  • R I P Earphones.

  • Newport Pagnell at it's best

  • @Baileco to true mate

  • FUCK IT...

Just blew the speakers on my laptop...lol

  • A bunch of sailors in bed together. Why am I not surprised by that?

  • 2:32 approx - go Grandad!

  • What a fun tune, always puts me in a good mood.

  • Jon Durno still moves his musical equipment around at that speed on gigs. Especially when packing away at the end

  • Alas, Roman Holliday is a noshow on itunes:( I had this LP, too, back in the day

  • @MsActonbell Does anyone know if it is on a compilation album somewhere????

  • @MsActonbell Yeah, why is it not on I-tunes?? Tried to download it and nothing.

Do you know where i can download it from?

  • I live in one of there's old house ! Was strange when the neighbours told me he was in a band looks like they were quite successful to :D

  • Love this..........1983 the year I left School .......All the great tunes stick in my head! lol x

  • @sablepoot1967 Yes, I graduated the same year. Rockabilly was the thing that year.

  • I bought this way back in time, great summer tune.

  • @SuperDicky71 I had bought the LP, cassette and recently the CD of their "Cookin' On The Roof".

  • When was the last time you saw a funny pop video like this? Why do musicians take themselves so seriously nowadays?

  • @geekpie100 Hanson. "Thinking Bout Something". :-)

  • These lads were quite a band, it's a shame the label tried to take them "mainstream." They had a great sound, and this video rather puts me in the mind of "The Monkees" in some ofthe antics and venues they play in the vid. Great find and thanks for posting.

  • @bigscarytigermonster Yes they were part of the rockabilly phase that hit around 82- 84. I agree. If they had continued with this style of music I would have bought every album.

  • That......was............AWESOME!!!!!!!!! I have a friend who use to work at a record store back in the 80s and I am trying to get caught up with all the music I missed due to all the abuse I took back then and I think this band is awesome!

  • hi to steve lambert, find me on facebook, shaunnalouise1974@hotmail.co.uk

  • IM a drummer myself, my passon for the music I play is from 50's 60's, 70's including the 80's. My band, greenfingers has a heart felt passon to replay songs from the past in pubs and clubs all over London and The south east. Our Shows have always gone down well with the public, However its also nice to get comments from public, saying !! its good to hear the old stuff again.

  • Its good to see some posative comments on this channel, some people can really remember, what music used to be, were bands new how to play there stuff. Sadly we may get the odd person, whom don't appreciate music at its best, However IM not knocking music of today, its that most music today is done in a studio, and not with talent. I just love the music that ment somthing.

  • @MsDrummermike Very true.

  • @MsDrummermike Well feel free to not just not knock but totally flatten it cos music today is absolute shit. The 80s rocked & is not even remembered fondly, nevermind the fact it was pretty much resented by enough people in the bloody decade that never knew they had it so bloody good-with music that is, as I know mass unemployment & greed were at toxic levels. Critics were at their most suckiest but when we need them now, where are they all. I reckon the evil Madonna had them all shot & hung.

  • Id love to see this band again, are they still togeather ? I see them at the Regal in hitchin, when they appeared on Rock around the clock in the 80's so cool.

  • @MsDrummermike No, they sadly are not still together. And this song is from their 1st album. They lost a lot of fans when they did their 2nd one. It was not this style of music.

  • "It is 80's.Very Goooood!! I remenber my youth."

    in Japanese.

  • @SuperSUMING Thank you.

  • 80年代だなあ。いいなあ,俺の青春時代。

  • @SuperSUMING What the?

  • Rnrll Doods Great to JD N Steve Regards Colin Molloy(Sammys band remember)

  • Are Roman Holiday still going can anyone tell me ???

  • Bob Fish from Darts was their manager

  • dude i worck with the bass player..jd. jonathon durno..

    he is a top bloke.

  • Brilliant would love to have seen them live.

  • @geekpie100 Me too!

  • @markcruiser64 well I seen them live along with the Stray Cats,...AWESOME!!!!

  • Saw one of them live, even worked with him for five years without knowing who he was!

