country gurl frum tennessee and she always used to play this song and the song sounds very good and i haven't left tennessee yet.
@guitars71 - she was country, when artists were selling gold and platinum albums in an age when nobody would admit they listened to country. While you were listening to garbage and stoned out of your mind she was touring the Country singing to a wonderful audience of LIFE LONG dedicated fans.
@KLUNKET Hummm! Let's see? I'm 39! This women was big around 1980? '82? Anyway, that would have made me around 10 or 11. Now, what kind of access to drugs do you think an 11 year old has to get stoned, while listening to music from rock artists who made it into the rock'n'roll hall of fame and are still around and touring the globe, today? I bet Gene Simmons from Kiss, has sold more solo albums from his solo project, than this hillbilly chick from hickville has, her entire career!
@guitars71 Taste is subjective. I dont care how many albums any band or singer has sold, so long as I enjoy their music. One of my favorite metal bands, Amon Amarth has sold less albums then say, Green Day but I think they are way better than Green Day. Again, taste varies.
@PsychoKitty My favorite band is Godsmack, but, MTV, VH1, Most of FM radio, and even this year's superbowl halftime show, thinks it should be I should be listening to bands like, The Black Eyed Peas, just 'cause they're more popular around the world! Sully Erna may not be be on MTV, VH1, or even take part in a halftime show, but I think Godsmack is a far way better band than the Black Eyed Peas! That's my own opinion!
@KLUNKET Not to put down country music. It's great music with tons of talented artists and I'm a fan of Willie Nelson and Toby Keith, but I think today's country is far more popular and sounds better, than country from the 80's! And alot of today's country music is crossing over into rock'n'roll, with artists like Kid Rock, Steven Tyler who sang on stage with Willie Nelson, and Led Zeppelin's, Robert Plant who recently won a CMA award with Allison Krauss
Barbara was the CREATOR of being intimate w/ the audience,,, none before her and hardly ANYONE since her aside from Reba and Jennifer Nettles, truly engage the audience,,, there is a sparkle in her eye... she KNOWS her stuff and can wink, smile, shake hands all while singing.. Women today are so worried about the words and being serious,,,, side note, i wish youtube would filter double posts of the same footage...
Whenever the Mandrell sisters would come on tv my ma would cue and point to me and have me sing with her and my little sister....This is one of the many of them and its so true...I was country when country wasn't cool.....
This song sure brings back alot of memories. Sitting in the car a the DRIVE IN MOVIES!! and listening to Barbra sing this song. That was me... I am a country girl. I thing that she is one of the best that has ever been. I wish that she would come back,
@mikebcnu2 LOL. I was just thinking the exact same thing. Barbara Mandrell was hugely popular when I was in my teens. It almost depresses me to see all these shows now. I appreciate them being posted on youtube but it's a bit of a mind f-ck seeing my childhood and teens relegated to nostalgia. To me it all seems like it happened just a few minutes ago
Barbara's Doing great and has a beautiful rose garden at her home that she has created. She's an amazing person and I'm glad to call her my friend. She is definitely an icon in Country Music and the Entertainment Industry in general.
The greatest country entertainer that ever graced Nashville! There were other great singers (I'm not blinded by just her good looks) but by far - the most versatile performer in country. If it had strings she could play it - if it had lyrics - she could sing it. I never got to meet Barbara - but if it was one of those Make a Wish things - she'd be my choice! Jimmy Mac - Las Vegas.
@MrStitch105 Thats for sure!!. She doesnt need all the stage show effects. Just listening to her sing is better than all the stuff they do today to try and entertain. She's just there by herself and you could listen to her sing and not get bored.
George tells a story about one of these shows in his book "I Lived to Tell it All" where he was supposed to come out & sing his line in this song with Barbara, and he was so drunk his manager told the producers he couldn't do it, but no one told Barbara. She walked down the stairs to his seat so he could sing the line and he has no idea what came out of his mouth because he was so messed up. It's supposedly on tape somewhere and I would love to see it.
I am gonna add this song to the new website polktube.webs.com it will be a great song to put on my profile. If you are not on polktube you should sign up its free and fun
Reminds me and my mother..I was 6yrs old she was 27yrs...She had the 45rpm and I remember she made a mix tape with a bunch of country songs..this was the one I will always remember.
barbara is from california and definitely not country by birth. i think her point here is that she grew up with all her friends being into rock music and she liked country. it wasn't cool back when the beatles ruled. it's easy to be a sheep, it's much harder to do your own thing.
@eydie57 If ya actually know where Barbara Mandrell is from she is actually from Houston,Texas but she moved to California when she was like ten years old.
Barb is all class....We love you sugar!!...;-)

@KLUNKET Hummm! Let's see? I'm 39! This women was big around 1980? '82? Anyway, that would have made me around 10 or 11. Now, what kind of access to drugs do you think an 11 year old has to get stoned, while listening to music from rock artists who made it into the rock'n'roll hall of fame and are still around and touring the globe, today? I bet Gene Simmons from Kiss, has sold more solo albums from his solo project, than this hillbilly chick from hickville has, her entire career!
guitars71 1 year ago
@guitars71 Taste is subjective. I dont care how many albums any band or singer has sold, so long as I enjoy their music. One of my favorite metal bands, Amon Amarth has sold less albums then say, Green Day but I think they are way better than Green Day. Again, taste varies.
PsychoKittyNet 1 year ago
@PsychoKitty My favorite band is Godsmack, but, MTV, VH1, Most of FM radio, and even this year's superbowl halftime show, thinks it should be I should be listening to bands like, The Black Eyed Peas, just 'cause they're more popular around the world! Sully Erna may not be be on MTV, VH1, or even take part in a halftime show, but I think Godsmack is a far way better band than the Black Eyed Peas! That's my own opinion!
guitars71 1 year ago
@KLUNKET Not to put down country music. It's great music with tons of talented artists and I'm a fan of Willie Nelson and Toby Keith, but I think today's country is far more popular and sounds better, than country from the 80's! And alot of today's country music is crossing over into rock'n'roll, with artists like Kid Rock, Steven Tyler who sang on stage with Willie Nelson, and Led Zeppelin's, Robert Plant who recently won a CMA award with Allison Krauss

Actually folks, she is the most beautiful woman in the world.

Great that you like her. She plays more instruments than I can name. Why do you have to denigrate the younger talent? They are great too.

MrStitch105 1 year ago

It's supposedly on tape somewhere and I would love to see it.

barbara is from california and definitely not country by birth. i think her point here is that she grew up with all her friends being into rock music and she liked country. it wasn't cool back when the beatles ruled. it's easy to be a sheep, it's much harder to do your own thing.
eydie57 1 year ago
@eydie57 If ya actually know where Barbara Mandrell is from she is actually from Houston,Texas but she moved to California when she was like ten years old.
