It's not because of WD, but because of the default file system. It's sething you can change formatting the drive.

damn, this shows how price changes dramatically, a year ago this costed 179euros (roughly $240), yesterday i bought an internal WD 320GB 2.5" at $80 for my PS3

WD provides a backup software, but I don't really know how it works. Check WD's website.

You can always drag&drop file into it, of course.

If you have a Mac with Leopard, I suggest you to use Time Machine to backup your system.
