Gwar. WoW is built off Warcraft which is built off Warhammer Fantasy which takes heavy influence from LOTR and makes it a hell of a lot more gritty and gloomy. So in short this particular bit of copying is just another little footnote on the end of a long line of other ones.

I've always been a fan of tolkien and his books. Read them all, and grown up with video games. So this will be interesting to try out. Visually it looks quite cool and good imo. Looks like they've captured the geographics and the "tone" of tolkiens world. Don't know however how the gameplay is. But as said, will be interesting to find out.

There are plenty of players. Most of which are 18+ hardly any kids left on the game, which is a plus at least in my opinion.

Id say every server has a decent population around 4000-7000 active or so.

I've played wow, swg, guildwars, a bit of everquest, is this game as fun?

I currently play wow, have 3 level 70's and I am sick of looking at it, so I need to take a break. Is LOTRO a nice change that I wont get quickly bored with?

How does it deal with lag, does it just slow you down or make you jump and randomly run around and make the game look terrible because of your latency?

they have plans to increase xp gained from killing mobs and completing quests from levels 1-58, i believe, so it wont take "forever" to hit atleast 70(lvl60-70 is pretty easy considering the extremely easy quests) but it may take some time. Not to mention the extra 10 when the new xpac hits
