Rob Zombie didnt ruin Halloween. The sequals fucked it up. Zombie made Michael Myers cool again. John Carpenter's Halloween is obviously the best. The people that say Zombie ruined Halloween are just ignorant people who just don't get it.
@The21925movieguy I can understand how people would prefer RZ's to some of the sequels just as a movie. But don't you feel that he didn't get the point of why Myers was scary in the first place? What he ruined was the mystique of Myers and showed us too much of a back story that didn't service the story. It was almost as if Myers was supposed to be some kind of fucked up anti-hero.
Add in H2 and I wonder where they can go from there? Seems like there's no more room for anything else.
@RobesMarlin I do prefer John Carpenter's Halloween rather than Zombie's. He had to do that with Myers or then people would be complaining about robs halloween being the same as Carpenter's.
RZ didn't ruin the franchise. Ever see Halloween Resurrection? That movie featured a kung fu scene b/w Michael and Busta Rhymes. it was cool to see another director's take on the Myers legend. doesn't ruin the franchise. the original will always remain a classic
0:36 - :41 I found that out on my own.3:07 - :22 Michael has changed his life there 'forever.' 4:33 - :58 I like that. And supports From IMDb trivia: John Carpenter's intent with the character of Michael Myers was that the audience should never be able to relate to him.
No offense but I dont get why ppl hate the Remake so much....they are 2 different visions you idiots....you can still go back an watch the original films
the first time i saw this 8 (now 14) that part when the lights go out the score goes at the same time scared the shit out of me especially michael myers mask the shatner mask really scary looking
John Carpenter is such a delight to listen to. He has a quirky and cynical out-look on life, but he's a realist and the subject and tone of his movies reflect what happens in real life. An extremely intelligent and interesting man.
I've wondered about that shot too....maybe it works as a sort of disconnect....Myers is like watching himself almost from a 3rd person POV.....that is how the character seems to behave....don't know for sure though!
The remake wasnt really all that bad. I prefer the first half more though, because once Michael gets to Haddonfield, it just seems like a shot for shot remake of Carpenter's film, but I loved all of the sanitarium stuff, but Zombie should just stick to his own material cause Devil's Rejects was flat out amazing. Corpses sucked, but Reject's was awesome.
robie zombie should take some lessons with john carpenters before doing that shit, zombie isnt even close carpenter. shame on you zombie... (sorry about the english)
I love how this film juxtoposes the 'perfect' white bread all American town with an evil that can not be defined or locked down. Whom does Myers represent? He can't be given an easy label or tag. Does he represent the evil lurking under the surface of every human consciousness or soemthing completly that becomes incarnate in Humanity?
When Carpenter said "I learn from evil from that perfect little town", Kermode shouldn't have moved on to something else. It was interesting, he should have stuck with it and ask John what he meant by that.
That's exactly what I've thought....especially some scenes from Lynch's 'Fire Walk With Me'...it looks almost exactly the same as the Hallowe'en scenes with the girls walking to and from school.
I thought no-one would ever pick up on that....good call Mark.
@CampBlood138 amen to that. i thought the friday the 13 and nightmare on elm street remakes did justce to the original. but halloween one was shiiithouse
@1990smithers I thought Halloween and Nightmare were not only bad remakes, but of the worst films I've ever seen in my film. Yick. Friday was no worse than the original films, though.
I don't agree. Although the original is far, far superior to the remake, I liked what Rob Zombie did, and I thought he handled the remake well without copying exactly what John Carpenter did, and if he had copied the movie frame for frame it would've been pointless.
@jones152 rob zombie's version is alright, interesting rewriting I found. Didn't like the end of the film though. But the guy's a great director and devil's rejects is like the best movie ever. And he and carpenter are friends btw
@jones152 As much as I love Carpenter, we've already seen his Halloween, I don't see the point in having him remake it. While wew got mixed results, I'm glad Zombie gave a fresh take on Halloween (particularly in the sequel) rather than just the same thing all over again.
He has claimed to have had an idea for a sequel to The Thing, although he hasn't suggested how far in the development process this idea is, or given any idea of when it will begin production.
So I guess "watch this space" is the best thing to say about that.
Wow none of you have any idea about Halloween. Halloween was directed by John Carpenter, and Halloween II was directed by RICK (not Rich) Rosenthal. And I have the DVD and no this is an exclusive interview, in fact it's my first time seeing this interview. And all of you should know that John Carpenter ONLY directed Halloween!! He never did the sequels, and never ever wanted to. Rick Rosenthal was the only person to direct multiple Halloween movies. H2 (1981), and H: Resurrection (2002)
It says right in the description that this was from 1999. Mark Kermode, also says, at the beginning of the interview, that it's the 21st anniversary of, the film, "Halloween" which was made in 1978.

In fact Kermode is probably referencing 'Fire Walk With Me'....as I know that he is quite a fan of that particular Lynch film....much like I am.
Hallowe'een is such a massively influential film.