  • @rangkow Well I'd like to shake his hand. Such a happy, positive song and the OAPs look like they really enjoyed being in it.

  • @geekpie100 saw one of them , worked with him for five years and didnt even know who he was

  • @rangkow saw one of them , worked with him for five years and didnt even know who he was

  • @geekpie100

i saw them play at my college in autumn 1984.....they were great!

  • Great song and video!! Prob. one of my favorite videos from the 80s. Love Roman Holliday.:)

  • @samsuiza The remastered CD is worth the money. VERY clear. My oldest brother got me into them back then. I had their first LP and also had it on cassette too. Now on CD.

  • Brilliant live band and a band that achieved real success in the very real sense of the word. Saw them on TV many, many times and was knocked out by their album. Fun stuff!!

  • I had the mumps when this came out had to send ma mum into town to buy it seems like yesterday

  • Brain Bonhomme is a History professor at Youngstown State University. He has been there since 2002 and is still teaching. I've had the opportunity to have him for 2 of my history classes. What a true gentleman. Very knowledgeable about History and he teaches from the heart. I don't know how he is able to retain all of information. He never talked about being in a band. Some of us students know about him being in Roman Holliday. Great guy. Awesome professor.

  • I always thought Roman Holliday was what happened when a doo-wop group ran into the pit band that just played a production of "South Pacific," shot a speed-ball, and decided to jam.

I just loved these guys. When we first played stuff from this record on the radio, the phones just lit up with people wanting to know who it was. Same goes at the college bar I spun records at. Saturday night, the dance floored packed to their song, "Stand By,' and the kids didn't even know how to swing dance. Cheers

  • @hibob418 There is such a strong happy energy to their music. I am addicted to this kind of fun energy in music.

  • ぎゃースティーブ懐かしいー大好きだった

    何てhappyなんだ

  • @rutgernavarre Back when music was just fun. ;-)

  • Brian Bonhamme...the vocalist/guitarist for this group...is now a history professor at U.S. University. Dr. Bonhamme

  • anyone know where i can download this song for my mobile phone? free of course!

  • @andtastic1 Don't be so cheap. Buy the CD. The whole album is worth it. It's been re-mastered.

  • great song!..iv'e still got the 7" single somewhere

  • this band like the stray cats, coast to coast, the jets were all pretty big hitmakers in the early 1980s, it was all electro pop and new wave stuff, shakin stevens was the biggest selling artist of the decade

  • continued.... meant to say it wasnt all electro pop and new wave stuff...

same thing happened in the 70s... there were loads of hit makers inspired by late 1950s music...

i can see what you mean though

  • Sounds very un-eighties which is a very good thing indeed.

  • @davidgbarron To para- phrase Barbara Mandrels hit country song... " I was groovy when groovy wasn't cool" LOL.

  • @davidgbarron Not if you're into the 80's sound which clearly you aren't. Clearly just another musical luddite content to malign an entire decade for its progressive, experimental, forward thinking and highly influential contribution to musical history.

  • Saw them open for The Stray Cats in San Diego in (date censored!). Liked them so much I went out and bought their album. Still love the music! Long live the 80's!!!!

  • @LuckyTempest ;-) Long live fun music. :-)

  • @LuckyTempest

I used to dance around my bedroom to this

  • Awesome! Thanx for the upload!

  • @javierburboa ;-)

  • come on steve x

  • I have this cd along with Joboxers> Just Got Lucky.

So love this song, bringing back memories for me.

    Weren't 80's GREAT!!!

I wish they were here again.

  • I love fun music from the 50's - the 90's. Then hip hop, and grunge took over. So much for melody, harmony and fun.

  • @FreshAirlines1

It's interesting that you mention The Joboxers when speaking of Roman Holliday, because I loved both albums at the time and found their sounds a bit similar. I saw these guys on some show playing live back in the day and thought they were a lot of fun and then they just disappeared. But I must agree, what a cool time for music. I suppose we didn't realize just how good we had it then compared to today's excuse for Popular Music.

  • saw them at trent park poly great stuff

  • Geez Ifeel so old now. I remember this tune as well. Great music when the bands had some character to them. Excellent find.

