  • Thanks for the information. We are only in year one of the "peak" realization. Great ideas for the home! Will def keep them in mind. Why do you have to be tied to the grid at all? Aren't the solar panels enough? Thanks

  • @inca4charm I'm tied to the grid right now because my surplus produced gets sent to the grid and credited for when I need more in low light winter months. If the grid fails regularly then I'd get a battery back-up and have an option to detach myself from the grid as I wish...

  • Thank you for your generous and clear communication style.

  • You sure walk it like you talk it. That's rare. If folks do only a fraction of what you've done they'll be better off.

  • What pisses me off is the fact that the first car ever made was a electric car which got 40 miles to the charge, if we had taken that electric concept since day one instead of doing it when it's far too late, we could have maybe another 100 years left on our reserves, instead the elite decided for the profit aspect instead of the sustainable aspect, just like when they suppressed Tesla's clean n free energy with his coil, if we had used tesla idea we'd have another 25 to 50 years left to our oil

  • Great info, thanks so much for sharing this with us.

  • Excellent video series. Some great ideas here.

  • Great emergency supplies....

  • Wow, those are the perfect IRENE prep supplies.... I bet you barely had to do anything to prepare for IRENE up in CT.

  • I just finished watching all four parts.

    Well done!!!

  • Watched 1 trough 4. You have done a great job in reducing energy consumption and associated costs. There are ways to generate energy and reduce the costs even more, but they will require more changes around the house: plumbing and sewage system, installing methane burner in kitchen, switching to fluorescent and CFL light, vertical wind turbine in backyard...

  • Well looks good. You have brought your energy consumption down.

We are not as near peak oil as we are population growth that uses the food, energy helps produce. What you haven't shown us is your armaments to defend your selves against the mobs that will find your door step if you have light and food.

Of course I belive we have enough oil in Alaska and centeral US to last 5 to 25 more years and enough coal and nateral gas to last 100 years at present population. May I be right and good luck.

  • A solar cooker whether bought (I recommend these, they're fordable and light good for emergency situations) or made (from scavenged, reused, and recycled materials preferably) would be awesome for cooking in an emergency situation.

I do however love the book and film recommendations at the end of the video! I'll be sure to check them out as I haven't seen some of them and I've definitely never heard of the fiction novel! It sounds amazing!

  • I just finished watching your series 'Preparing For Peak Oil' and i would like to say congratulations on what you have achieved.

I myself have only just started researching peak oil. I have 3 of the books you mentioned coming in the mail, including The Long Emergency.

I am only 19 and haven't stopped pondering the whole concept of a world without oil since i came across peak oil theory last week. I don't know what i am going to do or how to even start planning for what looks like a grim future

  • @samage1337 It's not about the consumers or giving up our comfort: it's about new laws and courageous politicians who will work for us! and defy the powerful lobbies who want everything to go as it is and make a huge profit in the process!

  • With some investment I would: get bi-directional electricity generating water-turbines, windmill and some solar-panels; i would also drive a motorcycle or hybrid car and have a server which doesnt consume as much as my current (data = knowledge), next to a gaming laptop (I like games), I can't do any powersaving when it comes to bandpractice (that just uses alot of power). hot water can come from black waterreserve-tanks on the roof. BTW: what did you do for earth-hour? I shut down everything!

  • thanks so much you are my new hero.

  • Good work preparing for energy decline. Your actions in your home and with your family are a real model for folks. Do you have a list of items in your emergency kit?

Thanks also for letting people know about our videos at peakmoment -- about people creating locally reliant lives for these challenging times, just as you are.

  • My only concern for you would be the pellet stove. Why not a wood burning stove like a blaze king, with combustion chambers? If you loose power, do you have enough solar to keep the pellets pouring?

  • locking gas cap to stop people taking your gas and duct tape and rip ties to make sure they dont try to do it again

  • I'm digging all the ideas seeing them in practical use by a normal guy. If you don't mind me asking, how much did all of this stuff cost when you got set up? Solar panels, dryer thing, 13 tons of heat pellets, etc. On a similar note, what do you do for a job? I don't mean it the wrong way, but it seems it takes green to go green...

