I don't think that it's completly true. But romantic comedies and movies\tv shows in general DO give out the wrong idea of what real relationships are. It's just a matter of not being so naive about life.
It's pretty ironic to talk about a movie right now, but have you ever seen "500 Days Of Summer"? The guy was so convinced love was what the industry said it was that when he had his first real relationship things didn't go as he expected it.
I watch Anime. Now I'm waiting for an alien girl to crash land in my yard and live with me while she tries to repair it, or a vampire girl to keep me as a food source. Why can't there be relationships like that?
They are 100 percent correct. People like to take from the movies, and place it in real life. That's not how we should live. The movies are not real life. That's why people say "communication" is one of the most important things in a relationship. Also, there might be someone for most people, but people ruin that by wanting what they want at that very moment. Life does not work like that, either. It takes time to get people, just like it takes time to get things.

Then at the end they rectify everything. And through 99 percent of the movie any rational person watching it is trying not to throw up in their mouth.

I completely AGREE! I'm a woman and I do watch "that crap" sometimes, but the whole idea of "the one" and synchronicity etc drives me crazy when people try to take it into their real lives. And men fall for this too! They want perpetual infatuation. Real relationships take work and understanding and good communications, as Ana says.
That was my first thought too. I agree romcoms are bad in that respect but commercials for example are much much worse at raising our unrealistic expectations in general.

Those movies are all the same. They meet, one of them is a total jerk who ends up kind of having a heart of gold. Somebody, probably the guy absolutely screws up at some point. Then at the end they rectify everything. And through 99 percent of the movie any rational person watching it is trying not to throw up in their mouth.
Some are fun enough, you just can't take them serious at all. They're fluff, it's like going to McDonald's, all empy calories.

I've seen a couple of these types of movies and it doesn't really seem like the perfect relationships anyway. The girl is usually dating another guy at first of something; not a good way to start a relationship. If anything these types of movies probably encourage cheating or something lol.

I am a woman that HATES romantic comedies, pretty much for the reasons they listed. I always end up feeling like shit toward the end. Like the women are so lucky in these movies, and I am just unlucky or something.
That said... I think romantic comedies ruin relationships as much as porn does. Men have unrealistic ideas of what sex is supposed to be like, and think we walk around horny all the time.
