  • I really love listening to the Cars and didn't realize how great a singer Ben Orr was until I looked back at some of these performances. We'll never forget you Ben.

  • ben was a great singer!!!!!

  • 0:18...red hawaiian shirt...

gene simmons was FAT in '85!!

  • Ben, I can't wait to meet you in rock n' roll heaven! :)

  • CHILDREN OF BODOM ENOUGH SAID

  • Favorite F*ckin Cars Song

  • @Jaysond78 And doesn't "Let's Go" sound great on the car radio?

  • Hats off to Ric Ocasek, the composer, for letting Ben Orr take the spotlight for 'Let's Go'. A great song is forever!

  • I was at this concert and will never forget it. I was (and am) a huge fan of The Cars and this was a very special night for me. One of the best concerts I have ever seen, and I have seen a lot of big bands live. Will always miss Ben Orr.

  • Another talented Ohio boy Benjaman ORR!

  • thats awesome i see myself in the crowd just at the 18 to 20 second on the counter, i went to see the cars each time they came to houston, this is great,

  • my so proud of the cars and my hometown crowd!!! the cars = one of america's best 80's bands (with lasting power to today and beyond!). houston "the cars" fan presence = the raddest looking 80's crowd i have just about ever seen (check out the guy with the tommy bahamas and sunglasses near the beginning! :P) RADICAL :D!

  • Elliot easton is beast at guitar 2:55

  • EXCELLENT performance! I LOVE how he sang it here...always sang everything so wonderfully... Benjamin, you'll always be The MAN!!

  • Ben had the killer voice and delivery...love it!

  • cars play that song so often they need to shake it up lest they sound stale.

steely dan's 2 against nature tour, saw donald fagan substitute aretha franklin--queen of soul for otis redding-king of soul on their classic, hey 19.

well, he was collectively booed and throttled for an hour by an irate audience and they ran him out of town on a rail. they'll never play nissan pavillion again. people just don't abide tampering. with their ticket prices, they ought to be redubbed, stealing hand.

  • where is that guitar strap ric is using from?

  • tempo is too fast

  • @sithyness sounds about right to me. This is definitely an up tempo tune.

  • @sithyness your mom :-|

  • @thelurker25

    no u :p

  • @sithyness (too fast) they may have had a curfew or been on restriction that month and just needed to get home before their parents locked them out. whatever the case, 7-11 stays open like 24/7...where's the fire, boys?

  • @sithyness

I dont see anything wrong with it at all.

  • Benjamin Orr is simply awesome and he is sooooooo beautiful!

  • que en paz descanse ese maestro ..the cars forever!

  • They were great 'live'. Ben is awesome here as always.

  • paz descanses colorado ..cantabas bien.........

  • LOL kingo I totally agree. They are killing the old songs

  • All we have now are the crappy new cars.

  • phish does suck but they dont suck as msuch as the grateful dead

  • Ric is cool. That's his persona and his fabricated character. Ric is iconic. Ben has to be one of the most beautiful people ever on a stage, but what do people remember from the poster? That oh-so-cool dashing figure of Ric in those glasses with that angular jacket and his quirky looks. Each one is an essential ingredient. Ric can probably do a lot more than what you see in the Cars.

  • This version is really exciting. Wish I could've seen them live.

  • Great song.

  • Phish sucks. Wannabe Grateful Dead

  • @20carrocks

Leave the hate. This post is about The Cars. The Cars is an awesome American band that has earned it's place in the history of modern music!!

  • DAVID, no puedo evitar acelerarme cada vez que te veo, qué ritmo tienes !!! Eres lo más atractivo que ha parido madre mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

  • Comment removed

  • I like the way Ben sings in this one

  • Wow, this is serious live. Lol. They're not lip-syncing! LOVE IT. LOL.

  • Well, it's a shame that Benji Orr died (bass player/singer), or they might have checked in at the reunion hotel someday. Hell, everyone else is.

  • This band is so awesome! IT broke up way to quick.

