  • nice toes mmmmm

  • thats nasty!!!!!

  • Thank you for this informative video.

Perhaps you would consider submitting a video like this, or any other biotherapy-related video, to the BTER Foundation's Biotherapy Video Contest (still open, until Dec 31, 2011). I think you would have a good chance of winning one of the top 10 prizes. If interested, more information at the BTER Foundation website. Whether or not you decide to submit something, thank you again for making this video available.

  • @BTERFoundation Thank you for the suggestion but I am not eligible because I am not resident in the USA.

  • wait.. the guy in the video died??

  • ow ow ow ow OW OW OW OW OW!!!!!!!!

  • I think I saw fumes when it unwrapped....

  • I'm gonna puke no offence but I just can't hold it back :(

  • im starving...

  • i would have to be knocked out cold for the unveiling of this

  • where is the sound ?

  • wow.......jaw dropper

  • so did the guy live from this or die?

  • so...err you let maggots run through out you leg or somthing?

  • ..* Gulps*....how on earth did i find this video? O_O

  • did it smell like cheese in the room?

  • @Jdub1515 Well, there was a smell, not sure if it was like cheese - it was four years ago.

  • @pinknonsense oh man, you have some serious nerves of steel, i would probably be stiff with fear knowing there are maggots in my leg. but i hope your therapy went better than planned :)

  • @pinknonsense omg is this dude...like ok? or did he pass out after a while?

  • @littlemonkeydreamer

He was fine about it - it didn't hurt whereas physical debridement did so he preferred this kind of therapy.

  • @pinknonsense oh thank god =)

  • why'd he do this?

  • @S2happy44

The Maggots eat the dead flesh, stopping necrosis, and leave the living flesh alone. Basically, they eat all the rotting stuff away, leaving you with a significantly cleaner wound than you would likely otherwise have.

  • ew

  • omg i bet the doctors wants to get a new job after that

  • @LPSpetsFilms Strong stomachs make strong doctors :)

  • DId he die from the infection?

Why did he not just choose to amputate!!

  • i am starting to check my volume at 0.01..

  • thanks for your service and RIP Roy. prayers to you my man

  • I don't understand why he dumped the maggots on the table beside the leg and not onto the wound. Were these the left over maggots in the bag after the end of this part of the treatment?

The maggots secrete enzymes that liquify dead tissue and absorb the liquid through their skin. That is why they can be kept in the bag. But the movement of the maggots stimulates wound healing.

  • rest is peace roy !

  • why on earth did i end up watching these videos???? creepy!!!!

  • i would of cut my leg off> i hate bugs>>>>>

  • is it a treatment or does he have maggots inside his leg

  • @xarnoldx10 its a treatment and if he had the maggots in his leg prior to this his leg might have been in better condition i dont know i am not a doctor but the process is simple the maggots eat only dead necrotic tissues therefore allowing new muscle and nerve tissue to form

  • how does this treatment work???

  • @TheSh4adow

they eat dead tissue.. to prevent infection..

  • I don't understand how they can clean the wound from inside that lil tea bag type thing. Or if they aren't in there from the start then how do they end up inside the tea bag at the end?

  • big ol nasty infections!

  • how old was roy when he died?

  • May he rest in peace...

  • now your leg is clean... :-)

  • poor guy, i hope that he rests in peace now

  • how did he get this?

  • @jennyblessings The wound may come from Diabetes or some kind of disease. The maggots have been placed in the wound to eat the dead tissue so that the wound won't get any bigger and spread for all I know. This guy probably had the option to either amputate the leg or trying to save it by letting maggots eat the dead tissue so that the wound can grow back to normal again.

  • Was the cause of death related to this treatment or wound?

  • @mak3myda3 I expect so. He had various different types of treatment over many months.

  • @pinknonsense how much can cost one of these therapies...roughly...?

  • @IronSerb I have no idea - didn't ask.

  • @IronSerb

    cheaap

  • I hope you get well soon, or I hope you're well. :)

  • @leapesquira

I am fine thanks but Roy, the patient died six months after I filmed this.

