The voice is a bit high-pitched, but I do enjoy the instrumentals a bit better than the original. This one doesn't have breaks that sound like they're headed into a different song altogether. If this could be combined with the Cat Power one from the Lincoln commercial, it could be a real hit. David Bowie had a good idea, but I just don't think he had it perfectly presented, but I'll give 'im a little break what with the technology of music production and presentation when it was first performed.

While I'm not bashing, I have to admit I'm not captivated by Emillie's cover. I think Cat Power does a much better job of encapsulating Bowie's original essence in her version. And I wouldn't say that Emillie sounds like a chipmunk, but her voice (in this song) isn't aurally satisfying. Nice work on the video though. The imagery is well suited.

Émilie Simon sings absolutely beautifully, and while her English songs aren't generally the most amazing things I've ever heard, they're still pretty darn spiffy. I find it rather amusing how people can waste their time to troll in the comments section of a video/song they dislike, as opposed to leaving the page. ;)

I'm glad you appreciate the song. I found it particularly touching, but I understand everyone has their own tastes and experiences. Not to mention, those who grew up with the original version and such. I just wish they knew the difference between fact and opinion. ;)

I loved Emilie's other works, especially her album Vegetal, but I feel like she didnt capture the mellow mood that Bowie set for this song. Grant it this is her interpretation of the song and it does have the signature sound that she portrays in her other songs, I just feel that an artist like her has to alot into consideration when covering a song from an artist of Bowies caliber

I loved this version. I am not a fan of David Bowie's version even though he was the originator. I do love the song itself though.

I have searched and searched for a cover of it that I liked and when I cam across this I was amazed.

The only other version that I truly enjoy is the one done by 'Cat Power', but I cannot find their full version of it - only the 35 second bit from the Lincoln commercial.

I love the video (ten thumbs up)....Now I've heard like 8 covers so far...Natalie Merchant's cover was right on, same with Gnarles Barkley. This cover is..I dunno, I personally dont like it, that much. The BEST cover of it is by Atsushi Sakurai (He kinda looks like an asian Johnny Depp),someone who probably doesnt speak english. The worst cover being Jacob Hoggard.

Personally, I wasn't aware of the song until I heard Emilie's version.. then, I heard David's version and was like... "whoa.." ... yeah, definitely owned by Emilie (with all do respect)

But this version has actually managed to touch my heart to the point of tears.. Bowies' version is just more.. harsh/hard.. but still good. ;)

I'm sorry to contradict you.. =( But Emilie Simon actually does sing this song, it even has some of her French accent in it (plus the countdown is in French as well) I downloaded the song from a special Emilie Website song.. plus, it's even on her official MySpace website.

Maybe Cat Powers has a similar version? Check it out and compare.. ;)