  • This band broke up too quick

  • 1984. I was 12. Australia. Trapped in a cult school. It was another year 'til I was to discover the freedom of The Cars :)

    ...haven't stopped driving since...vrrrooooooom

  • great piece captured

  • I've watch a few Cars videos both live and stuff off the records. I see that Ben Orr is doing lead vocs on the live stuff and Ric Ocasek isn't singing or doing backups. I always assumed that was him on all the records. Did he choose not to do the lead singing on the live material?

  • I know I thought the same thing too

  • I used to think so as well, but Ben Orr was the glue of most of the hits. It was quite a realization check when I discovered this, but Ben ruled. These tapes show it.

  • Ric and Ben each had songs where they were the lead vocalist. It doesn't have anything to do with it being live. Ben had Drive, Let's Go, Just What I Needed, etc. Ric had You Might Think, Magic, Hello Again, Tonight She Comes, Shake It Up, etc. I have seen an interview where they discussed how songs were split up between the two of them. It was simply a matter of whose voice fit best with the song.

  • no ben just sang some songs on the albums but he didnt do all the songs on the albums or live in concert there is plenty of songs rick is doing in concert,i cant believe ben is dead he wasnt that old i wonder what he died from.

  • panceatic cancer

  • this is what I love about true artists having distinctive sounds. American Idols cant be taught this whatsoever.

  • yeahs its sad so many new music artists cant play anything at all all the new music is just computer generated.

  • Hell yes. God, that show sucks..

  • Make that pancreatic cancer, and you're right. Lol, and it's Ric. xD They shared songs, like whoever that was down there said. *points*

  • I wish I could've been there!! Thanks for uploading--cool to see them performing like this.

  • Fuck You tube for making me "unscramble" the fancy words so I can keep commenting..... Fuck limits...

Thats what this site is for isn't it....

I didn't know Ticketmaster manged this site !!!!!

If they want to pull my plug then pull it ......

My world does not revolve around limits ..

RIP Benjamin.... Drive was an awesome song.... now where was I ??? LOL

  • Is that Ben playing or did Don Johnson sit in? :')

  • Ben`s voice excellent, as always..But I like older version of this song (from Candy-O album). Awesome concert! I wished I was there...

  • I think this version is so much better than the original...the driving drums carry the song much better, and Ben's vocals have an intensity and immediacy that, while present in the original, are amplified in this terrific live version.

  • elliott is a bad mofo.

  • I attended this concert.

  • Wow! I wished I was there! Ben is AWESOME!

  • David, David, David Ohhhh, siiiiiiiiiiiii

  • I love the part at 02:18, Ric looks awesome as hell :O So fucking stylish(don't think I'm against Ben, I'm just more into Ric)

    RIP Ben Orr!

  • He died of cancer.

  • Wow. I really dug the synth part on the Jupiter 8 from 1:00 to 1:08. Great job Greg!

They had two Jupiter 8's? NO FAIR! :(

  • Killer performance. Is this from a concert video?

  • Benjamin Orr rest in peace.

  • How did he die? I didn't hear about it.

  • Who you calling passive-aggressive? IM full on aggressive fuck you very much. Prince is good. The Cars are better. Aggressively speaking.

  • The Cars were great live. I saw them a few times back in the 80s.

  • MistaRowland- get your facts straight, and get your hearing checked. the Cars are one of the best live bands ever.

  • :18-:20 You can see my mom. I wish i was at that concert

  • lucky her

  • that guy is your mom XD

  • I love the part at 02:18, Ric Ocasek looks awesome as hell, just like Benjamin Orr.

  • i listen to all Christian music except for the Cars... the reason: THEY DON'T CUSS UNLIKE ALMOST ALL ROCK BANDS NOW

  • After that song goes Heartbeat City!

  • *giggles* Two days ago I said "Let's go!" to my new guy! <3<3<3 Not quite the same but we both giggle like we're 16 again with each other!

This song can sure make your passions soar!

  • Wow! Hot! "I Like The Night Life, Baby - Sheee

    Said!" I Love The Cars!