  • @pinknonsense

why did he die? because of sepsis shock ?

  • @pinknonsense shouldve cut his leg and he still would be alive

  • @pinknonsense Why didn't he amputate his leg? I'm sorry for your loss, too

  • @pinknonsense Why he died?

  • @desolationofsmaug

I can tell you it does smell very unpleasant. I was there filming it, remember!

The maggots remove the biofilm that keeps accumulating - an assortment of bacteria in a sticky layer.

  • He's a god damn army vet. The state should pay for 100% of his medical treatment.

  • how old was mr. Roy?

  • @oleksiypilyugin He was in his early 60s.

  • Must smell great!

  • it hurts!

  • Man medicine is amazing :)

  • if i had a foot like that, i would just cut if off :/

  • @Groezeiuch Me too man. I wouldn't be able to live like that.

  • what happen if they leave the maggots in there for too long and they morph into flies? lol

  • RIP Roy, thank you for serving our country

  • This made me cry.

  • @jillian4393

Sorry to make you cry. I did fly over and visit him again in Texas about 6 months later and we went out for lunch. A few days after that I heard that poor Roy had died, and he was at peace.

  • They can consume bacteria and dead flesh, which they seperate from living flesh and can save lifes.

  • did it really healed the leg? to me it still looks bad with the maggots and all...

  • why didnt he just getit amputated??

  • @joegirl123456 Would you rather lose a leg or try and heal it ?

  • Poor guy, he doesn't look too happy :( I wouldn't either but look how fast they move!!!

  • leeches i can deal with but MAGGOTS???? what the hell???

  • Great now I can't stop itching.

  • I wonder cant the venture inside the body?

  • now my legs are tingling...

  • what happened to him, why his leg is damaged

  • @swamigal

It was 3 and a half years ago so I don't remember exactly without looking up my notes and blog at amazingphage.info, but Roy wasa US Army veteran and had then put on a great deal of weight. He had a gastric banding op but he was not eating well at all when I visited - he had very thin skin on his legs and any little bump at work as a postal operator had caused it to blister and get infected. He had spent a fortune on medical care and IV antibiotics and so he wanted alternatives.

  • what was wrong with his leg? diabetes?? what is debridement????

  • OMG I HATE MAGGOTZ

  • poor guy. rip

  • AWESOME

  • better than Mr Muscle, brilliant clean :)

  • i rather cut my leg

  • nothing a bucket of thiners wont fix ;)

  • ...ITCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • wow!

  • why do people get putten maggots?

  • i would be liike " eww wtf GET THEMM OFF!!"

  • I hope this guy is okay. Poor fellow.

  • wow wow wow

  • sterile maggots can be helpful in cleaning meny infected wounds as they are good at eating dead tissue but cant even touch living tissue for some reason

  • help me... cant stop watching maggot therapy o_o

  • Gosh, thats nasty

  • What happens to the maggots after the tharapy? I think they should be set free to live a full and happy life.

  • @benadril They die after 24 hours when they reach adult hood AKA a fly

  • was he diabetic? poor old lad :( hope he died peacefully amongst his loved ones. RIP.

  • wow

  • rest in peace old boy.....

  • so amazing how many people have been saved by this therapy !

  • what does it feel like with the maggots underneath the bandages.

  • how come the maggots in the leg?

  • does that smell bad?

  • Mmmm - yes, sometimes it did.

  • @pinknonsense what did it feel like having maggots in your leg? and did they get them all out when your real skin healed? was it painful? could you feel them eating? sorry for all the questions

  • @silentpounce

The patient was a US army veteran in his early 60s, not me - I was visiting the USA to research various treatment methods. This patient's leg did not get better and he died 6 months later. It was painless having maggot therapy and he much preferred it to some of the other options like physical debridement ttwo or three times a week. He had received masses of IV antibiotics over that time and was feeling very unwell generally.

  • @pinknonsense they didnt put enough maggots thats probably why the wound didnt heal well.

  • @joannegrove it sure did.

  • i'd rather have my foot cut off than filled with maggots.

    it's a little phoby i have.