  • All this is great and very commendable, however if the shit really hits the fan, someone just might come to your home with a 12 gauge, and very politely ask you to share, and then again...

  • My wife would never go for any of this. That's why I dumped her and got a dawg.

  • I am so into this...this is the way to go even if peak oil never comes. you are an inspiration. thank you

  • you have some pretty good videos, i agree with most of it, and i agree its nice to be self reliant, if the price of gas goes up a great amount its only going to create the more cost effective battery car the reason that we havent had a need for a battery car thus far is the cheapness of gas, with solar power to charge the battery or off the grid which with never run out i think everything with be ok, could turn tough but its not the end of the world by any means

  • Thanks for these. SPQ

  • Ok, that's a lot of books. Great video series, thanks!

  • your videos are simply great... you are pretty good prepared, the things you lack are some self help books, knowledge to defend yourself ( I do not know if you know hand to hand combat), a sword+ guns and ammunition... If people loose everything, they loose it, as the economy collapses, criminality will skyrock, as the state collapses, law and order will collapse as well. Take care, thanks for the books, thanks for the video and keep up the fight for survival ;)

  • @HaywoodUdume I meant to say I use 200 bags or 4 tons per year, about $1,100....not 8 tons per year, that would be crazy...

  • When running the pellet stove, how long does a bag last? We have been thinking of buying one - but everyone at the stores are so vague on how long they will burn on one bag of pellets. Also - Was your previous heat gas or electric?

  • @dieselplow my previous heat was all electric....one bag lasts on average about one day. I'll use 180 - 200 bags over about 180 days... 1.5 bags if zero degrees out and less than one bag in early november and mid march....

  • 80% savings with led light fixtures, and the directional white light is better than incandesant bulbs

  • Excellent Videos. I really enjoyed my watch, and thank you for your time making them.

  • Your videos are very informative as we are becoming more self sufficient. Wind power is also very populer and flowing water such as rivers and streams. Also growing our own vegetables and fruit. All the best to you and your family!

  • Great vids. I just subscribed. Excellent job about getting ready. Looking forward to more vids

  • Hey I really enjoyed your videos!

You could survive a zombie apocalypse...lol

One question...have you considered wind power? Im looking up some residential solutions. There's one called the helix and another called windspire.

Thanks for the information and I am looking forward for more videos!

  • @toomasio my lot is too small for any wind plus the tree line is too tall, zoning wouldn't allow a vertical axis turbine on the roof because it would raise the roof height...

  • @MrEnergyCzar

Oh right okay yeah I guess the trees would block a lot of that wind.

Hopefully Solar will keep getting more and more efficient/low cost.

  • @MrEnergyCzar I've seen some small wind turbines that can be mounted on the roof of your home, but i'm sure you've looked into that

  • I've watched the 4 episodes and expected to see the batteries pack. Don't you have one ? Most of your 5,4 Kw is going to waste? It's appalling... Sorrry for my english.

  • @dvdrwsor nothing is going to waste....I net meter with the power company and they credit me for any surplus I make so that I can cover my home's usage through the winter....I should have explained this better in the video, you are not the only one to ask where the battery bank is....

  • A food series of videos. Even if peak oil & energy wasn't an issue, U should how families can keep more of the money they earn in their pockets & be prepare to ride most any disaster that might occur. I grin as I read to the right videos about peak oil is a hoax.

  • @MrEnergyCzar Very true on the bike scene where I am there is little room to walk or bike and bicyclists are killed all the time. We have texting drivers kids that will prank you while driving a bike it is just a bad scene. Some mass transit are allowing bikes to be used on a bus but that space is 3 max not practical your best bet on a long commute is have 2 bikes one for home the other nearer your work.

  • @cdltpx

Its the same where I live, streets are only built for autos everywhere.