  • I was lucky enough to be at this concert....Much younger then... What a night;)

  • WOW!! That's so cool!

My connection with this song is from when it first came out, I was 14 in '79, met 'this' boy, he played the record and sang this song while we danced to it when I was 15. I heard the gunshot that killed him when I was 16... this song/video is helping me heal, I had forgotten about that night. :) Only love heals everything.

  • A few weeks ago, I saw the same video of this song at the same concert and the mix sounded absolutely horrible. I wondered why this happened. I've been trying to find the version of the song again, but I can't. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

  • God bless you, Ben! You are truly missed :(

    Thanks for the memories, R.I.P.

  • great voice, excellent guitar

  • Elliot Easton is awesome.

  • yep!

  • these guys wrote some of the catchiest songs ever

  • bull he will most likely try to sample it and steal it like all the other rock songs they stole

  • The Summit was great for sporting events, concerts, etc. Unfortunately, it

was renovated, and converted into a TV

evangelist church which could have been

    built somewhere else.....

  • im living in Houston now, were was this recorded? The Summit doesnt exist

  • In the late 90s early 2000's it was changed from the Summit to the Compaq Center, then once Enron Field, The Toyota Center and Reliant Stadium were built it was essentially abandoned, much like The Astrodome. What you know today as the main campus of Lakewood Church run by Joel Osteen is believe it or not where this concert was recorded.

  • Is that David Robinson on drums? He's tight and in the pocket

  • Ben Orr rocks! Still, this was THE worst show I ever saw. Wang Chung (their opener) outperformed the Cars. The 80s were peaking and these guys came out bored and detached. Worse still, it took like 10 minutes in-between song. They said nothing. Terrible.

  • what rot.they never lost it.WANG CHUNG!? what crap.

  • AWESOME. Ben Orr was the best!

  • lame

  • this was from an MTV concert, wasn't it? back when they played music.

  • Excellent!!!

  • I hope Jay-Z watches this and then he will realise he has no talent and disappear.

  • We Miss Ya Ben, RIP. The Cars Rule!

  • Instrumental Mastery!

  • Ben was great. Sorry he is gone.

  • Prince has covered this song in concert recently.

  • He did and I was there. He completely nailed it and played it better than these guys ever have (no disrespect to Ben).

  • ain't nothin' like the real thang..babee

  • I never saw them live, but from the clips i've seen I don't see what you mean.

I do agree some bands are much better live.

I remember even the great "Boston" on their 1st tour i saw them, they had trouble reproducing what Sholtz had created on their historic debut lp peace..

  • On all the clips I've seen here they sound really good - some better than others. Some are excellent.

Do you mean you want them to prance around the stage with bare chests, glittering afros and pink boots while whipping crawling girls wearing dog collars? Is that your idea of an "amazing performer"? :-/

  • Wow! Yeah, I was there also.

    I was 19 years young.

  • Wow does this bring back memories. I was 20 when i went to this concert at the Summitt in 1984, man i miss those years. Now I have kids older than that. The Cars are still awesome.

  • classic

  • Great song! Ben songs were always my favorite Cars songs. R.I.P. BEN!

  • voila bien un groupe qui plait a ces gros porcs yankee de youtube bises marion

  • Well ypseratos, I think this group appeals to more than just "those fat youtube yankee pigs" as you call them.

  • AWESOME VID

    R.I.P. BEN

  • One of my favorite Cars' songs. We miss you Ben!

  • wow , thy absolutely nailed that. Who ever did the mics did a fantastic job.

  • Finally somebody puts the Cars best song on the tube. About time! :)

  • the cars rock. listen to the fall out boy cover of good times roll and sob as they butcher it. fob sound like a fukn garage band. the cars are classic

  • Amen to that! Down with carbon-copy band covers! Up with originality! \^0^/

  • easily one of the greatest rock songs ever written.

  • great song

  • this song is awesome all around....

  • one of my favorite cars songs. and we all do miss him