  • Faced with the actual choice of losing your own foot, I think you'd be a little more keen on the idea.

  • I'm sorry he died, he does look like he was a great man. God bless him and RIP :(

  • @Star13570 The maggots are placed when they are very young, after the treatment they are usually either thrown out or the doctors take them back and send them off to specialized contractors who allow them to mature and breed new maggots for them

  • wat do u do to the maggots???do u recycle them??i mean are they goin g to die???or do u keep them so they can produce more????just asking thanks

  • they have like breeding tanks , and theyre one use maggots , they put the maggots in alchahol after the procedure to kill them

  • OMG! I feel so sorry for him!

  • he looks like hes enjoying itt lol

  • ...there goes my appetite for the week...

  • OMNOMNOMNOMNOM, these maggots must have really appreciated all the dead flesh, they look bigger than when they are only small small maggots.

  • No dead looking flesh...makes healing faster, not a bad idea actually.

  • god bless him. RIP

  • god bless

  • Was this at BAMC?

  • y did he die? i thougth maggot therapy help him?

  • was is das denn ????

  • This looks like an diabetic leg

  • OUCHHHHHHHH man i'd hate to have that honestly i wish all the best for you and i hope you get well soon

  • he died . . . RIP

  • Roy never screamed. He was a gentleman, an army veteran and he died peacefully a few months later. It was a pleasure to know him. The silence at the beginning of this video is a mark of respect and confidentiality between patient and doctor in a medical setting.

  • Did he died of the infection?

  • may god bless him

  • how did he died?? RIP,,,,,sir.

where do you get the maggot??

  • @pinknonsense so what did he die from as i am wondering from

  • He can't be too far from amputation if this doesn't heal up.

I imagine the beginning the silent so we couldn't hear his screams.

  • Those little critters can move when the lights are on!

  • Theyed want to be sterile maggots wouldnt they.

  • Its not like they take rotten fruit and pick maggots out of it lol. They grow sterile maggots in a lab.

  • ITS DISGUSTING.....BUT AWESOME!!!!

  • ok let me tell everyone this slowly when someones body part is infected or diseased they put maggets on it the maggets eat away the dead tissue and leave the health tissue to grow so there wound doesnt hurt no more for the disease

  • these larvae are devouring the dead tissue letting oneself new to build .

This is power of the nature

  • maggots eats the dead tissue

  • wait how does this maggot therapy work?

  • maggots eat the dead skin that's infecting his leg

  • The maggots eat away the dead and infected tissue

  • The maggots eat away dead and diseased tissue. Their saliva, which contains a bacteria that promotes healthy tissue growth, is left behind and helps the wounds to heal.

  • I can't believe I'm watching this while eating lunch. What's my problem?

  • Maggot therapy is almost 100x cheaper then if they went in to cut the old dead skin out. Maggots cost about few hundred for the hole process VS 15,000 to 25,000 to have your leg cut off and more days in the hospital and learning to walk all over again with new leg which will cost about a nother 5,000 to 15,000

  • see what god made cures...

  • Oh man thats horrible to watch..

  • seen as its a totally ntural process wouldnt mind having theese totally sterile insects cure me of any rotting wound

  • is maggot therapy good?

  • its painless, but is no more effective than other methods. Of course not having much pain is much better than lots of pain if using other methods :(

  • its painless?rly?

  • no maggots Only eat ROTTEN flesh or bacteria they dont eat FRESH meat.

  • fresh meat still implies its dead, they can ONLY break down necrotised cells, living cells cannot be liquidised and so are not touched

  • hows the leg now? I watched this vid because we are learning about wound care in nursing school.

  • where did all the maggots go?

  • i don't know...

  • they got stuck to the gauss

  • This was on a visit to a private wound care clinic in Lubbock, Texas, not a British hospital.

  • must have been expensive. It's insane why you have to pay for your healthcare, thats just wrong having to pay for something that you have no choice over...

  • Someone should turn their mobile phone off, they're not allowed in hospitals.

  • where at n tx?

  • wats that hole in his foot? is that a bullet wound? and wouldint the maggots just go inside the body

  • they need to put some more on the foot
