I knew I better go see Sarah when she came to San Fran, since I loved her recordings. So I did, and before she left the stage, she took her bows. I was right up front standing room only and some of us reached out. I thanked her loudly and she took my hand and smiled. I was one of the lucky ones to feel her warm hand grasp which was so sincere. Two years later I heard it on the radio that she had died that day. There is a certain feeling you get that can't be described. A legend was gone.
I never heard "Sunny" changed to be a man! Interesting interpretation. I always assumed Sunny could only be a female, but no more. A lot of the performers now, intentionally or not, seem to be imitating Sassy, an original.
"when sunny gets blue"...this is the best rendition of this tune I've ever heard and sets the standard very high. Sarah's bluesy voice and the great guitar comping gives one the feel of an intimate ,low key little jazz club, and we've got front row seats!
This is Ms Sassy, The Divine One, Ms Sarah Vaughn, Mike. She and Nat Cole re-introduced me to jazz when I was a kid at 19, back in 1989. She's a true MASTER, an old gladiator as we call them!
This is the fabulous Sarah Vaughan may she RIP. She was an American talent who sang the range of different songs with a voice that melts, improvises and creates beautiful notes that will live forever in CD's. Love this woman.

The depth of emotion, the phrasing, the smoke-tuned timbre, the unexpected leaps, the voice of survival—no other female could match it.