  • I like how you put that "Character". True not much personality in artists and music now. Unless it is over the top Lady Gaga style.

  • steve lambert admit this is you x

  • OK, I finally got the "Cookin' On The Roof" CD. I have been waiting to get it for a couple years now. Great fidelity. I pulled it up in my audio editing program and the waveforms look clean.

  • joboxer's batchmates love them...:D

  • what memories!

  • Loved Roman Holiday back in the 80's. Had this cassette when I was about 15/16. Loved them!

  • Heck, I still DO have the cassette. Great fun music.

  • Great Memories!

Fantastic Band Live, & Used To Go & See Them A Lot.

    Still Sounding Good Today Too!

  • Crack'in Tune!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • ;-)

  • Anyone else thinking: Alan Brazil?

  • Iv'e only just realised what an ugly bunch of lads they were.

  • OMG this was the 80's has I remember it......apart from u being a New Romantic(which I was and dressed so) this music was a change to them and a brilliant up beat song u couldn't help either singing along or tapping ur feet........

  • this like a Gay Madness! less nuttyboys!! more Batty Boys!

  • im not sad to say -but i still love this tune warm feel good stuff FAB.......

  • I still listen to this music regularly. It makes me feel better when I am down.

  • There was a short-lived video show on Channel 9 in the early 1980's. It was called "Channel 9's Great Record Album Collection." It was the only place where I ever saw this video.

  • gay on steroids

  • Check out the Transit van.......a must in the early eighties.....cool as u like.

  • They do me.

  • ive found the lead singer hes called steve lambert he also sang with heartbeat uk jump to it and he added me as a friend on my space

  • Juts because they accept you as a "friend" on MySpace, doesn't mean they will actually communicate with you. Heck, I have Shania Twain, Elton John, Vince Gill, Martina Mcbride in mine. None of them communicate with me.

  • If this lack of communication bothers you, you should send them a message saying you've been listening quite a lot recently to Eminem's "Stan." It'll probably go right over Shania Twain's head when you mention that you're taking your pregnant wife out for a drive at the weekend if you hear nothing from her, but Elton might get off his fat arse and send you a message about how he appreciates your friendship and how he thinks life is great, etc. Let me know how you get on.

  • actually he did reply he sent me an email and said thank you for sending him a request, no need to be narky about it

  • Did you know Roman Holliday supported The Clash on one UK tour?? I was a huge fan of RH (and The Clash, as it happens) back in the day - first band I ever collected all the singles of on both 7" AND 12". Plus picture discs! I have the van-shaped pic disc for this track :-D

Sadly, the second RH album was TERRIBLE. Killed the band for me totally. Still love the debut album, though.

If you can find a vid of Samantha Fox on TOTP, Steve Lambert is in the backing band - both were on Jive Records.

  • If anything I think that Roman Holliday acted more like JoBoxers than they did Madness.

  • Wow OMG , I haven't heard or seen this since the late 80's. I Bought the 12" back in '83 bcuz I'm a hardcore Madness fan and RH looked and sounded a bit like the Nutty Boys,so they caught my attention for a while..

  • Madness? Nutty Boys? hmmm

  • Good old Roman Holiday. I see them @ Hitchin in the 80s when they had there number 1 hit with Don't try stop it. I still really like this song and I like the band.

Doe's anyone know if they are still going ?

  • Thought they were a typical shite boyband til i saw them live, they were awesome, one of the best gigs i been to, they could play and they loved what they were doing

  • Wow! my memories came rushing back to that period. So much fun in those days (same age as dudes in vid). That sense of freedom and optimism the video portrayed really did exist. The 80's totally RULED!!!!

  • Anybody know where I can get an MP3 of this one?

  • Just bought the album from AMazon

  • I have the link in the description area here.

  • Not sure where you're talking about. I looked at your page and couldn't find it.

  • see the video above? look just to the right of it

  • Hey Mark, I'm an idiot. I still don't know where to find it. Tom Dean

  • Some UK bands like this have that frenzied fast measured beat and I love it.

