  • Rob Zombie didnt ruin Halloween. The sequals fucked it up. Zombie made Michael Myers cool again. John Carpenter's Halloween is obviously the best. The people that say Zombie ruined Halloween are just ignorant people who just don't get it.

  • @The21925movieguy I can understand how people would prefer RZ's to some of the sequels just as a movie. But don't you feel that he didn't get the point of why Myers was scary in the first place? What he ruined was the mystique of Myers and showed us too much of a back story that didn't service the story. It was almost as if Myers was supposed to be some kind of fucked up anti-hero.

Add in H2 and I wonder where they can go from there? Seems like there's no more room for anything else.

  • @RobesMarlin I do prefer John Carpenter's Halloween rather than Zombie's. He had to do that with Myers or then people would be complaining about robs halloween being the same as Carpenter's.

  • RZ didn't ruin the franchise. Ever see Halloween Resurrection? That movie featured a kung fu scene b/w Michael and Busta Rhymes. it was cool to see another director's take on the Myers legend. doesn't ruin the franchise. the original will always remain a classic

  • @blackman26 Deffs True man.

  • I want to hear more of what Carpenter had to say about the evil in the town he grew up in.

  • Lol "Rob zombie tottally ruined halloween" xD GET.A.Fucking.Life. move on!

  • ROB ZOMBIE ruined it.

  • Lol 2:25 to 2:32 John: "Terrible stuff isn't it?" He just dismisses what the interviewer is saying altogether.

  • Does anyone notice that, the interviewer kind of looks like Seth Rogen a little?

  • No offense but I dont get why ppl hate the Remake so much....they are 2 different visions you idiots....you can still go back an watch the original films

  • John writes the scrip, directs the film and writes the music for it. What a complete filmmaker!!

  • @TKTnetwork Kinda like Jim Cameron, who worked on his other movie, Escape From New York.

  • this doesnt seem like a 50's or 60's time. it seemed like the 70's

  • rob zombies remake of the first was a uneeded, but in my opinion he did deliver in the second ones.

  • My personal fav JC film is "They Live", but "Halloween" is his trademark film------and another of my personal favorites

  • the first time i saw this 8 (now 14) that part when the lights go out the score goes at the same time scared the shit out of me especially michael myers mask the shatner mask really scary looking

  • John Carpenter is such a delight to listen to. He has a quirky and cynical out-look on life, but he's a realist and the subject and tone of his movies reflect what happens in real life. An extremely intelligent and interesting man.

  • I wish he would've explained why Michael was looking at his hand & not his victim as he stabbed his sister. I'd love to hear any theories!

  • @melfaery

I've wondered about that shot too....maybe it works as a sort of disconnect....Myers is like watching himself almost from a 3rd person POV.....that is how the character seems to behave....don't know for sure though!

  • There is nothing better than a director talking turkey over his films! This is one of the best Carpenter interviews out there.

  • The remake wasnt really all that bad. I prefer the first half more though, because once Michael gets to Haddonfield, it just seems like a shot for shot remake of Carpenter's film, but I loved all of the sanitarium stuff, but Zombie should just stick to his own material cause Devil's Rejects was flat out amazing. Corpses sucked, but Reject's was awesome.

  • the best horror ever made my favz always have been

  • What a great piece. Thanks for posting this. John is a true genius. This film was shot in 21 days and on a budget of $300,000.

    The shots were unbelievable

    Tx

  • Boy,

I love this kind of stuff.

  • robie zombie should take some lessons with john carpenters before doing that shit, zombie isnt even close carpenter. shame on you zombie... (sorry about the english)

  • Carpenter is a legend!!

  • i wonder how old this interview is, where did you find it?

  • @TheeOneWhoTalks It says it's from 1999.

  • That litte bump and other things give the Movie the little querks but also make a little more real

  • I always get a chubby at 3:00

  • De Palma borrows this type of P.O.V. shot at the beginning of "Blow Out (1981)

  • I love how this film juxtoposes the 'perfect' white bread all American town with an evil that can not be defined or locked down. Whom does Myers represent? He can't be given an easy label or tag. Does he represent the evil lurking under the surface of every human consciousness or soemthing completly that becomes incarnate in Humanity?

  • When Carpenter said "I learn from evil from that perfect little town", Kermode shouldn't have moved on to something else. It was interesting, he should have stuck with it and ask John what he meant by that.

  • In fact Kermode is probably referencing 'Fire Walk With Me'....as I know that he is quite a fan of that particular Lynch film....much like I am.

Hallowe'een is such a massively influential film.

  • Ha, ha....Kermode you beauty...Twin Peaks!!!

