I've ridden unbroken mustangs and started my friend's two year old Hano gelding with no helmet, I was the first one on his back. It's all a matter of how the horse is and you need to adjust the approach depending on what you know the horse can handle at the moment mentally.

This kind of ignorance produces fearful animals w/lots of behavioral problems. If the horse has never been ridden before you should take it slow and let him know you are there. Gain his trust then try to ride. That could have ended very badly with you getting thrown on the fence, against the trailer, ran over and fro the others helping you could have gotten hurt badly also. And flip flops were a stupid idea. :P

That looks like fairly new barbed wire. If it is, it is a veterinarian's dream come true. Horses and other animals who get into that get sliced and diced and require the services of a vet. Look how close these folks are to the fence, with an out of control 1,000 pound animal. Wow!
oh and just in case, i absolutely adore horses, but applying no discipline when the horse(or any animal for that matter) does something wrong is bad for the animal and person handling him, and fyi giving a beating is not discipline, theres a fine difference between the two

I have seen many horses broken and many tamed... the tamed horses ar 3 and 4 entering in parades and will follow the riders at a w/t/c and back up without a halter on. That was some ride! takes a bit of cold blood to stay on like that and just judge when the best time is to try to get down. That looks like fairly new barbed wire. If it is, it is a veterinarian's dream come true. Horses and other animals who get into that get sliced and diced and require the services of a vet. Look how close these folks are to the fence, with an out of control 1,000 pound animal. Wow!

oh and just in case, i absolutely adore horses, but applying no discipline when the horse(or any animal for that matter) does something wrong is bad for the animal and person handling him, and fyi giving a beating is not discipline, theres a fine difference between the two
but just that being like "awwww poor darling" is not good for the pet, gawd watch some of Cesar Millan's shows, he works with dogs but the basics are the same(staying calm & relaxed, discipline, become his leader)

They are obviously being stupid, hell the guy was trying to jump on before his friend even had the bridal buckled. The horse will live people!! What was lucky is the idiot did not get his foot and flop caught in the stirrup and get dragged to death. They should not of been in between the trailer and the fence either. It is clear that they were not thinking straight.

This is a perfect example of what NOT to do when trying to "ride" (and I use the term loosely) a horse. @Blackveilizzy whn you break a horse you destroy it, that is why it is broken. I have seen many horses broken and many tamed... the tamed horses ar 3 and 4 entering in parades and will follow the riders at a w/t/c and back up without a halter on. The broken horses, 3 are used for beginer lessons and hold their head to the ground. Thunder (my personal favorite) is grazing the day away, The man that "broke" him? oh he'll be geting out of the hospital in about 3 weeks, if he lives.

Danger danger....I don't think I'd be trusting the horse to remember that the fence isn't something to run into or throw you into...Try going with a bit more practice mounting before considering to actually throw a leg over. It really hurts to hit the ground! Nobody wants a horse to learn that habit...Good luck!

Don't even read the crap about all the things these know-it-all guys tell you you have to do to be a horseman. Just don't abuse the animal and have all the fun you need. That was some ride! takes a bit of cold blood to stay on like that and just judge when the best time is to try to get down. I was getting worried for you, but saw you just held on till you figured it was time. No one got hurt so no problem. Its original stuff like this that makes it worthwhile checking around for horse stuff.

You should let the horse know you first befour you get on!! This is funny maybe you guys are just doing it to get a laugh out of it lol. Oh and riding in sandles isn't a problem i ride in shorts and sandles everytime i go riding lol You really do need to get back on that horse though or else she's gonna keep doing the same thing cause she known's she can get by with it.