    It's like life, concentrated.

  • I used to know the drummer from this one hit wonder band, he ended up being a motorcycle courier for a company called Trips in Central London, said the management was fucked up that's why the band crashed, lol.

  • They could have been huge. This was a Top 20 hit in summer 1983.

  • Yeah, I remember it well.. such a catchy tune and funny vid :)

  • i like this song on the dance machine, super fast it has good beats

  • god this was one of the first singles i bought as a teen

  • Do you know what I'll never understand about Roman Holiday - one awesome, joyous song - a brilliant slice of the very best of the 80's and then NOTHING hit wise in the UK. What happened? Where are they now? If they are reading this just to let you know this song has brought me out of MANY a bad mood!

  • Their followup album to "Cookin On The Roof" was a departure from this style. They lost a lot of fans that loved this sound. I am not sure of their where-a-bouts now though.

  • Ahaa Heard This Song On A Dance Machine..!

  • feels good dont it

  • Thank you Markcruiser64!!!! Makes me smile smile smile!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • No Problem. I also have Motormania' by them. Check it out.

  • where on gods earth did you dig this up from.....haha great decade

  • Amazing what you can find if you look around hard enough.

  • i bet most if not all those old people are dead by now..

  • Yes but they live again in differant bodies!!!!

  • I'm one of those old people now, but this comment makes me laugh because it sounds like something I would have said (well maybe not out loud-we respected our elders in the old days!) but I can't help it when I hear my beloved 80's music. And I really never thought to look on YouTube for this long lost music. I'm just that old.

  • I was thinking that Iwas crazy, but I had the spelling wrong loved this band

  • did cyndi lauper steal the intro for "she bop"?

  • I don't know. May have to ask the writers about that.

  • it's very close - maybe it's ok to borrow major chords butnot diminished or 7ths.peace.paul.usa

  • Or it might be that if nobody knows, nobody sues.

  • lucky it wasn't a hit or cyndi didn't hear it...no usesueing a band unless they make money.lol.

  • True. They may not have found enough similarity in the 2 songs either

  • I loved this band, I saw them in Inverness Ice Rink in 1983. Woo Hoo:)

  • I am sure they put on a high energy concert. Lots of fun. I have never seen them live.

  • ...talk about memory lane, I'd forgotten about this little gem ;-)

  • don't try the stop the Retro 80's in 2008

  • Don't try to stop the retro 50's in 1983.

  • Luved this song. Know one can sit still when this plays. Bought my son a hat just like theirs

  • I was MADLY in love with Steve Lambert when I was younger...My pride and joy was this L.P and my Smash Hits with him on the cover in a bath of bubbles...

Hmmmmm..got me all gossebumps now :)

  • great days.

  • damn gonna have to blow dust off on the 'ole vinyl now

    gonna roll my jeans up!!!

  • I remember being in salou, spain when this song was a hit, early 80,s.

I had one of those sailor hats and dungarees, i got more shags that week than anyone, thanks to that hat and them dungarees.

    Happy days.

  • Great fun! but NO ONE can top The Stray Cats for original cool - Meow!!

  • So where is the current "fun" music hiding?

  • wow i loved this. so happy to find it! thanks!

  • yeah, i thinkk its safe to say the eldery people in this video are all since passed on. if not amazing. but since this was 1983 and they all looked like in their 80's then.. so yes, i think they are...

  • This was the first ever single i bought, i was 12 at the time!!! its cost me about 50pence at the time.....happy days

  • yeah, thanks for posting. where have all the years gone!

  • I loved this group back in the 80s. A local Station here in LA called KROQ used to play all their songs. I wish someone would post "zodiac cadillac"

  • Yes, I have it posted. check out to the right of the player window in the related videos.

  • I remember this song and it makes me feel my age. Loved it then, love it now - A song that makes you feel happy rather than the usual dirges around in 2007. Bring back fun music and TOTP from this era - men with mullets, women with permed hair, ra-ra skorts, lemon yellow leg warmers, etc...

  • Used to Work with the Drummer Simon at TC Coombs. fantastic Guy and a nutcase!!