That's exactly what I've thought....especially some scenes from Lynch's 'Fire Walk With Me'...it looks almost exactly the same as the Hallowe'en scenes with the girls walking to and from school.

I thought no-one would ever pick up on that....good call Mark.

Thanks for the video...not seen it before.

  • the little things like the knife being out the getting kinda knocked adds so much to the movie

  • Who is William Shatner? mask ? :S wtf? :S

  • Great video!! Halloween forever!!!

  • John Carpenter should have done the remake of Halloween. NOT ROB ZOMBIE!!!

  • There shouldn't have been a remake in the first place.

  • @CampBlood138 Yeah.

  • @CampBlood138 I could not agree with any more, Rob Zombie ruined Halloween man

  • @CampBlood138 Exactly.

  • @CampBlood138 amen to that. i thought the friday the 13 and nightmare on elm street remakes did justce to the original. but halloween one was shiiithouse

  • @1990smithers I thought Halloween and Nightmare were not only bad remakes, but of the worst films I've ever seen in my film. Yick. Friday was no worse than the original films, though.

  • I don't agree. Although the original is far, far superior to the remake, I liked what Rob Zombie did, and I thought he handled the remake well without copying exactly what John Carpenter did, and if he had copied the movie frame for frame it would've been pointless.

    Just my $0.02.

  • I agree even though there was a couple alright scenes in it. Zombie did blow both part 1 and H2's ending was a joke...

  • @jones152 i can amen to that.

  • @jones152 rob zombie's version is alright, interesting rewriting I found. Didn't like the end of the film though. But the guy's a great director and devil's rejects is like the best movie ever. And he and carpenter are friends btw

  • @jones152 As much as I love Carpenter, we've already seen his Halloween, I don't see the point in having him remake it. While wew got mixed results, I'm glad Zombie gave a fresh take on Halloween (particularly in the sequel) rather than just the same thing all over again.

  • @jones152 no remakes. come up with NEW ideas or if you do a remake keep it close to the book, not the holywood junk

  • Has John Carpenter done/planning to do anything since he did that Masters of Horror thing?

I wonder why he waited so long to direct anything until that...

  • He has claimed to have had an idea for a sequel to The Thing, although he hasn't suggested how far in the development process this idea is, or given any idea of when it will begin production.

So I guess "watch this space" is the best thing to say about that.

  • he also based michael myers on another movie the it was about a girl who wore a mask but all you could see was her eyes

  • ive seen this movie 500,000 times, ive scoped out every detail (or so i thought), but i NEVER saw the palm trees! (5:10).

lots of good tips and information on making movies. excellent interview.

  • damn i have to go to the gym but this way interesting :)

  • Is this interview on the DVD ? Im thinking of buying this movie, should I get the sequels too ?

  • haloween 1 and 2 are directed by john carpenter and the rest arent as good

so only get those-this interview is from some england show and as far as i know isnt on any of the dvds!

  • halloween 2 wasnt directed by carpenter. he did produce it. rich rosenthal or something directed part 2.

  • Wow none of you have any idea about Halloween. Halloween was directed by John Carpenter, and Halloween II was directed by RICK (not Rich) Rosenthal. And I have the DVD and no this is an exclusive interview, in fact it's my first time seeing this interview. And all of you should know that John Carpenter ONLY directed Halloween!! He never did the sequels, and never ever wanted to. Rick Rosenthal was the only person to direct multiple Halloween movies. H2 (1981), and H: Resurrection (2002)

  • lol spelling mistake. rick, rich. geez youre and yeah i know carpenter didnt want sequels. i think every fan knows that. we know

  • JC and DH Wrote and Produced it, Rick Rosenthal directed it. And IMO Halloween 4 was one of the best sequels aside fro mthe first 2! :D

  • i was always pointing out the reason why to friends when michael looks at his own hand motions. glad i was right.

  • Where is this interview from? I haven't seen it on any of the DVD's..

  • Cool the movie was shot in LA & not in Haddonfield, IL.

I've seen the movie a 150 times and I have never noticed the palm trees.

    Awesome...

  • made my day XD

  • I could swear that the mask comes from the movie The Devils Rain.

  • michaels mask??

i doesent! it original star treck mask spraypainted white..

  • i never tire of hearing talk about this film.

  • very cleaver movie

  • Beaver Cleaver?

  • it's not from the 70's obviously because john looks way older with white hair then when he made the movie, in late 70's.

  • It says right in the description that this was from 1999. Mark Kermode, also says, at the beginning of the interview, that it's the 21st anniversary of, the film, "Halloween" which was made in 1978.

  • Thank you for posting this, great stuff.

  • great interview and synopsis...