  • You are by far the most consolidated that I have seen. I have witnessed a man online that has a hydrogen production integrated into his system but he is not practical for mass production since his system cost min $500K. Have you aver looked into domes and how they can save start up cost of a WW (watt weenie) How I wish I could talk to you i see your videos are 3 weeks old that is fresh in the scheem of things. What a reading list I have a lot of work to do. ME and HP have been staples at library

  • @hitssquad None of us or the Earth for that matter will be here in what did you say, 32 billion years? The Sun is going to start dying in about 10 billion years and when it does it will expand into a red giant which will engulf the earth.

  • @hitssquad I'd like to know where these "abiotic" oil fields are located? Sometimes letting an oil field rest will allow oil to seep back to the well through the rock. Production is never ever close to original production with these demothballed oil fields. Have you read Matt Simmons, Richard Heinberg, Chalmers Johnson, Jeff Rubin or James Kunstler?

  • I think people need to do more of what MrEnergyCzar is doing regardless because it reduces your future costs and helps your family navigate difficult times should they arise...

  • @hitssquad 80 million new people are added to the planet every year; They all require energy to survive and even more if they are americans Capital markets also require enegy to keep growing. So, if all this available energy is present why don't the creative people make it appear? I'm convinced the economy would benefit from 20 dollar barrel oil, don't you? People can't put more oil, coal or nat gas in the ground and what is left is harder to get out and will remain that way forever.

  • @hitssquad

Hi, the reality of the matter is there have been numerous quantitative studies done by researchers to determine the validity of peak oil. The findings are based on measurable data, not someones opinion on what they think or feel might be in the ground. Considering we live on a finite planet it is not inconceivable to assume that we would one day hit an energy ceiling.

  • i noticed one thing, americans as we (the rest of the world) r nothing like their leaders, bush being the most poignant, come on my brovs n sisters in usa, that clown is ur alpha male, lol, sorry, it had to be said, but normal guys n gals there (usa) r really decent ppl, this guy proves it, before u shoot me for that piece of bread in my hand, think of this, i will share my bread with u and together we can help each other survive, the world is the same, u dont need to have wars to get past this

  • Give me Your Bread .. and I will dip it in my Rich gravy,

How much did all that stuff cost? ALso a real Bike will run any distance.. No batt rqd. see also Rickshaws etc for Hauling goods.

  • ... left? through, food output depletion, toxic vaccines, wars, genocide by: race, colour or religion, dumping toxic or radioactive waste in the 3rd world, remember 1 thing, someone wrote, they came for the socialists, i said nothing, as im not a socialist, they came for the blacks and i said nothing because im not black, they came for the starving rioters demanding food, and i said nothing because im not starving, today they are coming for me, but there is no one left to say nothing for me !

  • can anyone tell me when collapse the movie come to uk? the bastards here govt etc r blocking all the stuff u can help prepare for peak oil, they tax stuff so hard, u cant afford to do jack, if not they just stop companies importing stuff in, including ideas, if they had the chance to, to all my fellow humans on this rock, lets survive the depopulation attempts from the elite, they have said (on record) 1 billion humans is ideal,as the planet cant take anymore, what about the 5billion then?

  • cant wait for #5 of 4, LOL

maybe you can do a 5 or 10 min video on each of the most pivital books you highlited in this video. and i think some extra power like from a wind gen like from "Missouri wind and solar" coupled with a battery bank as a backup for rainy days and to help charge your electric cars as sean in video #5 or 6,( hopefully)

  • Love the Nuke tablets. Can you imagine if there was a nuclear incident and you had to go out in the radiation to get the potassium iodine tablets because you didn't have them ahead of time.

  • You mainly talk about electricity. In my country electricity is powered largely by coal, which we have heaps of. Whilst this is not good for the climate, it has little to do with oil. The products in your house that are made from petroleum do, but the biggest thing is transport. You only talk about riding a bike once, and that should be the main focus!

  • Hi, I just finished watching all four of your video clips. I can't believe how many bases you covered in such a short time. Your tips seem well thought out and worth while. you must have put a lot of time in all the changes you made. Keep up the great work
